So hyped.
JD likely, and starring, I’d imagine.
Juhann? Anyone know if we’ll see him. I’m a fan.
Would hope to see Madar again too, but JD and Juhann are the ones I can see being in discussion for 15th spot/2way conversations sooner rather than later (I know Begarin just signed somewhere new in Europe).

I have little doubt that Champagnie will be on the team too. Kabengele I'd say is a 50/50 for being on the team. We might just part ways with him and wish him the best of luck, instead of stringing him along if we know he's not gonna make the team next year (and he's too old to be on a 2-way again).
Whoever we pick at 35 will be on the team.
And since there's now THREE 2-ways slots instead of 2, I'm assuming sign 2 (or maybe even 3) UDFA guys. Although this year's crop of UDFA probably won't be as deep as last year, since LOTS of guys withdrew from the draft this year.
Could be a really fun team if we have all these guys there..
-JD
-Begarin
-Yam
-Kabengele
-Champagnie
-Pick 35
-UDFA 1
-UDFA 2

I'd like to see Davison move up the PG-chain, onto the Regular Roster. Juhann should at least be a Two-Way.
I mean, we have 3 x Two-Ways slots now. And all 3 should be Vacant?
If Madar doesn't get on now, then doubtful that he every does.

JD is probably as exciting a late second rounder as you could ever hope for. I don’t know if he pans out but he’s leaps and bounds better than some of the late pick guards Danny was bringing in.
Had a chance to see him a few times in Maine.. he’s exciting. Can handle the PNR pretty well. Funky jumper last year but reasons to be hopeful. Great down hill speed.. and those hops. My god that bounce. Maybe not quite Morant but not worlds off.

JD is the future "real" PG that the C's seek. Compare his age and G-League stats to those of Scoot, who grew up in a coaching family with a professional gym in a major metropolitan area. IMO they are about even with their jumper and JD is a more advanced and gifted distributor. Give him 20 minutes a game next season and suddenly Rob, if he's still here, will have 2 PGs willing and able to feed him.

Yup. These are their numbers this past season, playing in the same league.

To be fair, JD is a year older than Scoot. But still, JD could end up being *really* good.

Get as many UFDAs you can
Release some so MIA could grab and turn into real players
It is a shame we are exited for summer league in which I guess one player can make the roster and not get too many minutes next year the way our roster is built
BTW, if Madar plays I think we will be surprised by the progress he made. I guess he will be dealt before summer league for future 2nd or cash so we can develop JD

Not quite sure what Begarin plans are for this summer but he's already in the US and just played a couple games with the French select team.
He has an outside shot at making France's World Cup roster* and that will probably impact whether he'll play summer league. It's hard to see him do both. The list comes out on June 28th so we'll know more then.
* He's been making the last few rosters fairly consistently but those didn't include NBA players that should push him out of the group. There's a couple things that might play in his favor. His head coach in his new club is a lead assistant coach on the France team so will probably advocate for him. There's also not a ton of french wings in the NBA right now and they are getting up there in age (Batum, Fournier...) and could put emphasis on getting some rest this summer to get ready for the Paris games next summer.

JD also had just one year of college after playing at this seriously disadvantaged high school of 350 students:
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/alabama/districts/lowndes-county/calhoun-high-school-236Compare that with Scoot, who's been training with Steph's trainers, whose parents have had a professional gym the last 5 years, etc.
You're right, Scoot will be 20 on Feb 3 and JD will be 21 on Oct 3, but given how JD is relatively playing catch-up and has the speed, vision, feel and passing for the game already, I'm just as happy with him as with Scoot, who will probably go #2 or #3 this week.

If JD becomes a star, or even just a starter, I vote his nickname be The Mane Attraction in reference to his glorious hair (and the pronunciation reference to his time in Maine works as well).

A turnover-prone 31-percent Three-Point Shooter is not anyone you want near a Mazzulla-led offense.
That is Bad Juju in the making. Yommy Baby Madar has a much better chance of contributing in Coach Joe's
lineup, in the role of a taller Pritchard type, slightly worse defensively, but with better playmaking skills.

That's not super fair to JD.. I like him a lot. Really as high upside as you could hope for for a pick in the 50s but there's not really a comparison between JD and Scoot other than they jump high, are similar ages and both jump high.
JD is a really exciting prospect to have, but he's pretty small (I've seen him around Portland.. he's kinda tiny.) Also has a tight, but really basic handle and he's not super strong or long. Scoot's kind of a monster. Good amount bigger and stronger and is really a pitbull. Better handle.. Not far off on the jump shot and hops but it's not fair to JD to compare the two.

Sorry, cant really get hyped on JD. Fast pgs seem to fair well in the G league where the level of defense is well below, the real question is how well his outside shot developes and how he sees the court. Higher on JB with his potential to play multiple positions. I think they bring in a few undrafted though as they seemed to have worked out a ton of guys not highly ranked and theyll have plenty of roster spots open.

JD led the SL in assists last year, right?
His first game there sold me. I’m in on this kid!
Looks fine on an NBA court in very limited time too.
Of course, I also love Begarin, so I may just be wearing green glasses, but what’re you gonna do about it, Poindexter?*
*this is how I’ll be signing off all my posts now, sorry if you don’t like it. Poindexter.

I admit it I have an irrational fandom of summer league. Going to start wanting the Celtics to draft TJD just so we can see him throw down tons of crazy dunks in summer league.

Hey, give Mr. Davison his due. I think he could have set an NBA Combine record. He gained a full two inches (from 6'0.5" to 6'2.5") just by putting his shoes on!
Yes, his outside shot is apparently still developing, but again, he had lesser coaching than so many kids from pro basketball or pro sports families and is still young. And I think he both sees the court well already and he has the purest PG mentality of anyone on the C's currently. Being just okay from outside may help him keep that mindset. He's got decent length for his height (with a 6'6.5" wingspan) and has always had decent bulk, though it seems as if his arms especially got bigger through this past year.
I'd actually love to see Brad get a bit edgy for Brad and put both Davison and Madar on the roster (PP and either Brogdon or Smart would have to go) this year--and then develop them both with some good, competitive playing time. Invest in bigger, tougher and more experienced size up front for a more balanced roster all around. I want Begarin over here on a two-way as well.

Okay NOW I’ll throw in an entirely tongue-in-cheek “fire BRAD”
Davison and #35 it is.
