In a look at Boston’s projected starting lineup, ESPN’s Zach Lowe said he expects Al Horford to be in the middle alongside Tatum and Porzingis, with Robert Williams coming off the bench.

Yeah lowe has said that all summer but he doesn’t know. Nobody really does. Most beat guys expect rob but it genuinely seems no one actually has a good grasp on it.
For most guys they want/expect rob but lowe is a zinger sceptic who doesn’t think they can play together very well hence him nominating Horford as his pick

I like lowe a lot but he has missed a lot, just like anyone else. Was low on Derrick white and called a clippers bucks finals for this last season during his preseason previews; just as examples

Honestly, I'm expecting Horford to start with Porzingis but it really doesn't matter. All three of them will play if healthy.

I feel like one factor is, which one fits better with Porzingis? Perhaps Mazzulla and the staff is waiting till training camp/preseason to see the answer to that question. Plus, the staff can see how healthy and in shape everyone is.

But I think Rob is probably a better fit with KP offensively. KP and Al both bigs who can shoot, Rob offers more of a different dynamic with the rim running and lob catching - and we saw KP have some good success offensively playing alongside Daniel Gafford - throwing lobs to Gafford, playing the high-low game with him, they would feed each other for buckets.

And I think Rob + KP is probably a better fit defensively, since Al is better than Rob at switching out on the perimeter and defending smaller/quicker guys out there. That might not be the case quite as much now with Al another year older. But I think for the sake of Rob's knees, we'd rather try and keep him close to the basket defensively as much as possible and not having to run around, sliding his feet and trying to stay with quick guys out on the perimeter as much - one guy crosses him him, his knee might buckle and it's curtains.

Meanwhile, we also want to protect KP's foot and not have him chasing guys around out on the perimeter as much - which might mean we try to stagger Rob and KP's mins as much as possible. Which means lots of mins for Al at the 4..

But yeah, I also agree that all 3 will play a lot. And it kind of doesn't matter since I think either way, Rob and Al will both probably be roughly at about the same amount of MPG (25-30 range).

Lastly, Porzingis is good at not only shooting 3's but also posting up (low post and mid post). He'll likely have more room to operate in the post if the other 4 guys are out on the perimeter - and if the other big we have out there is a shooter (Al, not Rob) who defenses need to respect so they need to extend their defense on that player, giving KP more room to operate in the post.

Oh I know - it's going to be Al. Been saying so all summer.

Offensive plan is shooting threes

SO I am sure its Al.

Also why Timelord has been working on 3pt shooting.

But at this point ragarding 3pta per game
Tatum - 9.3
Brown - 7.3
Horford - 5.2
KP - 5.5
White - 4.2
Brogdon - 4.4
Pritchard - 3.2
Hauser - 4.2
Brissett - 2.4

Closing in on the 50 per game target Joe has "apparently" set.

Look at the bright side. Smart shot the same amount of 3's as Porzingis, but at a *much* worse percentage.

What’s one team to hope has a let down season providing the Celtics with an opportunity for an attractive mid season trade? — Florida Man

That’s a fascinating exercise to consider. I think when you look at a potential closing lineup for the Celtics, there are question marks about who should be the fifth guy in that group along with White, Tatum, Brown and presumably Porzingis. Will this team go double bigs with Horford or Rob Williams in those big moments? Stay smaller with Malcolm Brogdon? It’s possible neither of those potential answers on Boston’s current roster are perfect solutions for a team with title aspirations so finding other elite in that closing lineup would be an aspiration if those options fall through.

When it comes to picking a team to fill that void, I think there are a few middle-of-the-road squads that could try to blow it up this year if things don’t start well. Toronto (OG Anunoby?) would have a lot of intriguing pieces. The same goes for teams like the Bulls, Nets, or any middling Western Conference team. A lot of these teams are in win-now mode but that could change in a hurry and the Celtics are positioned to be players in trade talks with a host of draft assets along with some movable contracts. Who exactly is the right target for the Celtics will largely depend on how this new-look roster looks together, especially during crunch time moments.

My prediction:

Dame to Blazers trade happens. Then, to fill empty roster spots, Miami signs either Rivers or Lamar Stevens. The other one signs with Boston. I'd prefer that we get Lamar, but I'll be happy with Rivers too.

I just hope that Miami really gets cleaned out with the trade. Hope they have to give up both Herro AND Martin. The guy who averaged 20 PPG, and the guy who killed us and played like an all-star in the ECF a few months ago.

Then, between Robinson, Lowry, Jacquez and Jovic, I hope at least 2 of them are moved in the trade. I hope Miami keeps Lowry in the deal - he doesn't scare me anymore - he'll be 38 during the 2024 playoffs - I'm sure he's got pretty much nothing left at this point. Jovoc and Jaquez at least have some upside. And Robinson really stretches the floor - just the threat of his shooting ability and the way he runs around off-ball constantly, really draws a lot of defensive attention, which creates extra room for Butler and their other guys to get quality looks.

So please trade Herro, Martin and Robinson. Keep Lowry in Miami. Do that and I'm happy..

The more time he spends on NBA Today with Perk and those other knuckleheads the more Lowe has fallen off imo. He just says stuff to fill space on the show and hear himself talk. Then when one of them makes something up and says it, it becomes a narrative that they all start saying.
