NBA Contract Guarantees To Watch

January 7 isn’t a well-known date on the NBA calendar, but it should be. Many know that on January 10, all NBA contracts become fully guaranteed. What isn’t as well-known is that in order for a team to not have a fully guaranteed deal land on their books for the rest of the season, they have to make a decision by January 7.

Teams must waive players on partial/non-guaranteed deals by January 7 in order for them to clear waivers before January 10. (The waiver period is 48 hours). Thus, while January 10 is the technical date that all contracts become fully guaranteed, January 7 is the functional deadline.

I’m waving Svi and converting Queta.
Depending if there are other moves I consider converting Davison…like really only if PP get traded and we need guard depth though for the playoffs and haven’t filled the need another way.

I am curious why people want to Waive Svi
He seems like a good 2nd Ballhandler, and a Backup-type to Hauser, as far as shooting.

For me he seems like the least effective of our bench guys, I’d like convert Queta and then wave Svi so we have a roster spot open to sign a waved player. I think we can do better than Svi.

Put me down in the convert Queta camp.

As far as Kornet (Fully Unguaranteed) and Myhailiuk (50% guaranteed), well, leave that to the Celtic brain trust. It would open up another roster spot if they convert Queta. Probably depends on who they feel they might get via buyout vs. possible trade.

Wow. A lot of people voting for Queta to be Converted.
No doubt, he does show a lot of promise, and actual ability.

Queta, they really need to just go ahead and convert. Not much more to see.
Kornet is good. But, he's more expendable, as Queta comes up.

Svi Mykhailiuk seems like a bigger version of PP? He's a Wing that can be a 2nd Ballhandler.
Not sure how he plays on Defense, though?

When I hit the button, I hit waive Svi and convert Queta. I'll stick with converting Queta. His play and Kornet's resurgence makes it at least possibility to just stay with their big rotation throughout the playoffs. It also allows for sending one of them out (Queta?) In a Nick Richards type trade.
As I was thinking about everyone else it may be time to weed out one of Stevens, Brissett and Banton. I understand they have different skillsets but it might be time to make a decision.
The most definitive to me is Queta. Waiving or signing people may be more tied into trades and buyouts.

How good is Nick Richards? Is he better than Queta or Kornet?
Svi hasn't impressed but honestly the 15th man doesn't add anything to an NBA team except as a developmental slot. It's not like baseball where every roster spot is tremendously valuable for their present value.

Been calling for the team to covert Queta for some time. I think there is plenty of time for Kornet and Queta depending on which skill is needed from which player to support Porzingis and Horford. Queta will grow by spending more time with Horford, and Kornet will learn more spending time with Porzingis. For those saying, "we don't need four big men, most teams don't carry four big men", most teams don't have a 37-year-old backup big, that we need to watch the minutes of.

I would choose to waive Svi Mykhailiuk. He has not shown what I thought he would when we signed him. He is only shooting 19% from three and considering that is supposed to be his strength, we should be able to find better with a small trade or picking up a waived player, on a 10 day until we find someone.

I’m going to support him but I’m waiving svi and hell lamar barely gets garbage minutes I’m not sure they wouldn’t waive him before svi. Convert Queta later but in time to be in the playoffs and when all moves are exhausted.

I wish Austin Rivers was okay with shutting his mouth and sitting like a good soldier because I’d take him over svi! Think Brad isn’t fond of the talking he did about month or so ago, he said the opposite of what Brad has built for this team.

Yeah. You dont just throw away size with shooting in this league.

We're not privy to the practice sessions, so I can't be sure but I find more value in having a Stevens type in practices (to go against JB/JT/KP) than Svi in actual games.

I agree and it confuses me why he doesn’t get more minutes before others. Also, I’m not saying i would do it, i definitely wouldn’t, I’m just saying based off of pecking order, Lamar seems to be the 14th man.

I don't know either. He has more NBA experience on a decent team coming from the Cavs too. Maybe he overlaps too much with what Brissett does while Svi's profile/skill set combo of ballhandling/shooting/size is unique (his shooting hasn't translated though).

He can do other things that excite me on videos i watched when he signed but he only does it once in a blue moon because as soon as he touches it he tosses it up. Why won’t he do those other things and take it to the rack, get an easy one then bomb away from three?

Thinking about it, he probably doesn’t do other things because he’s always in with Pritchard and they want him to run the offense. Banton too but to a lesser extent.

+1. They've got an open roster spot for a bought-out player. No need to waive anyone. And if you don't convert Queta you will lose him.
