Good riddance.
I've wished Belichick's reputation ill since early November, 2016.

It was time. Pats need to do a multi year rebuild and he's not the guy to lead that at this stage of his career. He played a part in the fall off the last few year with some (mostly) bad personnel moves but it was also unfair the expectation the Krafts/fans had that the gravy train would never stop. They went 20 years dominating the whole NFL and expecting that to never stop was unrealistic.

Belichick will go elsewhere and beat their brains out for the next 5 years. Meanwhile, the Patriots under pinchpenny Kraft and with a lesser coach will not see the playoffs in my lifetime.

It was time to move on. Definitely the right move. This team was trending in the wrong direction fast. Thanks for everything Bill.

Yep. It was definitely time. Plus he badly wants to pass Shula who disrespected him. So going somewhere with a much better roster will help with that. Hopefully he learned his lesson with how he mishandled the Offensive coaching staff and roster.
I won't miss his BS press conferences or crappy attitude though. And sadly he botched things so badly that you don't really want him to return to the organization after he retires.

On one hand, he was the best in existence through 2019, then he went into a franchise altering mode with how he mishandled Brady's final year, and the receiver situation. Brady's 7th should have been with us (and maybe 8th). It hasn't been fun since then, but he's still a legend.

He's a below-0.500 coach in his non-Brady career. Brady delivered, he got the credit. Good riddance!

He coached Brady for 20 years and Brady was NOT the same player for all 20 of them. Brady had 3 super bowl rings before he ever made an all pro team. Belichick proved he could win without an elite QB, he'll just never get the credit for it because that non-elite QB he won with was still named Tom Brady. The Brady who beat the Rams in 2019 was a very different level of player from the guy who beat the Rams in 2001.
And on the team-building side, he's undoubtedly been awful in the past few years. No way around it. But this narrative has been drawn that he always had lousy rosters and Brady covered for them. In addition to my point above about how Brady wasn't THAT guy for the early part of their time together, it's not true. He built 2 decades worth of STACKED teams. He's as legendary a GM/roster builder as he is a coach. The well clearly ran dry at the end and now it's a big project to rebuild it, but team building is hard. Scouting is hard. Drafting in the NFL is hard. No one can realistically be expected to go 24 years straight without pitfalls and he was elite at it for the majority of that time.
There's just been so much unfair characterization of his whole career based on the last few years and the circumstances around it with the whole Brady thing. He's a legend in both roles and we should be grateful we got to witness it on our home team.

I quit following football a long, long time ago - but not only above, he took a franchise that was synonymous with being the definition of absolute crap and did the biggest 180 possible. I think people tend to forget what a trash franchise the patriots were.

While I agree that things have strayed too far in the "it was all Brady" debate. His draft picks have been an issue since
2013.
https://www.boston.com/sports/new-england-patriots/2023/04/25/bill-belichick-patriots-first-round-draft-picks/Bill most certainly benefitted from people wanting to play with Brady more than wanting to play for Bill. And yeah, him wanting to get rid of Brady in favor of Jimmy G didn't do him any favors in fans eyes. It also didn't help the team by putting so much money into a backup quarterback at the end of Jimmy's tenure.

And they were the Sad Sacks of New England sports. 4th Pro team in interest, possessed and owned by some of the worst: Billy and Chuck Sullivan always reminded me of pathetic Grifters, lacking the money to play with the other owners. Victor Kiam was strictly a marketeer, although I like his electric razor.
Kraft eventually came along and became their Best Owner and Brady their best player and Bill the best coach in the league
and they became New England's favorite sports team.
I put this blame somewhat on Paul Gaston, Pitino, ML Carr... the Celtics could have taken over the manifold of sports leader, but these were the Dark Ages of the nBA for us...

Agree heavily on this, but I can't bring myself to +1 because I feel like Brady was an elite QB from day 1, even if it took the rest of the world a few years to realize it.
So, I disagree that Belichik proved he could win a ring without an elite QB. And tbh I think that was part of the problem in recent seasons, I think Bill & other members of the coaching staff really wanted to show that they could win without Brady. Combined with older age and a shrinking window and maybe a tired or jaded perspective, I think it prevented Bill & co from taking more of an objective, bigger picture perspective.
Love the Mayo hire. I think, at least. I'm only so familiar with him.

He has the honor of probably being the greatest NFL coach and the worst WR drafting GM in history.

LOL, I wonder what Kraft is paying Mayo as opposed to the league average for head coaches.
On another front, who will the new General Manager be?
