I've tapped out on the Red Sox. It's purely business to the Fenway Sports Group. Not interested in being milked for my money without getting appropriate returns back. They're ready to turn their sights on the next franchise they can acquire as opposed to trying to invest in the ones they already have and that's just going to lead to disappointment for Red Sox fans in a league where you have to consistently spend to be consistently good. They've got too many toys and not enough money to go around. They're cheap when it comes to Liverpool and they're cheap when it comes to the Sox and yet they're still looking to add more to the portfolio, not the other way around.
I can't think of any fan groups that have been successful, but wish it were possible to push them out, like how Man United fans tried to do with the Glazer family. They don't deserve to own such a valuable and historic franchise with how unwilling they've been to spend the money the fans pour into them. Their mismanagement is worthy of a boycott.
I'm sure I'll get swept back up in it the next time they have a team that warrants it, but it's only a matter of time until they will dip back down into the depths thanks to this ownership group's unwillingness to pay players in their pursuit of profits. I wish nothing but the worst for John Henry and co.
Makes me very wary of the sale of the C's. We need a Ballmer-esque patron who only has eyes for the C's and is willing to spend what it takes. Unfortunately those are few and far between, much more likely we get a FSG or equivalent, but alas I continue to pray to the basketball gods for our saving grace.

As an MLB FO, you do everything you can — even if it takes years of patience and numerous transactions — to GET guys like that. And they just . . . gave him away. Malpractice and a slap in the face to the fans.
Equivalent to the Cs trading Tatum for a quarter in the dollar because of the double apron.

Maybe we still could have kept him anyways, but I always felt damage was done when they took him to arbitration in 2018 in an attempt to save $1-2m. Was embarrassing. He clearly had outperformed his rookie contract, just pay up.

Yep. Mismanaged all the way.
Look, those arbitrations are always rough because the team is always crapping on the player. But it's one thing when it's some middle reliever -- and another thing altogether when it's the face of your franchise.

Re: New England Sports Thread
any extant Pats fans?
If so, do you
a) fire Mayo if you can hire Vrabel
b) draft Hunter if he's there, or McMillan, or someone else? (Graham/Carter/Campbell/Banks)
me:
a) yes, tomorrow
b) idk that's why I'm hoping for an opinion or two. Based on measurables I like McMillan, but I don't know if I have the stomach for another bust at WR

I trust Mayo. I like Mayo. Scrutinizing him based on a single rebuilding season seems stupid, especially where he acquired existing issues.
Where is this idea coming from? Some random journalist? We could have hired Vrabel a year ago but we hired Mayo. Vrabel is currently a consultant for the Browns and can have a coordinator position if he wants.
Not too familiar with draft prospects off the top of my head, but will take a quick glance to address names mentioned.
It's cool that Hunter plays both sides of the ball, but does he truly stand to excel on either? He might, idk.
McMillan has been putting up some big numbers on a not so great team for two straight seasons. Granted last year's UA team wasn't so bad, guy accounted for 35% of his team's passing (receiving) yards at 20 y/o. This season he has accounted for more than 40% of his team's passing yards. I'd go McMillan over Hunter, I guess.
Of other names, Abdul Carter looks pretty good? But Will Campbell plays OL and we need that more.
