Front office has a lot to do with it.

Under Red, Danny and now Brad, the Celtics have been consistently good, except for the first few years it took each of Red and Danny to get rolling.

Inbetween they really were not, even when they lucked into HoFers (Billups, Pierce) with a couple of draft picks.

I think it's front office and ownership.

Since the Celtics were sold to Wyc Grousbeck and his other partners, back in 2003, the Celtics have been consistent in trying to win another championship.

The 1990s was the only decade that the Celtics front office was really bad.

They didn't want to rebuild.

Wanted to keep making the playoffs even when Bird was gone.

Signing players like Xavier McDaniel and Dominique Wilkins only prolonged the mediocrity of the franchise.

But that changed when Wyc and the new owners took over.

Drafting stars and making good trades to build around them has been the key to championship teams and those that are knocking on the door.
I guess that means front office…not really a secret though.

After winning 60 games in his first year coaching in Washington (1947), but losing in the playoffs,
Red Auerbach said that he learned that the Team with the Best 10 Man Lineup will win the Regular Season,
but the Team with the Best 8 Man Lineup will win the Playoffs.

Well, all of the Championship Teams, everyone, was great at rebounding. Had lots of guys who had good hands, good position, and fought like Pritch does for a ball in a crowd and could come away with it.

So a common trait was great rebounding as a team, and some great individual rebounders (what this team lacks). This team is more gang rebound oriented than the rest. Tatum is the Best Rebounder on the Team, but he's also the Best Player.
