Oh snap that guy looked like a decent flier to me. Surprised he came here with just that contract, figured he might be a two way guy.

He reminds me of the guy drafted in second round after Brown ……… Abdel Nader.

He still could end up on a 2-way.
A lot of UDFA guys don't get to just sign a 2-way immediately after the draft (like Hauser did).
Often they start out on exhibit 10 or just a summer league deal before eventually signing a 2-way..
Seems like they want to see how Enaruna looks in summer league..make him earn his 2-way contract there..

I would expect the Celtics to carry 15 players this year because of KP's injury and all the young players (Scheierman, Springer, Walsh,Queta). No real reason to keep a spot open unless they just want to save a few dollars.
I expect one of Tillman/Kornet and two vet min guys.

Run it back with Belo replacing Svi.

1 tatum
2 brown
3 KP
4 jrue
5 white
6 al
7 hauser
8 pritchard
9 springer
10 walsh
11 scheierman
2-ways:
1 Watson
2 ?
3 ?
These 11 are locked in..4 remaining spots..I say you resign Tillman and Kornet and exercise Queta's option..it's obviously even more important to bring them back with KP out for awhile
That makes 14 guys. For the last roster spot, you either leave it open, or have some guys compete for it in training camp..or sign some veteran to a minimum contract..maybe bring back Brissett but I think he's probably gone..and we don't need him as much with Walsh and Watson.

Just listing everyone at their natural positions...
Holiday / Pritchard
White / Springer
Brown / Hauser / Scheierman / Walsh
Tatum.............................................. Watson (2-way)
Porzingis / Horford / Queta
Those are the 12 roster spots plus Watson presumably signing a 2-way deal. So we have 2-3 NBA spots and 2 more 2-way deals to go.
You just look at the positional by position needs.
Center. With Porzingis out, take him off that depth chart for the first couple of months. And then we know Horford is won't play back to backs. They absolutely, 100% need to sign one guy here to an NBA deal. DUH. And then they absolutely need either another NBA guy or at least a 2-way guy who can play like Queta last year.
Point guard. If there were ever a game where 2 of Holiday/White/Pritchard are out, we'd have to use Springer for actual PG minutes. I know you can play him with Tatum, but that's still not ideal to have Springer playing PG minutes. This warrants another player at least as a backup plan if there's a run of injuries and Springer doesn't work. Can be a 2-way spot.
Power forward. There's no natural backup to Tatum on the NBA roster. Horford can play there in 2 big lineups, but he needs rest days himself already, the older he gets the less athletic he'll get so the PF minutes probably lose effectiveness before the Center minutes, and we already need Horford at center to cover for KP. Maybe Brown or Walsh could kick down here in the regular season, but this isn't ideal. I'd even argue that for a fully healthy playoff rotation, the 8-10 minutes per game Tatum sits come playoff time is the biggest vulnerability because the only real viable option there is Hoford playing in a 2-big lineup which carries some risk.
My guess is that they sign 2 NBA centers. One 2-way PG. And then if they sign a 15th player, it will be a stretch 4 PF type to spell Tatum. The last 2-way goes to whoever.
Realistically, I could see that being completely running it back with Kornet/Tillman for the C spots, Brissett on a new vet min with player option deal, Davison on a new 2-way, and then Peterson for the last 2-way.
My sneaky big "need" for the team though is a PF type to backup Tatum. If Porzingis isn't healthy and you can't get an actual playoff rotation caliber big man (Kornet isn't one, Tillman isn't unless he shoots better) then Horford has to play the 5 before he can fill in as the backup PF. So that's a vulnerability we have. So as much talk as the C spot gets, I'd also prioritize someone better than Brissett if we can find someone.

I see Scheierman more as a stretch 4 so a natural backup to Tatum. He's strong and a plus rebounder, and can also create off the dribble. It's a lot to ask of a rookie but with KP and Horford out (on b2b's) he could hold up in that role so long as his D is passable. We definitely need at least one of Kornet or Tillman, I think that's fine for the RS then in the playoffs fingers crossed KP and Horf will be healthy.

Two areas I wouldn't mind seeing be addressed are rim protection and a traditional/stretch PF type.
Once KP went down in that Dallas series, it felt like they were able to get downhill and to the rim at will for long stretches of the game. We didn't really have an answer. Horford/Tillman are switchable bigs who are better than average on the perimeter but neither provide elite rim protection. Kornet is a jack of all trades regular season minutes eater, but even with his surprisingly high block percentage isn't the answer for rim protection. Queta is the wildcard. Great size/length but fairly ground bound.
I'm all for bringing back all of the above but if they're making changes I think Kornet/Queta would be the duo at risk. And if we were swapping one of them out for another big then I want an interior defender.
And then I think we could probably use another traditional and/or stretch PF. Maybe with the combo of Walsh (who strikes me as more of a lanky wing) and Horford/Tillman (who are more centers with the ability to play on the perimeter) that's not really a need. When I look at the roster though it feels like there is a bit of a gap in between our big men and our wings. Scheierman as well could be the answer here given his ability to rebound the ball but it remains to be seen if he'd be ready to contribute right out of the gate.
Will be interesting to see what happens with Brissett. He's been talking about the team as if he's coming back, but after declining the player options he's clearly looking around. He'd also sort of fill that role of a bigger wing/PF type, so could be the answer for that as well.
Think we'll be mostly stuck arguing about the final two-way spots sooner rather than later, which is a great spot to be in from a roster construction point of view.

Guess the JD Davison experiment is over. He played hard and definitely improved over two seasons, but still lacks the size, shooting, and ball protection to be a regular NBA player.

In another thread, we concluded that a tender offer was unlikely since it would be more generous than a 2 way or exhibit 10 deal.

We really need to move up to 5 x Two-Ways. Have an average of one at each position.
Bump up the Off-season Roster from 21 players to 25 players.

Tristan Enaruna totally impressed me watching videos. He seems totally ambidextrous. Haven't seen enough 3 point shooting to know what he can do. Definitely looks like he could be a diamond in the rough.. One year at Maine and build up that skinny frame and show some shooting consistency and maybe he becomes Tatum lite
Only half joking..

My hope for next years rotation at PG/SG/SF/PF:
PG: Jrue (30), Pritchard (18)
SG: White (32), Scheierman (12), Brown (4)
SF: Brown (29), Hauser (19)
PF: Tatum (35), Walsh (13)
Everyone’s minutes per game on the season would be a bit higher than that because when one guy misses a game the others all play more to fill in. Like let’s say Jrue sits and you play Springer for 10 minutes, the other 30 minutes get distributed to the rest.
But in general, I’m really hoping that Walsh and Scheierman earn those roles and Joe extends the rotation enough to allow them to play night in and night out.
