Wondering if the Tillman signing is predicated on the JT extension, ie: the team wants to give Tillman a decent contract but need to figure out how many dollars will be left in the coffers.

It’s time to go back to back. The big 3 could only muster one title but they where in their 30s

Hauser, Tatum, Tillman. They all gotta get paid..each of them could depend on how much $ the others sign for..although we at least already (pretty much) know the number Tatum is gonna sign for.

JB signed for the absolute maximum amount of $ he was eligible to receive..and we know Tatum is going to do the same..

Tatum, Hauser, Tillman. Maybe sign Wiseman to a vet minimum deal. Ring chasers would rather go to places like NYC or Miami, which is fine. Let the dogs come back here.

It is not, they already know what the Tatum extension will be. its the supermax.

the hold up with Tillman is him looking around and seeing if he can get a better deal elsewhere than whatever Boston is offering.

Depth Chart Right Now. Two openings. Picking a backup PF to Tatum is paramount. For minimum, who do you favor between:

Robert Covington (Age 33, 6' 7")
Cedi Osman (Age 29, 6'7")

It appears they can't even talk about it yet.

Tillman probably looking around if he could get into a better situation and could earn higher $$. He likely already has the number Cs can get to.

All those guys besides Tillman are really small forwards - none could match up with the top bigs of the East

Ok, so I have been advocating for trading KP.

And there's all these Markannen trade rumors swirling around.

How about a KP/Lauri swap?

Add picks and/or filler wherever is needed:


Utah obviously doesn't want KP. They would want picks..we throw in whatever picks and/or young players are needed to get the deal done.

It would be kind of like the Kemba/Horford trade. We had a star player who was now damaged goods - traded him to a team that was rebuilding, just wanted picks/young players..al we really gave OKC in that deal was 1 1st round pick..OKC then re-routed Kemba to the Knicks.

In this scenario, I could see Utah re-routing KP to a team like New Orleans. New Orleans needs a big who can shoot the 3 - that's the type of big that fits next to Zion. And ideally a big who can protect the rim a but too. That's KP.

If not, New Orleans, maybe MIL acquires KP and figures that with KP's injury issues and Lopez getting old, they could have the 2 of them split duties at the 5 (and sometimes play the together if Giannis is on the bench).

Maybe the Knicks make a move for KP, since they need a 5 with Hartenstein gone (and Robinson often gets injured).

Who knows, maybe Utah trades Walker Kessler, leaving them thin at the 5 and they decide to keep KP..

But that way, Boston has a younger, much more durable player in Markannen..a big who can shoot the 3..drive to the basket..and is a more switchable defender than KP (who has trouble closing out on 3 pt shooters)..

Lastly, this would be kind of like when Boston traded for KP. We traded for KP..even though he only had 1 year left on his contract because we already had like a wink wink deal in place for him to sign an extension with Boston - and he signed the extensiuon very soon after the trade was finalized.

Same type of deal here. 

Sure, Markannen will get paid on his extension. But the precedent with this Celtics team seems to be:
a) The Jays get super max deals, so the 2 of them get paid a boat load, while the other starters each have to sacrifice a bit and take slightly less money in order for us to have the most dominating team in the league (Jrue, KP, White could all make more $ elsewhere).. Al, Pritchard are also on team friendly deals..

b) Ownership is willing to spend in order to put a championship team on the floor

Well, I'll go with the incumbent Tillman.

I've coveted Osman on the Celtics for a few years now. The team doesn't really play a traditional PF, it's more having enough and ability to shoot. Tatum is more of a SF/PF tweener.

I don't see how we can have both tho. I hoped for Batum but these guys are going to get paid by pretenders to the throne with some cap space left.

Tillman and Osman would be amazing if it weren't for those darn numbers.

No offense, but this is all silly. Obviously, they're not trading KP. And they're especially not trading him for a soon-to-be-UFA who will make $40M+ in 25-26.

Maybe it's premature since all the talk has been about bringing the core back together. Question is whether KP is really part of that core. The team was good without him (still better with him), but there's a good case to be made that Markannen gives us a lot of what KP does and may actually be a better fit on this team.
