“The Celtics have taken a total of 564 threes so far this season. 470 of them came when open or wide open. That means 83.3% of Boston's perimeter shots have come with a defender AT LEAST four feet away from the shooter.“ — @adamtaylornba on BlueSky

Horford, Tatum, and Springer are QUESTIONABLE; Porzingis OUT for NBA Cup game tomorrow. 1st night of a B2B so I don't expect Horford to play. Watson, Davison, Peterson, and Scheierman all on G-League assignment.

No Trae Young. Hawks have a chance to win now.

Young, Bogdanovic, Bufkin and Krejci all out leave Atlanta without their top 4 ball handlers though. If the Celtics defense comes out to play it's going to be a real struggle for the Hawks to handle the ball pressure.

One of my big hopes for the C's is we never hang a stupid NBA Cup banner.

So I want to win tomorrow.

But if we make it to the finals, I'll be cheering for a loss.

I can see not caring but I can't see rooting for a loss. I'm probably taking you way too literally though.

I already forgot again that this NBA cup was even a thing.

It's a thing because it's sponsored by foreign money.

Game Day Useless Fact: Larry Nance, Jr. has lost 12 of the last 13 matchups vs. Jayson Tatum while being part of 3 different franchises.

After the Group Stage, the deeper they go, the more money each player makes. It's over Half a Mill, for the Guys on the End of the Roster, if they Win it. It's more incentive for the Back of the Bench. Two-Ways get Half.

Edit:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/tonyeast/2024/11/06/nba-cup-prize-money-has-varying-appeal-to-nba-players-a-nice-bonus/
Players on winning team of Championship: $514,971 each
Players on losing team of Championship: $205,988 each
Players on losing team of Semifinals: $102,994 each
Players on losing team of Quarterfinals: $51,497 each

In a league that has some players making upwards of $50 million per season, those numbers may not seem like much. But for some players, it still serves as motivation. For others, it is life changing money given their salary.

Pouring more salt in Lonnie Walker's wound. That's prize money he could've used. He would've helped win It too!

- Game One of the Crappy Cup: America yawns...

- You get the feeling that Chet Holmgren and Porzingis might be related by injuries...

- Should be an easy win for the Celtics. Should be a game off for Tatum and half the team...

- But the PP must flow every game this season...

Couple of Q Stats: Neemie is the only East player (min 5 GP, 15 mpg) that has a defensive rating below 100.0. He is also 5th in net rating among 257 players who's played at least 5 games so far (min 15 mpg). Celtics have been outscoring opponents by 18.2 points per 100 possessions when he's on the floor.

I'd sit JT till Saturday.

Give Sam the start to find a rhythm with heavy starter minutes.

Good game for JB to get back into the swing of things.

Agreed. Tatum with 2 games rest (Atl,Brk) would be a decent idea.

From Brad Rowland, Hawks beat writer:
Roster situation tonight for the Hawks in Boston:

Guards — Daniels, Wallace
Wings/Forwards — Johnson, Risacher, Mathews, Roddy
Bigs — Capela, Okongwu, Nance, Barlow, Gueye

(OUT: Young, Hunter, Bogdanovic, Bufkin, Krejci, Lundy, Zeller)

They really are thin on ballhandlers. If there's a game in which they could use Springer's ballhawking, it would be this. But Joe won't, so what's the point of bringing it up?
