Who are you rooting for Friday, Atlanta or Cleveland?

The Cavaliers and Hawks face off tomorrow afternoon in an NBA Cup match, also known as the Gaudy Floor Tournament.

If the Cavs win and the Celtics defeat the Bulls, the Celtics advance to the knock out round of the Cup series.

If the Hawks win, the Cavs get their third loss of the season and the Celtics move closer to leading the league standings.

So who are you rooting for, Atlanta or Cleveland? Either way something good happens.

I honestly dont care.

The in season touornament is stupid and should be replaced with a tournament that puts the best of the NBA (this season it would be Dallas and Boston as finalists last season) against winners and runners up from other leagues around the world like Euroleague, ACB, maybe eurocup, Gleague

I really only Care about what we do when we play. With the exception of the LAL/Lebron I could care what team wins or loses.

Hawks beat Cavs.
Celtics win by 50+ pts vs. Bulls.

Everybody wins. Except the losers.

Cavs will have plenty of other games to lose. They’ll hit a rough patch at some point. Too early to worry about seeding losses. Might as well have them win and get us in. I’d be shocked if they lost back to back to Atlanta anyways.

It would be shocking but the Celtics managed it last season.

I'm mildly leaning toward Atlanta winning. Adding one extra and meaningless game to the schedule is a negative, should the Celtics advance to the tournament finals.

On the other hand, winning is fun-adjacent, and seeing that Kornet took less money to re-sign with Boston, him getting a tournament winner's share would be nice.

Yeah, I’m fine either way really. I’m not worried about one extra win for the Cavs or one extra game for us. Zoya’s answer is best. For everyone except the poor Bulls again. :D
But any scenario is basically a win for us. Cavs get an L or we get in the cup, or both.

Cleveland.
Win the Cup, then the G League, then the NBA Championship.

Ride off into the Sunset . . .

Are the Lakers still in it? I don't want them to win anything ever again.

I prefer Lakers or GSW facing the Cs for the Cup.

If that happens, that might never happen again.

Would be full on panic time in Believeland if the Cavs lost.

Really don't mind the outcome either way, would be nice if the Cavs hobble a bit before we play them on Sunday.

The Lakers and their embarrassing theatrics/raising the NBA Cup/In Season Tournament banner last year was embarrassing and kind of really off putting for me lol

On a different note, Happy Thanksgiving to all my US (and global) Celtics fans/posters and mods here from Australia !

Hope you all had a great time with the family and a nice feed !!!!

Maybe I'm a dork but I want to win the Cup thing.

The Cavs being a game or two ahead of us in the standings in November is not a big deal imo. Let them wear themselves out trying to win every game.

So go Cavs and Celtics today.

I don't know how I'm just now seeing this thread. I want the Cavs to lose. That being said, if there was ever a time for Cleveland to win and me not be too bothered by it, today would be the day. Treat it as a win win. We basically win either way.

I’d like to win every game, I just don’t like having a banner for the cup. But I would like to see JT sweep MVP awards this year for the haters so I’m good with whatever the easiest path is again.

Here's my thing.
If we just make it to the Knockout round, then all the Backups get $51,497 each.
After that, it doubles for every Win and 2.5 times for the Final ($514,971 each). Two-Ways get half of that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_NBA_Cup
Prize money
Players on teams advancing to the knockout stage will receive prize money as follows:[4]

Players on teams that lose in the quarterfinals: $51,497 each
Players on teams that lose in the semifinals: $102,994 each
Players on the tournament runner-up team: $205,988 each
Players on the tournament championship team: $514,971 each

Per John Hollinger, SIX teams will be eliminated -- CLE, MIA, IND, PHI, CHA, BKN -- if the Hawks win. I'd go with that. Let's make things simple.

I don't want the Cavs to win the NBA Cup so that they don't feel their current domination is validated, which could give them even more confidence going forward. So, let them be knocked out by Atlanta.

The only way for Cavs to win the group is if they win today, and we lose today, and they win again on Tuesday. I don't want to lose today so let's not and then the Cavs don't win the group.
