Noooo! Loss in Cleveland 12/1 – Post-Game Thread

Post#1 » by Gant » Mon Dec 2, 2024 1:27 am

The Cavs played well and defeated the Celtics tonight. This unfortunate result ended Boston's seven game winning streak. Down Brown and without White, many unusual lineups were seen.

It would be nice if Donovan Mitchell would score less in future meetings between these teams.

Drew Peterson!

Boston hosts Miami tomorrow at 7:30.

Good game, great effort and a tough loss. We found another player, Drew Peterson!

It felt like self sabotage by Mazzullla towards the end. Almost as if he wanted a close game to see something.

Drew Peterson played 25 mins.
That guy needs to play in Boston, while we can. Use up the G League mins.

Not worried about it at all. We were missing Brown and D-White, played peterson a ton, and it wasn't a great game overall. We're destined to take back #1.

Anybody know the Celitcs' record with White since 22-23? I'll bet you it's .500 or under.

Almost a legendary performance by Pritch down the stretch.

If we won, was gonna give a vote to Kornet, he gave us some underrated minutes in, I think it was the 3rd quarter. No one else really stuck out to me beyond Tatum's line, but Tatum hurt us at times.

I didn't think Jrue was as bad as he got credit for. He was our leading assist guy and did some little things. He didn't step up on either end when we ideally needed him to, but I didn't feel like he hurt us.

I'm actually kind of glad we gave up the lead, was good practice and an entertaining finish.

Jrue looks washed but he still needs to start because Pritchard is a lot more effective in a bench role where he can shoot more. Tatum isn't a great closer which we already knew. He doesn't play with the force like Brown does.

Mitchell 4 straight buckets and 3 of them were 3s.

If Mitchell is that great, he would've been in the finals already.

He's been doing that since his Utah Jazz days.

I mean always great in the regular season, but always comes up short in the playoffs.

If you think about it, the Cavs needed an explosion from Mitchell and 2 Celtic starters missing for the Cavs to get a win.

Drew P was a pleasant surprise.

Felt like an opportunity missed to make a statement win with Jaylen and Buffalo out, but it took an MVP level final quarter from Spida to bail the Cavs out.

We have a pretty good schedule for the rest of December, we will be fine.

Tough loss. Pritchard didn't remember that he has to let the ball hit the rim before stepping over the Free Throw Line.

Missed Jaylen Brown and Derrick White's DEFENSIVE PRESENCE.

Overall the Celtics did not shoot that well as a Team (21-46 from 2 = 45.6%; 17-49 from 3 = 34.7%).

Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland hit a LOT of TOUGH shots... Still, Jrue Holiday seemed to lose Mitchell and Garland a few times and let them have clean look 3's when they should have been defended tighter. Mitchell had 20 4th quarter pts. This is probably Holiday's worst game as a Celtic. Holiday may have a hip issue that he's playing thru.

Still, I think that the Celtics have to be happy with a 4 point loss Away minus Brown and White.

An Alternative View:

Pts. + Rebounds + (0.5 x Assists) + Steals + (0.5 x Blocks) - Missed Field Goals - (0.5 x Missed Free Throws) - Turnovers - (0.5 x Fouls)

+26.5 Jayson Tatum 38 minutes
+22 Kristaps Porzingis 32 minutes
+21 Payton Pritchard 36 minutes

+15 Sam Hauser 36 minutes

+7.5 Al Horford 30 minutes
+6 Drew Peterson 25 minutes
+4.5 Luke Kornet 9 minutes
+1 Jrue Holiday 34 minutes
+0.5 Jaden Springer less than 1 minute

Jrue Holiday's career didn't suddenly end tonight. He's playing with a hip injury.

Sour grapes. Mitchell has been a killer for years. And often in the playoffs.

Just give them their flowers.

Good game Cavs.
Was great to see some Drew Peterson
Celts offense in the clutch very disappointing, just try to force Garland onto Tatum and that’s the offense
We had 3 possessions, maybe 4, within 30 seconds down 3 and had no misdirection play to create a 3PTA
The one time we need to shoot a three, we can’t get a look
I know we lost without Brown and White but they way we lost reminded me of 2022-23
KP looks pretty good though, not much rust there
Oh well, onto the next one

He's also being asked to create too much with JB and DW out.
