Stay Ready Group/Crew
--------------------------------------------------------------
We know who our Top 8 are.
But, who would you pick next in the Rotation?
Do you give Peterson and/or the other Two-Ways a limited amount of time?
What about Walsh and Scheierman?
Ten Options. Up to 6 Choices.
Celtics Roster, 2024-25:
Starters: Holiday - White - Brown - Tatum - Porzingis
Rotation: Pritchard - Hauser - Horford
Situational: Queta/Kornet
Reserves: Springer - Scheierman - Walsh - Tillman
Two-Ways: Davison - Peterson - Watson
(Lonnie Walker)

Re: Stay Ready Group/Crew = Who would you pick?
After Luke and Queta, I’m thinking Walsh and Scheierman. Jordan for defensive energy and Baylor cause we gotta find out if he can play. If Brad chose to use his first 1st on Baylor, then let the kid run 500 minutes this year, let’s see what we have. Then Peterson.
Tillman is a proven guy, he’s just in a slump, hurt or out of shape, but we know what he is as NBA player.
Springer looks like el busto, he’s a fourth year pro and coach doesn’t go to him in any situation. Davison I’ve abandoned hope for him here, could happen for him but won’t be in Boston.

Lonnie Walker should be the next guy. Period.
Lonnie is a superior player to
Springer
Walsh
Baylor
Peterson
Davidson
Watson
And its situational if he is better than Tillman and Queta as well.
This was brads only really bad move so far in his career. He should have moved Springer for capspace and kept walker.

Re: Stay Ready Group/Crew = Who would you pick?
Queta has worked his way into a coin flip with Kornet, which is great re: Queta and only okay re: Kornet.
Stock up so far: Queta, Peterson but I'm not overreacting, if he's our 15th guy, cool, but not a rotation guy
Stock steady so far: Kornet, Walsh, Watson and Scheierman if you appropriately had no NBA expectations for them this season (rating their Maine performances as pretty solid so far)
Stock down so far: Tillman, Springer, JD
I'm a bit disappointed in Tillman's Celtics career so far. Al still going strong maybe reduces his opportunity, but last time I saw him on the court he sort of fumbled his dribble away, then seemed to do a complete somersault out of bounds while the opponents (DET, maybe?) went on a fastbreak the other way -- wish I could clip it and meme it with "where is bro even going?" but you'll have to take my word for it.
Springer has a couple more months to try to make an impact somehow here
JD has generated good convo in his own thread -- I've generally been a fan/believer but just haven't seen much in terms of potential at the NBA level yet

Re: Stay Ready Group/Crew = Who would you pick?
Kornet and Queta are the two I went with only because I think it's marginal on the difference between 11th and 14th man. More has to do with who's ahead of them than a comparison between any of them against each other. I'm tempted to put Peterson as a vote because he was pretty solid in the limited time he's gotten, but sample size tells me if he had games like Walsh, Baylor, Springer, etc. it wouldn't surprise me either. All have had good moments (except you Baylor lol), but all have been pretty bad too to where I wouldn't trust any of them if called upon. I think that's perfectly fine though, because if you're relying on your 11th man or later you're in trouble or not serious about contending anyways.
I didn't forget about X-man either, I just feel he's definitely slipped to 5th big. If all are healthy he's not likely to see any playing time behind KP, Al, Kornet, Queta, and that's ok. As someone else mentioned we know what he is and he's an NBA-level player. Throw positions and who's in front of you depth-wise out the window he'd be 11th imo, but it's a deep deep 11th when all are healthy.

Re: Stay Ready Group/Crew = Who would you pick?
I've turned into such a Kornet believer, I've got to laugh at just how little I thought of him previously, but he's my top choice. The ceiling isn't high with him, but the floor is great for his cost. For such a talented team that's incredibly valuable because you can make up for what he lacks elsewhere, you just need him not to be a massive net negative. Of course he'll get dominated by the likes of Embiid, but ultimately we'd just be trying to squeeze 10-15 serviceable minutes out of him when it counts and he can give you that by being in the right place at the right time making the right play.
I had a coach who used to remind us that even the best players only make their shots around 50% of the time, just don't give them the easy ones and you can have things break your way half the time. Luke doesn't give away the easy ones all that often.
Walsh is my next guy because I just love the physical tools. He should be the kind of guy who can really elevate the team defense by playing with high energy, getting in passing lanes, getting out in transition etc. I'm not even counting on any/much offensive production, just be a menace on the defensive end, give us some juice there and our talented offensive players can make up the difference. He's not that player yet, but would love to give him chance to develop into it.
Queta would round out my top 3. His high's make him a really intriguing prospect but his low's are still too low. The inconsistency is a bit of a killer, but you can see potential there. He can definitely have an impact for you when he's on his game, but can also just be played off the court and that's why I've got Luke ahead of him in the pecking order.
The rest are a bit of a hodgepodge.
Lonnie, Springer and Tillman all have uses. Lonnie as a microwave scorer, Springer/Tillman as versatile defenders. In theory I could see a road to usefulness for any of the 3, but they've also got pretty obvious flaws which make them hard to count on. With our offensive firepower I'd lean towards the defenders rather than Lonnie.
Baylor's been disappointing but obviously too soon to really judge him. Good profile but was hoping he'd be a bit more polished at his age. Solid G League performances so far, hopefully gets more run with C's in the future.
The two-ways are all a bit suspect (but that's to be expected):
- Peterson needs to be a consistent 40% 3PT guy to be in the league and hasn't been that at the G League level
- Davison I think is a 4A guy, too good for the G, not good enough for the NBA
- Watson too early to tell, jack of all trades guy, but hasn't really popped since a solid SL showing
I like the cast of characters we've got. Hope there's one or two diamonds in the rough.

Walker was a FA for the entire offseason. And even right now, he has an NBA-out in his contract with Zalgiris.
He's been there for the taking for all 30 teams. All 30 teams have decided against signing him. So that makes no sense to say it was a bad move by Brad. If it was a bad move by Brad, it was a bad move for all 30 teams in the league - which doesn't make any sense.
Also, there have been multiple reports now that stated that Brad actually *did* try to trade Springer in preseason and (possibly) sign Walker to fill that roster spot. But it didn't happen because other teams were asking for Brad to give up draft compensation in the deal, which Brad smartly did not want to do.
Draft picks are very valuable, especially with the new CBA. Either to use as trade bait (to acquire useful players...not to salary dump a guy on a rookie contract), trade up in the draft or draft a useful player. useful players on cheap rookie contracts are more valuable than ever, with the new CBA..

You're being facetious. This often gets you in trouble.
I put Walker, for reasons obvious to anyone. Let it go.

It's a valid question.
Lonnie Walker gets talked about more than actual players on our team though even if he's 4,000 miles away.

It's because thanks to Brad and the new CBA we've got very little to discuss when it comes to roster construction.
Our top 8 are already firmly locked in, we've got 2 rookie contract guys still developing, a trio of bigs we just re-signed this summer and then one odd man out in Springer whose contract teams are asking for draft capital to take on but is also so small that it works for matching on very little. We can't combine salaries for trades, we can't get any marquee buyout players, any player we do add costs significantly more than their contract thanks to the tax penalties. The Lonnie talk is just a symptom of us having very little else to debate.
In this kind of conversation I view Lonnie as placeholder for player "X". Whether it's Lonnie or Shake Milton or Javonte Green or Champagnie or Oshae, it's another cheap contract that is likely obtainable, who has some flaws, but "break glass in case of emergency" type value to us. Lonnie is just the standard bearer for that function since he was already on the roster in the preseason and might have stuck around if not for the costs associate with carrying a 15th guy.

Gotta confess that the Spectre of LWIV made it on my list.
Bro is linked to the team, no denying no matter how many miles away. And yet, he's not really on the the team. Thus, The Spectre!

I wonder if Peterson continues to play a lot for the Boston Team.
Probably has a lot to do with Hauser playing or not.

Re: Stay Ready Group/Crew
After watching the Maine Celtics last night, and the Boston Team tonight. I firmly believe that we need to:
1) Promote Peterson.
2) Waive Davison.
3) Promote Ward (to a Two-Way).
4) Add another Two-Way (To fill the empty spot.).

Davison's minutes against DET were rough
but he doesn't have to turn out to be an NBA player in order to have value to this franchise. Keep him in Maine to keep that team humming along -- better developmental environment for the wings and bigs who spend time in Maine

I don't think it's good to keep him, if we're not developing him.
And, if JD stays with Maine past this year, then it would be as a regular G-Leaguer, and not a Two-Way.
G-Leaguers get $40,500 this year. And if he comes to Boston's Training Cap (2025) he could get another $75K.
But, seems like he would do better overseas?
