Players on nonguaranteed contracts will have their deals fully guaranteed if they remain on rosters past Jan. 7. This does not apply to anyone on the Celtics’ current roster, but it’s worth keeping an eye on that date, anyway, because they still have an empty roster spot and are expected to monitor the activity of teams with players on nonguaranteed deals, according to a league source.

Also, we can trade Jaden Springer for an ungauranteed player and then cut him before the guarantee date for the tax savings plus opening a roster spot. Taj Gibson or somebody making $3 million but only $1 guaranteed.

Then promote a guy like Drew Peterson or bring back Lonnie Walker to complete the 14-man roster.

I'd like to see both Walker and Peterson come up to the Boston club.

I believe the Cs can only afford one of them.

To lessen the tax penalty, Cs keeping only 14 players is the ideal.

That is assuming the Cs trade Springer.

If the Cs can't trade Spring then most likely we will be stuck with what we have right now.

No, they can a 15th man on the last days of the season and carry 15 into the playoffs.

They did it last year, Queta was the 15th, and year before, Champagnie was the 15th… so if we add Drew it will be last week of the season, after he uses up his 50 2-way games he’s eligible for.

So we could trade Springer open a roster spot, sign Lonnie Walker and then promote one of our two ways, probably Peterson, so he is on the playoff roster. Lonnie and Drew could still be a possibility if the front office wants to go that route

Yeah. That's something like what I'm thinking. = Add Lonnie Walker, buy his Buyout Date. Then Add Peterson by Last Day of the Season. Though, I can also see bringing Peterson up earlier; enough to be able to add another Two-Way.

Yes, but Cs will be paying luxury tax again this season.

So while that is possible, I think Cs will try to minimize the luxury tax penalty by staying with 14 players under contract.

But if money is not an issue then yeah, why not both.

I live in Austin and we actually only get 1/4 of Spurs games on Fox Sports SW, so I don’t see them as much as most NBA teams even tho the game is taking place 90 minutes away. I haven’t seen any of Mamu or Champagnie. But I’ve heard Champagnie is a nice piece they found and locked up, their Hauser so to speak.

Blake Wesley seems an interesting player. He’s having a down year shooting but he’s still young, a poor mans Marcus Smart type, and it’s looking like he may not be in their long term plans since they added a better version of that archetype in Steph Castle and you can’t play multiple so-so shooters… but Wesley might now be undervalued, I think he’d be easier to get than Champagnie at this point… tho if you are talking about finding shooters, he’s not that guy

Coincidentally, Wesley is from the pick we gave them in the White deal.

I already stated my desire for J. Champagnie. But I am guessing we can't even discuss a trade without at least one 1st rder. How much draft capitol would you like to give up.

Personally I’d burn the first rounder for the right guy. Not sure if they are it but this is the year to go all in.

Those guys also are young with Champagnie 2.0 having another cheaper year.

I mean, hopefully X bounces back but he’s been near mia so far.

Choosing my words carefully, but I see a D White "type" of player in Champagnie. Obviously, he has been coached well in SAS. But I also think POP realizes he may have given any D White for a little cheap and will not want to make a similar mistake again.

I also like the Champagnie of the Spurs.

Could be a potential Jrue replacement in the starting 5.

I'm glad you guys have warmed up to Champagnie :D

I'd give up the 25' 1st in a heartbeat for him, BUT I'd like their rights to the Bulls 25' 2nd

Posted this on reddit but I think with Hauser's back issues, they could use another playable wing.

Guys that work in the trade machine for Springer would be:

Torrey Craig

Noah Clowney (not happening)

Shake Milton

Springer/Walsh for Malik Beasley (probably not happening, Beasley and Detroit have been better than expected)

Seth Curry

Dalano Banton (lol)

Keon Ellis (not happening)

Svi Mykhailuk (lol)

Good call, he'd make sense (his salary doesn't work w/Springer though)

I personally rather start giving Walsh more minutes. I think he is playable now and will be legit rotation if given the opportunity.

Walsh had a great preseason, but he just can't shoot. We're playing 4v5 when he's on the court.

If he could shoot, then it wouldn't be an issue
