Post#1 » by Parliament10 » Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:14 am

Who would you Trade, if anyone; in this last week before the Deadline?

Celtics Roster, 2024-25:
Starters: Holiday - White - Brown - Tatum - Porzingis
Rotation: Pritchard - Hauser - Horford
Situational: - Queta/Kornet
Reserves: Springer - Scheierman - Walsh - Tillman
Two-Ways: Davison - Peterson - Watson

Affiliates: Enaruna, Harper, Ward
Returning: Scrubb, Schakel

15th Spot?
Lonnie Walker
Drew Peterson

Depends on the return. I think Springer, Tillman or both are potentially moved.

I only want to see one move, Springer for Coffey.

Coffey is a potential replacement for Jrue and Joe will play Coffey over Hauser.

Cs will have to compensate the Clips with a pick or picks.

Being an over the 2nd Apron Team, and as we can't congregate players; I don't think that anyone gets moved.
But, it does depend upon the return.

They make about the same amount. It may be good for the Celtics. Someone behind the Jays?
Clippers would likely want to Trade Coffey to cut Salary though, right?

I don't see the Jrue replacement, however?

This trade deadline is crucial because of the salary cap situation of the Celtics.

Brad needs to start planning for the future, but not at the expense of the present.

The most logical scenario is the Celtics will keep JT, JB, and KP.

You just don't give up on a star big man like KP.

So the Cs need to find cheaper players that are good enough to surround that Celtics Big 3.

The sale process really has me confused as to what to expect. If there was no luxury tax, I’d expect no move or a small move involving Jaden Springer or Xavier Tillman for a different depth piece.

But we are facing a projected $280 million luxury tax bill next season and we are literally in the middle of a bidding process for the team, so I could see a bigger trade involving White or Holidays contract for shorter, expiring or smaller contracts. Even though this wouldn’t increase odds of the repeat, it would increase the sale price and perhaps stabilize the cap sheet going forward. And I can’t believe the financial realities of the luxury tax are not hanging over this deadline in some form or fashion.

So, I really don’t know, but I think a bigger trade moving a larger salary (White, Holiday, Porzingis) is a higher likelihood event than most think.

Even if the Celtics get sold today, the new owner/s will be informed that the Celtics can work on the cap sheet when the season is over.

The dreaded 500m tax bill won't happen until the end of the 2026 season.

So there's time to remedy that.

Still think he might find his groove here but I’d say Tillman for Yabs or Theis.

I've switched allegiances from Tillman to Springer, so my desire would be to see Xavier go for nothing (salary dump).

My prediction is that Springer and a 2nd get sent out for nothing (larger salary dump), and we panic, cry, and then hopefully win #19 anyways.

Further prediction: if either goes, Peterson gets converted to a 'real' contract and roster spot as close to the end of the RS as possible.

I'm conflicted on trading X. On one hand, he seems to have dropped a notch below Springer as the most obvious tradable assett, and Joe has been relying more on Kornet and Queta as backups so his role has diminished.

OTOH, he did show up in the playoffs last year for a spell, and his knee recovery could be rounding into form by April - June when he may be needed. Besides that, he's been a good camper since he's been here, very affordable contract, has his family settled -- it doesn't seem like a very Brad-like move to move on from X yet. Technically, yeah he got a ring, but it's not a good look on the org to give up on a player so quickly.

Nevertheless, a small trade to open up some salary and get Walker here, or something to give the team a bit more of the edge thatb has been lacking -- I dunno, but I assume Brad sees that there is a need and is in the market, so X must be in the mix.

1. The idea of dumping some salary for tax penalty purposes would seem more compelling if Wyc + Co were staying around, instead of sorting through multiple $5B+ offers for the franchise.

2. I've come up with my Rash Idea of the Day: Trade X for nothing. Then sign, to the playoff roster, BLAKE GRIFFIN!
Sure it's his second straight season out of the league right now, and nothing has indicated he's kept in shape in retirement. But he's still (barely) 35 years old and you know you want this. One dunk any time this spring and the Garden will absolutely explode (no terrorist).

Blake has a new gig doing the studio show for Amazon's NBA coverage next season. It will be Blake, Dirk Nowitzki and Taylor Rooks doing the pregame and halftime etc.
Gonna miss KP but he's no Georges Niang.

I chose three players for three different reasons

Springer to acquire Kessler or Sharpe. Kessler is an upgrade and instantly the best rebounder on the team

Scheierman - in the day of the punitive CBA can they afford to keep him. Can they get two seconds for him?

Hauser - I don't think it will happen, by the deadline, but until new ownership says "sure spend whatever you need" he has to be considered. Does he do enough to warrant his future salary or do they wait and have a $10 million per year trade chip?

Tillman if they get a big is gone unless another big is in the trade
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

Trading Tatum this season is illegal.

Tatum signed a designated veteran contract extension.

That means he cannot be traded this season.

Is there a guarantee that Flagg will be a top 5 player in the NBA?

We already have a top 5 player in the NBA that's also a champion.

Time will come when the Jays get old and the Celtics will be back in the lottery.

Some of the Celtic fans will wish the Jays can play forever when the Celtics are back to having players like Ron Mercer, Walter McCarty, Tony Battie, etc.
