Celts Give 'Em Seventy-Six Smacks Right Upside The Head! Victory Cigar vs PHI 3/6

Post#1 » by bisme37 » Fri Mar 7, 2025 2:51 am

Hey that was super fun you guys we wrecked the sorry-ass Sixers and won the big game hooray!

Jayson Tatum and Derrick and Payton and Baylor Scheierman (!) and Torrey Craig and Luke and Neemias Queta and Jordan Walsh and all the Celtics woohoo!

No JB, KP, Jrue, Al or Sam, and Derrick lost a tooth, but the Celts balled out and gave us a great show!

Lakers Saturday, Go C's!!

A million highlights!:

I didn't even break a sweat tonight.

Tatum runs away with the cigar, and Pritch and White didn't disappoint. But I especially liked what I saw from Scheierman on what may have been his true christening as an NBA player.

After that Denver game, Tatum is SGA, So Great Again!

Rico finally had a big game as a Celtic.

Yabu didn't look so good in this game.

Cigar goes to Scheierman. Tatum could have scored 60 against that g-league opposition.

Toothed assassin was lob city, Tatum was a torch, Pritch did things, TC had a couple moments, loved Jordan’s hustle, Rico with his best, Korny always here, Queta did some things, etc!

We were missing some of everybody but the Never Play Brigade wouldn’t relent! They did the dang thang! Proud! That was fun!!

Philadelphia has fallen on hard times. Still, they've had a less disappointing season than Dallas, so they've got that going for them.

The Celtics were without 5 of the top 8. 5 1/2 of 8 if you count Derrick White being effectively knocked out.

It was nice to see Scheierman loosen up and do his thing. He looked dead in the water in summer league, and not much better in his first G league games. But he's gotten better ever since, and now looks like a possible NBA player.

Torrey Craig is a top shelf post-trade-deadline free agent.

Queta had a bad, good, bad, really good game.

Miles Norris has now played more minutes for the Celtics than Anton Watson.

Bobby Krivitsky‬ @bobbykrivitsky.bsky.social‬

Joe Mazzulla has expressed his gratitude that Neemias Queta allows him to be demanding of the seven footer. I asked Mazzulla what his points of emphasis were when he got on Queta after subbing him out in the first quarter and what he made of Queta's response.

Mazzulla: "I just think he had some opportunities to finish plays in the paint, and with them blitzing and changing defenses, we have to be able to punish that. I thought in the first half, he was just a little hesitant on those, and in the second half, he did a great job finishing them."

Mazzulla on Queta continued: "When you're hard on a guy like that, I told him that yesterday [that] I truly think that he has a chance to be a good player in this league, & he's won games for us. And it's hard sometimes when he doesn't get to play all the time, but that can't impact his value."

Mazzulla on Queta continued: "I really believe in him, and he's got a chance to be good, so it's important to stay on him."

Joe Mazzulla when asked about Torrey Craig's impact crashing from the corners. Craig had 12 points & 4 offensive rebounds in the Celtics' win over the 76ers.

"His physicality, we felt that on both ends of the floor, and [he's] a great screener. But those plays were huge...He's been great at that.”

I guess Tatum “deserved” it but as one poster said, we were playing the Little Sisters of the Poor tonight, so I’m giving it to Scheierman for actually looking like a legit player and playing well.

I am gonna jump on this one and add that I find these games so much more fun than most this season. The young guys can play. Still amazed and/or Pissed our fearless leader couldn't/wouldn't play some of these guys more throughout the season.

Tatum is so much better when he is truly the Top option vs letting others get it going when Boston is at full strength. And a shout out to Scheierman. While I am definitely not convinced his "one game" was enough for me to think he can be a solid Rotation player one day, at least he took a big step in the right direction tonight.

Tatum was awesome in the mildest manner possible. Baylor was super fun, esp when he mopped the floor with his body defending the breakaway in the 4th. Kornet so good now he doesn’t need token votes. But I gave him one tonight.

Nice to see Tatum, White, Pritchard starting to hit that next gear.
Brown just behind
and Al right there too when playing.

Get Jrue fixed up and Kristaps unsick and this team will be unstoppable.

Exactly, that is the teams superpower RE: Tatum.

He needs to still be top dog. Period.

Then everyone else can play the other roles and be miles ahead of everyother team in the league.

Scheierman can pass. Last night vs the Philly B squad, he played off the ball, but the guy is capable of tossing some spectacular passes.

He's earned some further looks to see what he can do against real competition. D and quickness are still question marks. But surprisingly, he now has a chance. Good. For a long time it didn't look like he'd get to this point.

What if we had a star like Kelly Oubre who gets the friendly whistle from the refs.
