YOU have the power…

…to change one and only one of these NBA Finals outcomes: 1985,1987,2010,2022. Which is it and why? Figure this might be a cool thought exercise/topic for the offseason. Let’s hear your choice!

I don't have an immediate answer. I want to think about it. But what a great topic.

Man tough call. I'd probably rank them in order I wanna change:
1987 - I was 16 and that Magic Johnson baby sky hook over McHale (and Parish) in the Garden was devastating. Man, if he had just missed that! 2-2 instead of 3-1 LAL. It confirmed that '85 wasn't a fluke.
2010 - Super rough since we were so dang close but ran out of gas
1985 - First ever loss to the Lakers in the finals!
2022 - Rough, but nobody really expected the run to start the year, so it wasn't as painful as some of the others.

85 or 87 are the historical choices, evens up the championships with Bird and Magic for a start but I'd take 2010 just for personal reasons. I was watching it on a dodgy stream and couldn't believe we were ahead..or the bloody Artest 3. It would also mean the Lakers had never beaten the Celtics in a game 7. The big 3 get a second ring that moves them up the NBA pantheon and all is right with the world again.

Too young for the 80s so probably 2010 for me. So dang close all the way to the end in game 7. 2022 just felt like we were beat fair and square. I also feel like this year was very bittersweet and injuries kept us from a fair shot at repeating (obviously not finals)
Also not a finals but honorable mention - I wanted to the 2012 ECF vs. the Heatles so bad. Such an epic series and it really felt like we could do it as a last hurrah for the big 3

‘87 for me. That freaking skyhook crap still bothers me. Although I’m better now.

I think 2010. That team deserved another ring.

Make a Poll.
Let's see what the vote is?

That’s a great idea. I’ve been here for over 20 years and have never made one. Don’t know how. Can you put one in there by chance? Or does the thread need to be deleted and started over? Embarrassing I know. I have very rarely started a thread.

This is my order, exactly. I was 10 in 1987 and that baby hook devastated me. I watched it live with my dad. Ugh.

This is my Vote, as well.
Injuries killed us that year.

Definitely 2010. I (sports) hate the Lakers, and especially Kobe Bryant.
The 2012 conference finals loss to Miami is also at the top of the list of ones that hurt the most and I would love to be able to change.

I gotta go 2010. I was born in 1990 and wasn’t alive for the 80s. Gotta get Paul Ray KG and Rondo a second title. There’s still time for Brown and Tatum to get a second without needing 2022.

I'm gonna have to say 22'.
Ime gets a ton of hate, and rightfully so, but he was brought in to get the toughness and defensive mindset out of the C's at that time.
They win in 22' and most likely Ime is still gone, but maybe the 22'/23' season wouldn't be a let down.
Free agency and trades would have a different path.
They ride the high of the Russell trophy, get back to work and go back to back. The Nuggets would be the team to beat in the West but the C's played them well in the regular season. OKC is still in the infant stage.
Going back to back solidifies the Jay's earlier and the need to go and get Jrue and Porzingis is out the door going for the three peat.
There isn't the cloud of the sale hanging over the team for the 23/24 season and the 2nd apron isn't a thought.
Those 21/22', 22/23' and 23/24' teams could have been the last dynasty that the league was trying to get rid of with the new CBA rules.

Voted for the one that I’m still not ready to talk about. I just missed those 80s teams or would likely feel the same way about them

2010 - This is the one I would change. Not only were they up 3-2 going into games 6 and 7 they laid a complete egg game 6 and that game was 100% over in the first 5 minutes. Game 7 sucked as well. It kills me they were up 16 at one point. They lost the game because no one on the team could rebound in the 4th quarter.
The other losses don't hurt as much. I never thought they were beating golden state, and I was kinda young in the 80s and did not care much about the celtics as I do now.

Even though Bird is my favorite player ever, It has to be 2010 for me. I hate the Lakers and Kobe. Since I was born in 1983, my first memories of watching Boston Celtics is in 1989. If I was born 10 years earlier it is likely I would pick 1985 or 1987. Celtics win one of those titles and Bird would be in everyone's top 5 players ever. A 3 peat in mid 1980's and the debate is just Big 3 Celtics and Jordan Bulls for greatest team ever. The only question is If Celtics win title in 1985, does Red still go after Walton and Sichting? Coming off back to back titles, the 1985-86 Celtics may not have been as good and would have lacked motivation throughout an entire season.

1987 for me. That was painful.
