Given our totally unexpected nice record, do we bring JT back in Feb if he is ready?

Post#1 » by exculpatory » Sat Dec 13, 2025 8:27 pm

Do we?

Still too many TOVs & 78% FT, but JB is playing at a SUPERIOR All Star level.
Credit where credit is due for a dude I have wanted to trade for a long time.

Walsh out of the blue!

Queta decent. Like 10R!

And Pritch & Derrick haven’t begun to shoot 3s like they are capable of - both at 33%.

PS Haven’t been around cause dealing w multiple family crises.

I would hope JT returns when and only when he is 100% regardless of our team record. But I get the temptation of coming back and helping this team come playoffs. But a part of me still would love to see players like Walsh-Minott-Queta and Hugo grow on a playoff run and If we did indeed make the playoffs, even a 1st rd exit would still be beneficial for our young players growing. Not sure that happens as much If Tatum returns.

I say no but JT explicitly won't do what I tell him to. If he hits the point he feels like he's in game shape and he's sitting out just to follow an unwritten rule of caution, I think he's going to push to get on the court. I don't believe the narrative that it's all up to JT. That's just good media. There's going to be internal debates. Does JT have veto power? Probably. We really might not be able to stop him from playing lol that's the kind of gamer he is. Dude historically hates to sit out games for non-family reasons.

Nope. But maybe in March.

You bring him back if he is legit ready of course. But that’s the question. Will he be holistically ready, mentally and physically and game ready!!!
I think Feb is not at all likely but who knows.

Like Joe said, it's up to JT.

My estimate is March or February, after All-Star break.

I'm thinking Feb 8, 2026, against the Knicks.
That's who he went down against, in the 2nd Round of the Playoffs, 2025.

If I had to bet, he's gonna come back then.
After that, there's only one Game before the All-Star Break.

Plenty of time to shake the rust off.

I think that there is no way that he'll be 100% NBA ready.
You have to play at NBA speed, to be that ready.

He's just gotta come back, when he thinks that he can play with the big boys; and go from there.

I think he is coming back this season, but I would still bet on later. Maybe some games in late March and April, and maybe be ready for the playoffs. I am fine with him waiting to 26/27 though too.

If they don't get another good big I wouldn't even entertain it but if he's medically cleared I don't know what you can do if he wants to play..

Was just reading this Krivitsky article. Achilles expert Dr. Kevin Stone says...

- You can tell if the tendon is healed by looking at MRIs
- Once it's healed, it's healed, and well-healed Achilles tendons are not prone to re-tearing
- A hypothetical return as soon as January is "definitely realistic"
- "The longer you're out, the harder it is to come back"

I may wait until next season honestly and see if this team can add some pieces etc. Right now I don't see any team beating OKC (unless they have some catastrophic injuries)

Also Ex, hope you're hanging in there and my thoughts are with you FWIW. :)
