Therein lies Detroit's weakness IMO. I was talking with some people about this earlier this morning.

You can interpret these comments a certain way: Detroit lost the game because they didn't take it seriously. Chris Sheridan on ESPN has an interesting article on a similar topic.

Indeed the Celtics did play more aggressive to even the score with Detroit at their arena(1-1). The celtics sent a message out to the league that they can compete with "good teams" - as Chauncey would say.

However This article would seem very Curio for Chauncey to say something like that as he is one of the vocal leaders of the Pistons.

He's right -- if the Celtics lost to the Pistons 2 out of 3 games this season (if not 3 out of 3) including at home in Boston, some of our players would probably have a mental block if we met them in the playoffs and question if we could beat them.

Teams like the Spurs and Kings had a similar problem with the Lakers for years -- and the Kings never were able to get over that hump.

Chauncey can be such pompous ass. I'm sorry. But he is a good player, no doubt about it, but he is not that good. He sounds like a little baby saying those things. Who cares how the other team feels or celebrates a victory. If there is one thing this dope should understand, this team knows they haven't won crap yet and they will focus more on the bad from this game than the good to fix what they can. Why doesn't he tell his teammate Wallace to shut his mouth from now on. That is what he should be commenting on.

Did you guys notice the difference in his expressions at the begining of the game and when the celtics had the win.

These guys try to beat you mentally, they are arrogant for someone who won a championship by surprise.

Everyone talks about them being the team in the east the past few years, but that is because there was no one in the east.

So, oh, we beat them because they didn't care, what does that mean? they will beat us whenever they want.

I said it before and I will say it again, with both teams healthy I will take the celtics in a 7 games series.

Pistons LIVE AND DIE on the outside shot. He missed at crunch time as he did in the playoffs last year. They have to play their best to beat us. Our chemistry is still developing. They should be worried. He is trying to console himself but he has seen the future and it is Boston.

I don't think this means they didn't try very hard as suggested in the original post at all? I think it's Chauncey being smug and acting like they didn't care and that's why they lost. That simply wasn't the case and that's just sour grapes. They played hard too, it was a great game, and the outcome might be different the next time.

Chauncey just makes himself sound like an idiot with those comments and if anything it will just piss our guys off. Obviously the game meant more to us since they won the first, but they wanted to win it just as bad.

What's being overlooked here is the Garnett factor. KG looks at practice like the "Super Bowl", so of course he's going to fire up his team to beat the Pistons.

Chauncey is probably going to need to get used to seeing the Celtics fired up to play everytime.

You would think after acting so smug and entitled and then losing for the last two years in the playoff that the Pistons would cut their nonchalanace act. Very unlikable team for a group of guys who play basketball "the right way".

Two words for Chauncey: sore loser. Maybe he missed 3-of-4 free throws (and also air-balled a three-pointer) in crunch time because this game was unimportant to him.

Exactly. Being a good friend of KG's he should expect nothing less than treating every game like a Suber Bowl from a Garnett led team. I gotta say, I never realized how physical on defense and how much flopping on offense these Pistons are, especially Chauncey.

That is what seperates the good teams from the very good teams: The very good teams take each and every game seriously and celebrate each victory. Detroit, according to Chauncey's comments, just didn't put all of their effort in it. However, I think they did and he just wants to make it sound as if Detroit can beat Boston every day of the week, only if they want. But that is ridiculous. Teams should always want to win.

qft... AND they got no inside presence. Those J's won't be falling as regularly during the playoffs. They are like a talented JimObrien team?! Hard defense and launching from down-town all the time.
