Real Celtics fans have class, about posting on other boards

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Mon Jan 7, 2008 4:33 am

It has come to the attention of the Mods, and the rest of RealGm, that several posters of this board have been going to other boards and acting in a disrespectful manner. This has sometimes been in ways that is all out trolling, but also has been in much more subtle forms. Please whenever you post on another board make sure that your post is contributing to legitimate basketball discussion and is not insulting or rude.

Let us not forget that a year ago at this time our team stunk. Let us recall how asinine a jerk from a much better team who came onto our board and said "were gonna whoop you" looked. My point is, most of them know we are going to whoop them, a classy individual doesn't need to tell them. Those that think they are going to win may be right and have a right to their opinion especially on their own board, I am not saying don't disagree with them, I am saying if you are going to please post a logical explanation for your disagreement, not "you guys suck".

When you go on other boards remember, you are a guest, you should be gracious and friendly, I am not saying don't go onto another board and explain why you think we will win a particuler match up of players, or why you think that there assessment of an individual Celtics player is wrong, however going over there and saying "you suck" or "Celts by 30" is not productive to basketball conversation and reflects poorly on the whole board.

We have already lost several posters this season because they crossed the lines on other boards, we have no power to prevent you from being banned for trolling if the violations occur on another board. What one board considers a friendly bit of trash talk another may consider pure trolling. So if you must post on other teams boards don't take any chances, if you think it might be construed as trolling or if you would think negatively of someone if they said the same thing to you, don't post it.

To the majority of you who don't post on other boards, or when you do so, do it in a respectful manner, thank you. However this is a situation not limited to 4 or 5 people so we felt it was best to just make an announcement.

So please don't forget, whenever you post you are representing Celtic Nation, so please post in a way that shows just how classy we are as Celtics fans.

Thank you

I want to be the president of all these people. We can call ourselves, people who get kicked out of other teams boards for just saying what we think.

You don't even have to say it in any sort of negative manner for them to get pissed. Making the point that the rivlary isn't back because the celts won both games by an average of 15 points isn't trolling. Maybe I don't know what trolling is. I find the whole thing to silly.

i don't post on other boards.

But i do get censored on this one when i say "Detroit Sucks" (which was my entire post).

What i should have said is "Wow, i really appreciate a team like Detroit. While they aren't my favorite team, i respect them and have nothing but great things to say about them. Thank goodness for such a wonderful rival... I hope they do really well when they aren't playing us. Lets all be mature now, and give big hugs to everyone. World Peace!"

Listen, I'm a Boston Sports Fan and this is a Boston Sports Board not a Monastery!!!!!

I agree with the argument of being civil on their board even if they have not been on ours in the past. I think for what it's worth we should be able to say what we want about other teams on our board. I for one will follow what the mods deem fit of course. My skin is thick, but would like to go and lay it one some who I think have it coming to them. 8)

Thats kind of the point Bruno, maybe its not trolling, but its not classy either, the point of this thread was to say, hey, if someone posted that here would you like that poster and want them to post here more often, no, so its not something you post on another teams board.

LOL as for your post you said it in the context of a thread that was a detriot fan "extending an olive branch" and I belie it was more then detriot sucks, it was detriot and all of its fans suck, which was an obvious attempt to stir the pot and create a flame war. If you had just said, on our board I don't think we should have lost the first game, I think we are a much better team then detriot, perfectly acceptable, but what you did was basically spill a drink on a guy, who had just bought it for you becuase he felt bad that some of his friends were being jerks. You can post all you want why you think we are better then detriot, but dont treat kidness with rudeness.

i for one am glad that you posted this. i agree that we have been the recipent of other teams "trolling" in prior yrs, but I think that there is a difference between being humble and arrogant. San Antonio is the best team in the NBA until some one else changes that this yr. For all their greatness and domiance I rarely see Spurs posters talking about how they are going to whoop this team or that team each night. I am as excited about this team as much as anyone, I have been a fan since the 80's but I also think that a lot of the critisizim we get we bring on ourselves for being arrogant. I hope we can enjoy this ride we are on and this amazing season we are having and respect/remember where we have been the past..........years..

I agree with your post. RealGM San Antonio fans, however, are not the best example to use here, as they are eighteen total (including the mods).

Whatever dude. Bottom line, I said "Detroit Sucks" and nothing more. So what if it was in a lame thread where some corny detroit fan was basically saying "why can't we all just get along?"

Thank goodness y'all came to the rescue. i could have hurt his feelings.

since when did everyone become so sensitive. have some fun. sports rivalries aren't all hugs and kisses.

I mean do you really need it explained why when a detriot fan says hey there have been some bitter words between us but there is no reason we can't get along, and you reply detriot sucks, that might be a little inappropriate, note you did not get a warning for that, you got a warning for your later actions on the matter. Regardless, when we have guests here from other boards, and they act in a kind a curtious mannor we as mods have to protect them as well, just like we protect you when trolls come here. He came, said nothing negative about the celtics and you responded with an insult. This is what I am talking about, acting with class.

I know I'd like to hear the view of other teams posters on this board. So when they come in and get the classy "Your team sucks" post, I wouldn't want to post here either. I don't understand why people have a hard time just talking basketball and not insulting each other/team.

100% agree. Is there some void in one's life that gets filled when being a jerk online in a basketball forum?

Excellent point in the 2 posts before this. How many good posters from other teams can we expect to visit our board if every poster, good or bad, is met with "your team sucks"? Let the warnings, suspensions, and bans weed out the bad posters but let's not let our lack of class weed out the good ones just the same. The bad thing too is the good ones will leave a lot quicker than the bad ones.

I must say I do think it is a little unfair though that the guy from another board recieves a punishment much quicker than the guy from our own board. The terms of service are the same whether you are posting on your own teams board or not. I don't want this to take away from what canman and sunshine said though. Just a little aside I wanted to address...

I mean, i agree in general.

But when it is Celtics VS Pistons or Celtics VS Lakers...

Meanwhile, Odom is tackling Ray Allen and Billips is running his mouth. Rivalries like this are fun... well supposed to be.

That pretty much just says it all.

Look we finally have a team worthy of this message board's greatness don't shut out the fans of other team's because their ball club is lacking. Let them bask in our collective posting greatness.

Anyways how is Shackles not a mod? You guys have to find away to squeeze one more guy up on the top of the page.
