Do you think this is the year?

I was having an argument with my friends, 6 to be exact, and they think they won't win it all and will only reach 2nd round and some thinks Conference final. They kept talking about our bench is weak and coach is not good enough. They think Pistons or Spurs will win it all but I kept telling them that Celtics will win it all because they have a lot of weapons in this team. And they laughed.

I'm not trying to be homer (maybe I am), do you think this is the year they will win it all?

P.S.

I even had a bet with my friend. AUD$50.

I think at this point its ours to lose. There I said it. Aside from SA I don't think there is a major threat to us. Moreover, on paper we are the best team in the NBA, and by record we are the best team in the NBA.

^ agreed.

The Spurs is the only series that would go 7. But truth is, there is not a team on this planet that plays with such fire. Thank you Mr. Garnett.

It's going to be a great 2008

Yes, we should win it this year...although there are two monkey wrenches that could derail us:

1- injuries

2- the trade deadline...if one of our competition adds someone like Jason Kidd/Mike Bibby/Pau Gasol,etc.-it could dramatically change our road to a championship.

i think that a championship window is never guaranteed and this year we are suprising a lot of teams and we are playing with a burning fire. My point is that next yr everyoneelse will re-tool and have a better idea of how to play us so if we are trying to get that ring this is the best yr to try and get it. that is not to say that we wont have other chances but it will be much much harder. Look at Dallas they were supposed to win that yr against the Heat and the following season teams figured out how to beat them (Golden State) and their window now has shruk.
I think this is our year but the only way it happens is if we add a few more pieces. We need another vet pg to backup rondo so that Eddie can play off the ball which is where he is most effectvie and we need another big body so that Posey can play the 3 where he is most effective. If we add some pieces I think it will happen.

Yes PI, this is our year. I also have a bet on the C's winning it all but my bet is for $10 at 100:1 odds that I made the day before KG was traded. Lets just say I have a vested interest in the C's winning it all.

I think the Celtics have about as good a chance as any team in the league, which is really all you can ask.

Saying a team won't win the title (like your friends are saying) isn't really a bold statement. There are a handful of teams that good enough to go all the way. It's just a matter of everything coming together. It's a combination of talent, execution, health and luck. You need all of it to win it all. Hopefully the Celts will have it.

I used to say ECF was the best to hope for but I am becoming a believer.

Off subject but Phoolishly, does your avatar spin or does the flasing cause an optical illusion?

my feeling is this is a special year. I am not sure they will be able to capture the emotions next year that they have this year. its an amazing start for a first time team together.

they have enough to do it, IMO.

My opinion is and will remain that the Celtics could've better odds to make it to the NBA finals next season with a possible better bench and with Ray Allen and Garnett having one full season under their belt with the team. But, I feel also that there exist more pressure to realize that goal this season. There's pressure due to the fact that the Celtics could lose some important names at season's end.

1. Tom Thibodeau is signed only for one season.
2. James Posey signed a two year deal but has a player option after the first year. It's unlikely... But, the chance he could exercise it is there.
3. Eddie House is signed only for one season.
4. Tony Allen's option wasn't picked up, thus making him a free agent after the season.

These are the top four concerns for me personally. Still, the individual outcome of each separate case could be positive during the off season or so you hope for at least three out of the four scenarios.

Plus, Garnett could attract other free agents next off season if Ainge doesn't fill the two open roster spots during this season.

The roster isn't as bad as a lot of critics thought prior to this season. However, I still believe that it could become stronger or better next season. I mean the Celtics could land a veteran center upgrade over Pollard (one year deal) or an additional young big man to join Perkins. Perhaps, a veteran at point guard behind Rondo and Pruitt. Or a solid addition at power forward too. And Davis hopefully will continue his maturation into a key reserve.

At the start of the season I thought this would only be a dry run and we'd slow down after a fast start. But right now we seem to win even our "off" games. I'm much more optimistic about winning it all this year.

That said Detroit/SA which have dominated the finals for awhile still worry me. When they are on all cylinders in the playoffs they are both well oiled machines.
