Would you trade Ray for Marion?

Both are very good players, but are very different players. Ray can shoot the lights out and Marion likes to crash the boards.

Before KG, yes. After KG, no.

aw hell yes.

i'm a big marion fan. i think he would be great alongside Paul because marion can defend 3 spots, always taking the other team's best offensive player. plus he plays great without the ball; ray is having a tough time adjusting to that. i think paul is expending a lot of energy on the defensive end, and you can tell he's wearing down a bit.

i wonder if the suns would make that trade. ray has 3 more years, marion 2, and marion will want an extension (next year is his option). but ray would be pretty amazing on that team.

let's get this straight you wanna trade "THE REASON KG CAME TO THE CELTICS"? Then what trade KG? This just plain dumb. it's like saying wanna trade ray allen for lebron or kobe. not gonna happen. this team can't trade ray allen. PERIOD.

He's impressive when he guards guys like Tony Parker one on one (and does a great job), so that's cool. But how would he fit in the defensive scheme of our team? I think he'd stick out offensively because he can't create his own shot and because our offense is mostly half court. I'd say no now, because I like having a pure shooter on the team. But if a trade like that did happen, I wouldn't be suicidal about it.

I'm going to pass on this trade

I understand Marion is a great player, but he plays in a system where Nash allows Marions offensive side to be spectacular.

The other reason is that Marion has that option out in his contract, the celtics could risk loosing Marion from that point. Sure a sign and trade might happen but easier said than done.

I'll stick with KG-RAY-Pierce, we got this far

I like Marion but I think that he is also a little overrated as defender. Yeah it sounds great when you say that he can go out and guard a little man like Parker, so can Perk. The problem with Marion is that he can't really guard 4's and 5's.

So while he might lighten the load a little bit defensively on Pierce it is only going to put more pressure on him handling the ball and forcing him out on the perimeter if you continue to play the 3 at the 2-4 or more pressure and wear on Garnett if you force him to the 5. It also will put more on Rondo and turn the hole behind him in to a canyon.

This team essentially has a poor man's Marion in Posey. Not that he is the same caliber of player but he does simliar things. We don't really have anything else like Ray Allen that is why we miss him so much if he is out or not playing to his ability.

The Suns wouldn't do it anyway. Ray isn't that much of an upgrade over Bell that the Suns would make that move (and that's aside from the fact that Raja is a much better defender).

i think marion would be GREAT with kg and paul. he can play his natural 3 position for most of the game, creating mismatches at both the 3 and with paul at the 2 (both would be both bigger and stronger than the majority of the opposing players at those positions)

i was thinking about a ray allen for kirilenko trade after the garnett trade happened, but that was before ray even played a game. still though, i think it would have worked for both teams, and marion would be even better still.

not that keeping ray on the team would be a bad option. . . ..

before the season, yes

Now no.

We don't need more defense that badly over a consistent threat from the perimeter... wich I beleive Ray will get back to beign before too long.

Why would you trade Ray Allen, we need him when the playoffs starts he can shoot the lights out, he is just not playing well this past few games but i guaranteed you he will come back....relax celtics fans wer'e still NUMBER 1 in the NBA......GO CELTICS

I would do it. I think Ray is really having a hard time adjusting to being the third wheel.

i would rather trade ray allen for michael redd. i know mil traded away allen to give redd PT, but if we could trade allen for someone, i'd want it to be him.

he's not a No. 1 scoring option & would fit in well. just sit outside on the 3 point line all day.

NEVER! Ray is much more valuable in terms of what he does to our offense than Marion.

I think I have to consider it if Marion is extended on reasonable terms, especially sicne Marion can play SF and PP can slide to SG. Perk/KG/Marion/PP/Rondo is a dominant lineup defensively, and still sufficient offensively especially as Rondo develops his jump shot further.

TA's the sixth man and subs in for Perk. Lineup becomes KG/Marion/PP/TA/Rondo.

Pollard/Baby/PP/TA/House

Baby/KG/Marion/TA/House

Perk/KG/Marion/PP/Rondo

Solid rotation, even despite the fact I forgot Posey.

On the downside, we are already dominant enough defensively, Marion doesn't make us better offensively, and the effect of breaking up KG/PP/RA is unforeseen.

And in any event, Suns wouldn't do it IMO, a third team would have to be involved. They are set @ SG but not set in the front court.

agreed.
Marion is a great palyer, but can he create his own shot? Because he would have to on this team. I think Ray is catching a lot of flack right now, where personally I dont think we are playing to his strenghts. Why is Ray taking people off the dribble from the top of the key? Why are we not using him like Rip or Reggie and having him come off screens? Where is the pick and pop with him and KG? Where is our pg going to the hole, drawing in defenders and kicking it out to ray? Give this guy a break he can only do what he is allowed to.

I'd highly consider it and I consider Marion an overall better player, but Ray is just a better fit with the team when healthy. There's not much more the defense can do to improve, but the offense would struggle without a threat like Ray on the perimeter.

Agreed. No to Marion, yes to Redd.

Marion and PP play the same position and it would force PP to play the 2 when he's more effective playing his natural position. Marion wouldn't fit with KG & PP. We would need a shooter like Redd.

No thanks. Ray Allen is a playoff stud, while Marion sees his play drop off by a decent amount. Considering our entire bench really can't create for themselves either, Ray Allen's ability to create for himself (and others, though not special in this area...) is needed.

Leaving Marion in to play with our bench like we do with Ray and Pierce just wouldn't work.
