Do you consider him an essential part to the team/bench, one we should look into signing for a longer contract this offseason? Or do you think he's a replaceable "stop-gap" player we can replace fairly easily, via the draft or through another trade/FA acquisition? Maybe something in-between?

I'm not sure where I stand, to be honest. Some games he looks like an underrated component of our team, giving us instant offense and a "no conscience" attitude whereas players like Scal, Perk, Rondo, and Pollard seem afraid to shoot. Other times his "chuck and duck" style of offensive play gets on my nerves.

I just have a gut feeling that one of him and TA won't be on our roster next season. I generally like rooting for the underdog, but have a feeling he enjoys stat-padding (especially competing for defensive rebounds with other Celts when the other team is already back up the court) to drive up his value. I also get the impression he'll overvalue his self-worth to the team since our offense off the bench is so limited. I like the guy but would much rather have someone like Brandon Rush (who can play better at the PG spot and is already NBA-ready).

I hope I'm wrong on all that but it's the impression that I get. What do you think of him?

Eddie is a good bench player.
He can give the team a spark off the bench with his great 3 point shooting.

As for him being on the roster, i doubt it too.

Out of the 8 teams hes played for Eddie has only been on one team for more than one year.

I like house. I can tell you what i'm sick of from the Celtics bench players...pinching and kicking, pinching and kicking, pinching and kicking, at least he shoots the ball...it seems every bench player in our recent past loves to pass up open shots while trying to drive to the hole only to find out there is a 7 footer there that they cant score over (Scal in particular) so they pass it to the open man and that man does the exact same thing....i'm off my soapbox but I would love to have house and posey for another year...they make for a solid bench and are both a bargain right now. oh yeah and they both love winning.

House and Posey with solid Vet pg would make our bench a thing of beauty...maybe Pruitt can show his stuff soon enough and be a savior for us...here's to wishful thinking!

That's pretty much where I'm at right now, although I think it's virtually guaranteed Posey will stay with us beyond this season. There's nothing more frustrating than watching players pass up open shots (Scal's the poster child for this, as there's no doubt in my mind he doesn't want to be booed by the home crowd for missing).

Other times it seems like he's out there looking for his own shot. I generally have a core of guys on this team I really value or could care less about, but for some reason I go back and forth on House. Probably because he's so undersized for a SG.

Eddie is who he is. He plays with a lot of effort and confidence, his defense to this point has been much better than what we could have expected. He isn't a PG and he is a gunner. He is out there to shoot the ball if you want him to stop shooting you have to sit him down.

Can you win with Tony Allen and Eddie House as you back up guards is the question. Tony has to improve as a pg because Eddie is a better shooter off the catch. I know a lot of people have given up on Tony as a point and he does struggle but he has also shown that it can kind of come together. He has decent court vision, good passing skills, and great quickness when 100 %. What he needs to fix, specifically ball handling and being under control can improve, similiar to a shooting stroke, but he isn't 19 years old either.

At the money he is making Eddie can stay long term but if he kind of improves his stature in the league and someone wants to throw some real cash at him all the power to him. Tony is a little different because he is a defender and a scorer so you would like to keep him if you can but a team could certainly view him as a starter if they are thin in the backcourt and may go beyond what it makes sense for the C's to pay.

The interesting thing about this is that while teams did look to upgrade over Eddie they frequently spent more money and didn't. Obviously teams look for more of a traditional pg and have replaced him with Rafer Alston, who is an upgrade when his head is together, Rick Brunson, who is not, and Jason Hart in multiple stops and he sucks, Marcus Banks, I will leave that alone, and now NJ has used quite a cast anchored by Darryl Armstong to replace both House and Marcus Williams.

My hope is that Pruitt takes that back up PG role and we are able to keep both House and Allen for depth, as we seem to be one guy short right now.

If you can get by with using him as a 2 on offense and a 1 on defense, he can be a dangerous weapon for you. In terms of fit going forward, I don't relegate my thinking to Eddie and TA in the backcourt as I'm personally quite comfortable having TA play significant minutes at the 3 in a reserve role and obviously subject to matchups.

i love Eddie on the Celtics as a instant offense type player, spark plug, microwave, what have you, and i think he performs best when this is his defined role

i don't like Eddie as the point guard for extended minutes as he has been used over the last few games

we see how the offense suffers as we are forced to take shots deep into the clock and the style of play is often very frenetic and disorganized which correlates into a stagnant offense in terms of its production

as far as long term, i mean he has been on 8-9 teams in his career i think Nba general managers generally view him as easily replaceable

The thing is with Eddie house and Posey in order to maximize their effectiveness you need a pg that is a good penetrator and can find them for open looks. It seems through this many games in the season that this weakness is clear. No the sky isnt falling but there is room for improvement.

Having house bring up the ball is just pointless. Having TA bring up the ball is just scary. We have to have players that compliment each other well on our bench.

if he's not hitting his outside shot, he's pretty much useless. He doesn't uptempo the team is a careless passer and is a marginal ball handler. If he's having a cold shooting night, Doc would be wise to limit his minutes and use TA and maybe even Pruitt more if Rondo's out.

I like House and feel every contender needs a player like him who is lights out from three. He's not worth a big contract but he's definitely a key bench player. He must have one of the quickest releases in the NBA.
