Compliments of Chris Sheridan's new free Insider article, he states that Theo Ratliff, when bought out will likely be headed to PHX or Boston.

Also, we expect him to take a buyout in late February and then sign with a team needing extra size -- perhaps Boston or Phoenix -- for the postseason.

Do you think he left Boston on good enough terms to be our big man savior...if healthy enough? I feel after Kurt Thomas, he would be a better pickup then PJ Brown, again, only if healthy to play every game at about 15 minutes a game.

If healthy why not... But is he healthy? Does anyone know how he's doing this year?

New update from ESPN as of Jan. 15

Status Alert: Ratliff (knee) has been cleared to do limited workouts and hopes to return to practice in three weeks, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "It's feeling good," said Ratliff. "I'm back up on it, I'm not getting much swelling, not getting much soreness." (Jan 15)

Minnesota hasn't been playing him, obviously because he's been resting a bum leg, but also, why would they play an old vet on a young team? Sounds like he could be rested for a playoff run. Just my thoughts.

id love this. Theo was always one of my favorite players(i love shotblocking, good D Centers) when he was on the Hawks and i followed him through Portland and thought hed do GREAT here. . .
he would fit this team PERFECTLY imo.

Ratliff sucks, he hasn't been good since 2001. If you want another reason not to sign him then look at how many games he's played the last couple of years.

thats exactly what they said about Camby before last year

I just figure he can't do much worse than Pollard, who has done OK while playing, but Theo's ceiling to help this team is a lot higher than Pollard's. Theo, when healthy, can be the hard nosed type player we need in the playoffs that can grab some boards and block some shots....the things Perkins can't do night in and night out.

if you had a poll on the comparisons board 3 years ago, Camby may have been SLIGHTLY ahead of Ratliff, but not by much. Camby has only separated himself head and shoulders as an all-defense guy the past two years. . .

I think Pollard does not get the credit he deserves. When healthy he is a great energy guy. Just watching his foot work, his spacing, the little things; you can tell he knows what he is doing out there.

Theo Ratliff at the veteran min is steal. I believe you are having trouble understanding this. Or perhaps we should just keep thre roster spot open and hope Camby gets bought out, right? Remember, Camby is TWICE the player Ratliff is. Yea, thats the ticket.

Theo's been great from what I've seen when healthy, but that's the thing, only when he's been healthy. If he was healthy at the right time, then he would be a great addition, but I'd rather see the C's get someone who's a little less injury prone, instead of having two injury prone guys as the first two centers off the bench in Theo and Pollard.

Also, there's no need to compare Camby and Ratliff. We're just looking for a backup big and take 15-25 minutes. Same thing with the reserve PG spot. Don't write off a guy just because he's not an all star calibur starter. I'd love to have Theo when healthy and would rather have him over Pollard, but we could probably use a little more consistency than those two.

What numbers are you looking at? Camby is a much better player. Ratliff has never averaged a double double his whole career. Even in his best season.

Maybe you should read the first page before speaking. Someone else was comparing the two. I never said we could get Camby.

Dunno about Theo, he hasn't done much for a very long time. His D (albit maybe limited by injuries) was looking pretty average outside of the blocks.

It's like saying Iverson is a great defender because he got a lot of steals..

If he can still move, I'd like to see him back, but back and knee injuries in a C are a real worry.
