do you guys ever remember anything like this in modern pro sports??

two cities, where on any given night when they play in ANY sport it isnt a far reach to see a haymaker get thrown and all hell break loose. has there been a time when two cities went at it more in all 4 sports?? just wondering cause i sure as hell cant think of anything.

q rich has been doing that stupid bead bop thing since he and miles were in LA. it doesn't really have anything to do with new york.

and honestly, theres not much of this behavior coming from ny fans as there is from boston fans.

I love how jealous New York is of Boston. Seeing them cry makes me so happy.

It's always been a rivalry. It's nothing new IMO.

i knew hes been doing that since forever but its just MUCH more hatable now. i think ecerybody can agree on that one.

and obviously theres not much coming from NY. what can they say, honestly?? one city flat out DOMINATING the other, i just cant get enough of this.
the pats beat 5 NY teams so far, FIVE!!! and its gonna be 6 in a week and a half. knicks by 49. . sox have more tiles this century(and poised to keep it goin). . life is good my friends

You know, speaking as a Boston sports fan who lives in NY I hear far more from Boston fans flaunting wins over NY than NY fans bemoaning Boston teams.

I think coming out of the 04 world series, Boston fans have been unloading years and years of inferiority complex, and want more than anything to believe that NY fans are now suffering from the feelings Bostonians have finally released.

But it's just not true. We're just seeing what we want to see.

look at the way this superbowls going. doesnt it seem like the giants and the NY papers are playing the exacty role the sox played for so long to the yankers?? theyre going a little overboard down there imo

Well, I mostly see the Post on my daily subway ride, and they've never exactly been a paragon of balanced reporting. I feel like the Times has been a little better. In terms of NY media, you may be right. In terms of the fans I've talked to though, it hasn't been such a big deal. Certainly not like sox fans pre-2004.

Well, NY has more professional franchises than we do and they like to think that they win more than we do, but I think that you can argue that Boston is ahead in terms of championships per franchise per year. Maybe not, I don't know. I'm too lazy to research it thoroughly. But if you take the Yankees, Knicks, Jets, Giants, Rangers, and Islanders and put them up against the Red Sox, Pats, Celtics, and Bruins, which city has won more championships per franchise per year? I'm betting Boston, in spite of the Yankees 26 World championships.

The reason that New Yorkers love to talk about the Yankees, or the reason that they used to love to talk about them, before the Yankees became the most celebrated losers of all time in 2004, is that they held the Yankees forth as proof that New York was a winning town. If you take the Yankees out of the equation, then Boston KO's New York without question. But even if you leave the Yankees in, I'll bet Boston still comes out ahead. I'm willing to be proven wrong on this, if somebody wants to add up the numbers.

Now, it is true that Boston fans are a little bit more wrapped up in this than New York fans. But that's because Boston fans are (why not just come out and say it?) better fans than New York fans are. I'm not going to make NY fans out to be like Lakers fans who head for the parking lot during the third quarter, but NY fans definitely don't take things as seriously as Boston fans do, i.e., they are less "fanatical" than Boston fans, and worse fans (from "fanatics") of their teams than Boston fans are.

Maybe the average New Yorker is more well-rounded than the average Bostonian? Maybe New York fans don't need to care about their teams so much because they have the Broadway shows, and Wall Street, and the art galleries, etc.? It could be, but it's probably just that New Yorkers are lame.
