The Damon Stoudamire Buyout Saga is over.

The veteran point guard verbally accepted the Grizzlies

If you want to add Mighty Mouse to improve our defense you are going to be massively disappointed.

The best he can do is handle the ball, run the team, and hit an occasional jumper. And hopefully not be abused too badly on D.

I know he isn't a defensive player but he can't be any worse at the pick & roll defense then TA, House & Rondo. Can he be?

Of course Stoudamire is worse at pick and roll defense.

Now, if James Posey had played against Toronto, not only would the Celtics have had a mobile perimeter defensive Big (Posey is 6' 7" barefoot, probably 6' 9" in his Nikes); but it's a thing of beauty to watch Posey come from down low HARD to attack a pick and role, making it MUCH EASIER for the guard to do his part. Both of those defensive arts are lost with Powe, Scal and Davis; although they try, they just can't execute like James can.

Since the Cs are #1 in defense, I hardly doubt they are looking for defense.

Rondo and House are better offensive AND defensive players than Stoudamire.

Pruitt is better defensively, but more turnover prone and tends to shoot too much ( Pruitt takes 23% more shots per 40 minutes than Kevin Garnett or Paul Pierce, which is way too much for someone who doesn't shoot 55% like Garnett or get to the line like Pierce).

Stoudamire would be a clear insurance option on the Celts, considering he doesn't offer the D that Tony Allen does. He'd likely only see action if Rondo, Tony Allen or Eddie House is not available.

Personally I don't know that I'd want him on the team.

I would probably be happier with Duhon, who can at least play some D. And if you're trying to win a 2nd round playoff game or later, D is required, unless you're a big time scorer. Stoudamire won't be taking shots, if he does get on the court. His job will be to protect the ball. That's about it.

The reason we're the #1 defense is because most of our guys are good defenders. It's not our birthright our something. Addind DS would certainly hurt our defense. If he plays, of course. My guess is that he'd be the 3rd string PG anyway.

The only question right now is to what extent Danny wants Damon. If he thinks he'll help, he is ours.

If we were to sign Damon, what would our depth chart look like? I mean people are always talking about our lack of depth but obviously House and Posey are going to get their minutes. Then there's TA who as of late has played significant minutes and quite frankly has deserved every minute of playing time. And after that you look at Baby who I believe should see solid minutes every game. And lastly, what happens to Powe, Pollard, and Scal? are their minutes just cut out completely?

we're not getting cassell wihtout giving up a lot- pruitt plus more. I'm not saying I wouldn't trade for cassell but realistically stoudemire is the best we can hope for in terms of a veteran guard who can come in and contribute right away. yeah he;s not the big defensive guard we need but he can handle the ball and he can shoot and he will fit well with garnett pierce etc. I wouldn't be surprised if ray allen's game takes off with a guard like stoudemire who can get him the ball at the right time. I say sign him if you can

One question in regards to concerns about Stoudamire's defensive shortcomings:

What were people saying about Eddie House's defense before coming to Boston?

(I know Eddie hasn't been really good defensively, but overall he's been a net positive off the bench, which to me, indicates that his defense has been mostly passable. Who's to say that Stoudamire couldn't perform decent enough defensively to be an overall net positive for the team as well, while bring the extra element of a PLUS ball handler which we lack in our backcourt sans Rondo?)

Stoudamire's agent, Aaron Goodwin, also represents Leon Powe, so I suspect that there will be good communication between parties if the Celtics are interested.

I suspect that the reason that Scal + Davis for Stoudamire + 2nd Rounder didn't go down was that Scal doesn't really fit in Memphis.

Memphis has:

C: Darko / Stromile Swift

PF: Pau Gasol / Hakim Warrick / Brian Cardinal

SF: Mike Miller

SG: Rudy Gay (actually an SF out of postion) / JC Navarro / Casey Jacobsen

PG: Mike Conley, Jr. / Kyle Lowry / Mighty Mouse

The Celtics also probably realized that, although this was an opportunity to dump the next two lux tax years of Scal's contract, that:

1. Rondo and House are better than expected, plus Tony Allen recovered well from his injury.

2. Scal still can cover the mobile PF's on the perimeter

3. Davis is better than expected

Actually Celtic Thug was the first to say KG was coming to the C's...but he got carried away with his sudden online "fame" and subsequently posted a lot of things that didn't happen,only cause they were rumors(which 99% turn out false)....but I do think he's friends with Tony Allen and Ryan Gomes....all in all,I think the guy got a raw deal because of his poor grammar and poor decisions on what he should post.

I don't know about Cassell and Stoudamire. They are okay on offense, but both are atrocious on D at this point.
