Well according to today's LA Times, the Lakers are no longer looking to acquire Kidd and there are no trade talks between the two teams. According to the Dallas Morning News the Mavericks don't want to give up what it will cost to get Kidd. So of the team's mentioned, the two that seemed most likely are already out.

3 other teams mentioned in the article don't make much sense. Nuggets, Spurs and Suns. I think that the Spurs and Suns are pretty set at the starting point guard position, and have very little that they would be willing to part with. A nuggets team of AI, Kidd, Melo, and Camby seems scary on paper, but the only move they could make would be to return Kmart to NJ. Something I don't think the Nets would be interested in. It's also not clear how that team would operate. AI and Kidd both need the ball to be effective, Kidd passing to AI for pullups coming off from screens isn't the best use of AI's abilities.

So that leaves the Cavaliers as the only team that seems to have a real need for Kidd and are willing to pay the price. The problem with the Cavaliers is that they don't have the assets that the Nets want. Larry Hughes doesn't have a place on a team with VC and RJ. Boobie Gibson is good for a young player, but he doesn't make enough to match salaries, and isn't anywhere near Kidd's value. Who's left to trade? Varejao, Gooden, or Big Z, all bigs. Is Cleveland willing to let a couple of those guys go, and are they enough for NJ?

The Nets are discussing a complicated three-team scenario with the Mavericks and Blazers in which Kidd would go to Dallas, league sources said.

In return, the Nets would get back young players (Jarrett Jack and Travis Outlaw), expiring contracts (Devean George, DeSagana Diop), Jerry Stackhouse, draft picks and cash. More players, including other Nets, would be involved.

That's the three-way deal proposed. Still not exactly sure what Portland would be getting. I've heard Devin Harris mentioned.

ESPNNEWS "Lebron wants Kidd"

LeBron makes a great case in that article. If NJ gets expiring contacts and picks, it's a good move for CLE. They could back in the finals easily. LeBron is just flat out amazing and if he was free to move more w/o the ball it would be sick.

I guess we should be hoping it doesn't happen, but man that would really get the EC playoffs to a fevered pitch this year.
