I thought of a perfect trade today while driving home from the at&t center.

Tony Allen + Scot Pollard

For

Fransico Elson

Before you say to yourself, "no freaking way! Tony Allen is good! Elson sucks!" I want you to think about a few things...

a) Spurs need a slasher not named Manu or TP. They also could stand to bring in a solid young player considering how old they are..
b) Elson is in Popp's Doghouse. Players rarely get out of popps dog house (please see Beno Udrih, and malik rose)

Boston needs an athletic center who is active on both ends of the floor. After watching elson play on a consistent basis it's CLEAR that he would fill that void. he's an athletic 7 footer who does a good job playing next to a superstar.
Elson played an important role on a championship Spurs team last season. This year he's wasting away on the bench.

I'm not sure RC Buford would disrupt the team as it is, but with SA playing so poorly right now it COULD be the rare time that he pulls the trigger on a pretty big deal like this...

The deal would look even better if Boston was able to bring in Cassell.

Edit: Why use Tony as a chip now, when he is clearly getting better as the season progresses? I think I see Elson as the Spurs would see Pollard; He doesn't play on your team, why would we want him on ours?

and i wouldnt exactly call that a big deal. itd be important to us, but not much more people out there wouold give a damn

I'm failing to see how this trade benefits the Celitcs.

When are you going to post it? Because this Elson trade is awful, huge downgrade. Elson is no better than Pollard, probably worse and he's not worth Tony by any stretch of the imagination.

I wouldn't do it, as TA is getting better and better (read: healthier) as the season goes on.

Also, do KG and Elson still hate each other? I seem to remember a pretty nice hatred towards each other in the playoff series in what was it; 03-04?

im good with our team as it is...i like tony allen and maybe giving him up in a deal like this is too much.....but fransico elson is a good fit for the celtics. he's not awful. he's not even close to being awful. trust me on this one...he makes noise out on the court.

okay so maybe giving tony allen up is too much. what else could we do to make this work. they aren't taking on scal in this trade because they already have bonner.

Well I don't know. I obviously haven't seen the same Elson that you have. To me he seems like a run of the mill tall-guy with little to no offensive skills. But I would have said the same thing about Nazr before he went to the Bobcats and started posting ridiculous stats as a starter. (I think he's come down from that now, so maybe it was just an aberration.) How much of an upgrade over Perk would Elson be? Is it worth it while keeping in mind that we need a slasher and backup SG more than the Spurs? I don't think so. So even if Elson turned around like Nazr did for the Bobcats, I don't think I'd do the deal.

Not every position needs to be filled with THE perfect piece this season. Elson is a free agent after this season, right? Why the heck would you be desperate to toss assets at getting a 31 year old fringe rotation player who is going to be a free agent?

no way man! why give up TA and another player for elson when we lack depth?

Acquiring Elson = not a bad idea in general, if feasible.
Trading Tony Allen for Elson = horrible idea.

I am in agreement with this sentiment.

Also everyone please if you are one of the ones who have been **** on Tony Allen now is not the time to stop. Look you did it out of love for the C's and frankly I think it is working. Call him names talk about how he sucks and we should trade him for anything it seems to be working.

As someone who generally praises him and blows smoke up his ass only to have him play like a turd for two months till I give up and then watch him turn it around, I am thinking about resorting to the rod myself.

Tony you suck, now drop 20/5/5 and lock up the entire Dallas backcourt.
