Lakers Just Became the Best Team in the League

Post#1 » by return2glory » Fri Feb 1, 2008 8:47 pm

First off, some people here aren't going to be happy about this.
Second, **** Chris Wallace.

IMO, the Lakers just became the team to beat.

SF: Odom
PF: Gasol
C: Bynum
SG: Kobe
PG: Fisher

They are also deep with Farmar, Mihm, Walton, Sasha, Radomovich, Ariza, and Turiaf.

IMO, they now have one of the best front courts in the league, if not the best. They also have Kobe in the backcourt.

The Lakers also have a better coach than us. That's another edge.

We need to somehow get get Cassell.

The Commercial Appeal also reported that the Grizzlies are sending Stromile Swift to the New Jersey Nets for center Jason Collins. The Grizzlies and Nets have been discussing that deal for the past week and expect to finalize it on Monday, according to the report.

Memphis gave away Gasol to make room for Jason Collins?

How are the Collins twins still in the league? They both suck.

Again, **** Chris Wallace.

my opinion

fisher >= rondo (Laker slight advantage)
kobe >> allen (big Laker advantage)
odom <= pierce (slight Celtic advantage)
Gasol < Garnett (Celtic advantage)
Bynum >= Perkins (slight Laker advantage)

key bench players

Ariza, Farmar, VladRad > Posey, house, TA, powe

advantage Lakers

The Lakers won't have anywhere near the defense the C's do.

Bynum should be back in about 6-8 weeks.

Or Spurs. Or Pistons.

Lakers are definitely a very good team, but we've blown them out twice and until they play D at an elite level...there's really no reason to believe they are better than the Spurs, Celtics or Pistons. A lot of potential and an already very good team, though.

Phenominal move by LA, can't believe the Bulls didn't jump in considering the mediocre price LA paid.

I wouldn't go so far to say they're the best team in the league. But they're definitely a contender now, which they weren't before this trade went down.

I was hoping the Lakers would wollow in mediocrity for years to come, and then they started winning some games this year. But even that didn't bother me, because I knew there was no way they'd get past the Spurs, Suns, etc. in the playoffs. Now, if Gasol can gel with his teammates, they've got a legit shot, and I don't like that.

If you are going to give "big laker advantage" (which I agree with) for Kobe vs. Ray, you've gotta give KG a big advantage against Gasol.

Oh, and Paul Pierce is a hell of a lot better than Lamar Odom.

Doc Rivers will get out coached by a 5th grader in a 7 game series.

You all need to relax. This trade makes LA only slightly better. Gasol is a much better player than Kwame, but he's going to be like option 3 or 4 on the Lakers. He's not going to get nearly the touches that he got in Memphis. So what are the other ways he'll contribute? He's not a substantial upgrade on the glass or defensively over Kwame Brown.

This makes the Lakers a lot better, but don't overreact, it's not going to put them completely over the top. They should be a very good team now, however should be soft defensively. I personally hope for some success for the Lakers, since a Celtics/Lakers final would help ratings for the NBA so much and I'd love to see the C's take the Lakers out themselves. Bring back the rivalry.

The Lakers absolutely stole Gasol, that's true, and I'm so glad Wallace isn't our GM anymore for more reasons than just this. How did the Bulls not get Gasol if this was all the Lakers gave up for him?

I still think the Hornets will win the West, Lakes may win the Pacific though.

Maybe we should watch them play a game or two before we make such bold predictions. Clearly they're improved, but it's not like that just picked up Shaq in his prime. Maybe the next move is Odom for Kidd. That would scare me.
