How serious is KG's injury?

Found this interesting.

Del Harris: Take Abdominal Strains Seriously

So, anybody have any inside info on KG's abdominal strain? Doc did not put a timetable on his return. In effect, he is out indefinitely. Could he miss 21 games like Shaq did?

If he needs time to recover, I think he should take it. No sense aggravating a pretty treacherous injury like the one he has right now.

Garnett most likely is out for tomorrow night

Yep, screw the win/loss record. We need to make sure he's 100% for the playoffs and doesn't have any lingering issues. Besides its been fun seeing Powe get so many minutes. It will probably benefit us in the long term.

Im over it. It just seems like alot of poster feel the need to bash Al when complimenting KG. KG is a great player and deserves props, but Al is better in my eyes and eventually you will see it.

Kingly, you are the man. Don't forget this is the guy who gave us the info 3 days before anyone else had it about the trade. Kingly keep on coming here. I hope all and the wolves keep winning to. Big Al is nasty.

I don't think people feel the need to bash him, but need to describe the difference between KG and Big Al and what makes KG better. Because it's clear that people still have a tough time distinguishing the difference because things like help defense and leadership don't come up on ESPN box score.

The problem always has been that people just take the things Al's good at (scoring and rebounding) and use that as be-all-end-all measurement for basketball players. Just look at what KG's done to this team. Do you honestly think AL is the better player because he's scoring and averaging more rebounds per game right now? If you can't tell the difference, then I don't know what to tell you...

Al is probably the favourite non-celtic player for the majority of celtics fans on this board. And a lot of fans will root for him wherever he plays including me. I have been one of his biggest fans when he was here and still am, his skill set is special.

But your agenda of coming here and putting KG down is ridiculous. Al is a very good player but at this point he isn`t as good as KG, who is a top 5 player in this league...

I have no problem with you saying Al is better everybody has their own opinion but don`t come here and disrespect one of the best players to ever play the game.

I love Big Al and think he'll have a bright future. But we need to support our current team and players. Hopefully Al will find his way back to the C's once his contracts up though.

FWIW, Shaq had a similar injury about a decade ago (in one of his first years as a Laker, pre-title) and it nearly ended his career. Before you panic, it was a lot more severe than Garnett's, but the point is that resting him right now is the correct move, for as long as it takes for him to get back to 100%. You don't screw around with core muscle injuries.

Ah yes, the Del Harris article talks about precisely the injury to which I refer. Didn't know about Jerry West, that's kind of neat. Harris knows what he's talking about in this case, that's for sure; treating this very seriously is about the best thing the Celtics can do and I'm glad they're not foolishly chasing a better W/L record; they're on pace to top the East anyway and that bid will only strengthen with a fully healthy and well-rested Garnett later in the season.

Also, kingly, unless you mean to say that Al Jefferson is a better prospect than Garnett on account of his youth, then you're absolutely off your rocker.

Garnett is the superior rebounder and passer and a comparable scorer, and also evidences the ability to play elite defense even against centers... Jefferson doesn't touch Garnett as a player unless you're viewing him through the lens of age-based potential. He's a fine player right now and has a great deal of potential because he's so young, but to come in and say that he's better than Garnett (who is himself at the worst a top 5 PF all-time) is just ridiculous.

EDIT: Hmm, Malone, Pettit, Garnett, Barkley... He's top 4 unless you consider Duncan to be a PF, which only serves to further enhance my point. Even if you stretch the top 5 to include Dirk, Garnett's still there. You're talking about a former MVP, a guy who has a legit chance to be DPOY this year, the guy who broke Bird's record for consecutive 20/10/5 seasons, one of only a handful of players to win the rebounding title four years in a row (with Moses Malone, Wilt Chamberlain and Dennis Rodman).

So yeah, you have to either know nothing about Garnett or be a complete homer or troll to prop Jefferson up over Garnett.

Thanks for the reassurance. Hopefully they rest him until the All Star game.

Yup. I see no reason to let him play in the ASG. Looking ahead to our schedule before the ASG, I think we can go 4-2 even without KG.

@ Cleveland - L
LA Clippers - W
@ Minnesota - W
San Antonio - L
@ Indiana - W
NY Knicks - W

They can put Hedo or Ray in his place.

kingly,

we need you to pull some string, i.e. have AL demand a trade bacx to Boston.

seriously though, i hope all is going well. while i am enjoying the current sucess of the celtics, i aint gonna lie, i still tear up every time al drops a gem (how about against NJ last week, damn? )

additionally, I am looking for an inside scopp. McHale probabbly had the best footwork of post player i have ever seen, and he had such an amazing feel for putting the ball in the hole. Al and him have some similarities in this regard. So my question is, has Kevin stooped by to give Al some tips?

How serious is KG's injury?

This serious:

I can't believe the Herald would put this pic as a header to their article. LOL... This has to be the most unflattering photo of a home team player I've ever see in a local newspaper.

How is Al better?

Garnett is a better defender
Garnett is a better leader
Garnett is a better passer
Garnett has won an MVP award
Garnett is one of the greatest
Garnett has more experience
Garnett has a better mid range shot

The only thing about Jefferson that is better right now is his youth/low post moves. Jefferson is not as good as KG RIGHT NOW. Garnett is a special player. How many million dollar atheletes would cry because they are losing and want to win so bad? Garnett is nuts...lol...he has an insane desire to win. No he hasn't won yet, but the best player he played with was Sam Cassel who was in his mid thirties. Will Jefferson ever have that? Maybe. Maybe describes the Celtics future had they not made the Garnett deal.

IMO, KG will be back in 1-2 weeks, especially if he is already swimming and running.

It's a little suprising that they are not having KG rest it. KG is actually working hard instead of just resting it.
