It is on ESPN as well. Nothing concrete. Not sure how this would help the Suns. Shaq is the complete opposite player of what style the Suns play.

PHX needs size. That said, trading Marion for him won't make them better, now or later.

I don't buy the rumor.

Shaq is perfect. He can stay on the opposite side of the court and just receive long-distance passes from Nash for easy buckets all game long.

At first when I read this I thought it was BS. But after thinking about it, it actually makes sense. Also I was reading the thread about it on the Heat board and several posters who apparently have legit sources said the deal should be done soon.

:::

I would do this deal in a second if I am Miami. They are going nowhere with this roster even if healthy and Shaq has their cap situation so clogged for the next couple of years. Wade and Marion would be a pretty nice duo but you always need to be aware of the Nash Effect in that he makes players appear a lot better that they actually are. And Banks might get it one day.

I don't know what to think about this. Shaq's on my fantasy team, so if he stays on Miami there's a chance that they bench him for the year in order to tank, which would suck. But if he goes to Phoenix I don't know how much time he will see or if he will fit in at all. He'd certainly give the Suns a weapon against the new look Lakers, but the Suns would have to totally change their team. Maybe the Steve Nash effect will greatly enhance his stats.

C Shaq
Pf Amare
SF Hill
SG Barbosa
PG Nash
Pretty good team with a big 3/4 of their own.

Why the heck would PHX trade Marion for Shaq. Makes no sense and therefore would never happen. ESPN wants ratings.

1) A lot more places than ESPN are reporting it.

2) Reasons:

Obviously they aren't getting anywhere with the current team and Marion is apparently a bit of a malcontent. He demanded a trade in the offseason and he may opt out at the end of the year. He's also their highest paid player. They can also dump Banks' awful deal.

Benefits of trading for Shaq:

He's a great passer.
He's massive.
When healthy and motivated he can be dominant.
He gives the Suns big time size up front.
Even at 30% he can still rebound and score in the post.
He can be a great defender.
The Suns don't have to change styles for him, you don't see a five man break a lot.
He is a good guy.
He brings toughness.

Shaq is the guy that could get the Suns past the Spurs, Jazz, Hornets and Lakers. I think trading for Shaq would improve their title chances, and as a Celts fan I'm far more worried about facing a Suns team with Shaq than a Suns team with Marion considering our lack of size.

Please no.... please? As if watching the Pats tank the SB wasn't bad enough, I'd hate to see my second favorite BB team make such a **** trade. Shaq makes NO SENSE for PHX at all. Plus he's still injured, and who knows when he's going to play anyway?

This deal is so out there - I think its bound to happen. It's always the deals that surprise people that seem to go down. I couldn't imagine the Gasol deal either..

Marion and Banks for Shaq? Don't understand the appeal for the Suns. I thought it was just Banks for Shaq.

Bucher is reporting Shaq is going to PHX for a physical tomorrow. Reading both boards, it looks like this deal is done. I think it's a good deal for the Suns, and I don't wanna have to face them in the Finals.

The Shaquille O'Neal trade to the Phoenix Suns is not a rumor.

In fact, I expect it to happen sometime early afternoon on Wednesday.

O'Neal will be in Phoenix on Wednesday for a physical, according to a Suns team source.

The Suns have moved Wednesday morning's shoot-around, which was originally scheduled at 9:45 a.m., to 4:45 p.m. - hours prior to their contest against the New Orleans Hornets.

The Suns will part ways with Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks and move to a conventional style with O'Neal playing the 5.

Marion is going to opt out anyway - he wants a max deal like JJ - plus the need SOME salary to get closer to Shaq's numbers. Banks makes about the same as Scabs - come on now.

Phoenix is changing up. they are sick of being the little guys and getting muscled around. Now they can field legitimate teams size wise.. Clearly what they were doing before wasn't going to get them a championship. this is a really interesting move..

As good as Phoenix is, they have a bunch of cheap owners. They do not like going over the luxury tax. Thats why they traded Kurt Thomas away. They don't want to resign Marion to a hefty long term deal. Then again, this deal doesn't help out either teams anyways. Shaq is on the decline. I doubt he fits to what system Phoenix has.

How does adding shaq and his contract make them a better team, it doesnt. i am a phx fan i live in scottsdale less then 10 mins out of phx, i cannot see dantoni oking this, and sarver doesnt want to add contracts for next season, we could have gotten gasol for Marions opt out/expiring and atlanta's pick and a future phx first if they wanted a big.
