Celtics or Suns fan?

Post#1 » by DorfonCeltics » Thu Feb 7, 2008 7:09 pm

Well I was over on the Suns board and I noticed that our very own Spin Move started a thread over titled "Fire Steve Kerr".

http://realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=759006

So I open the thread to see what it was all about and was amazed at how Spin Move refers to the Suns as "our" team when talking to other Phoenix posters.

I know he lives in Arizona and has every right to be a fan of the local team but that doesn't mean he should refer to them as "his" team. I have a friend who lived in Portland for a year and still follows the Blazers pretty closely but he will always bleed green. It must be nice being a fan of both the Eastern and Western conference leaders.

Now I've also heard him refer to the Celtics as "us" or "we" so what I want to know is which one Spin? Suns or Celtics? Who do you root for if it's Boston/Phoenix in the Finals?

I noticed this as well. I'm not sure this warranted a new thread. I'm sure a lot of people have several favorite teams. I myself can't but to each their own I guess. Not a big deal IMO

For the record, I wasn't trying to be antagonistic here I was just wondering where Spin's allegiance was and giving him a little ribbing at the same. Spin, I'm sorry if it came off in a malicious way.

You know, DorfonCeltic didn't mention anything about Spin Move being a moderator in his post. Believe it or not, mods are posters too and are subject to criticism for their posts as much as any other poster.

This whole "us (the mods)" v. "them (regular posters)" mentality has got to go.

Getting back to the original post, Spin Move is double dipping!! Who knew!

While I certainly agree that time could have been better spent, you have to admit that the mod in question is often very 'snooty' in dealing with posters. That tends to rub people the wrong way. And that is when he isn't playing hall monitor.

WTB, Dorf didn't put the man on the blast and he didn't say anything out of line. How does that constitute an "attack"?

Moderators are just normal posters with additional responsibilities. That means they play by the same rules. What is good for the goose is good for gander. Spin can reply or choose to ignore him.

How many times did you, personally, refer to me as an "Al Jefferson Hater"? How many times did you insinuate that I wasn't really a fan of the team because I didn't worship at the Holy Shrine of Low Post Scoring with Al Jefferson as the reigning diety? What about when you hijacked the thread on giving someone else on the board a compliment and you intentionally gave me a back-hand compliment in which you somewhat questioned my loyalty to the team?

Personally, I understood the strain all the losing was having on people and I didn't take it to heart. That being said, I didn't consider those 'attacks' but I did find them uncalled for, though. Now, as a moderator, your first and most important duty, perhaps, is to lead by example. That is what got you the position in the first place.

So, if you didn't consider you behavior towards me constituted an 'attack' then why call out Dorf when his questioning of Spin's loyalty was much more mild and a hell of a lot more tactful? I would have done this via PM but I think it important that Moderators be held accountable.

Actually as I have stated on this board before, I am a big suns fan, I root for the celtics when both teams play, but I grew up in Kansas where there is no local NBA team when the bird era celtics were tearing things up, I have lived in Arizona for almost 8 years now and am also a suns fan, I am a proud sports bigamist. I will be at the Suns celtics game the 23rd I believe (as long as my friend keeps thier word to give me their tickets for that night) and I will be wearing a Paul pierce Jersey lets put it this way, I like and follow the suns but don't own a piece of suns merchandise or clothing. I am a bigger Celtics fan then suns to answer your question, which is a reason im a mod of this board and not that one.

Pogue has some good points but I'm not going to get into that now. I've already PM'd with WTB and he agreed to unlock this post if I explained myself more. I was never trying to attack Spin I just wanted to give him some **** and bring up some interesting conversation. I more thought it was funny he was referring to himself as "we" on the Suns board when he's a mod over here. I just wanted a clean explanation on where his alligence stood. Now I know.

Which doesn't completely dismiss the fact that your posts, in the past, towards me were most certainly antagonistic. I don't harbor any animosity but I do find the assertion that someone who was firing a shot over the bow of the S.S. Spin as being antagonistic a bit hypocritical.

I mean, if you are moderator (not you personally), you were chosen to be moderator (and accepted the position) because of an exhibited and consistent adherence to posting to a conformed standard. If a moderator doesn't play by the rules or attempts to operate above the rules, they should be treated in the same manner as Joe Dink, Message Board Flunkie.

Better said, who is policing the moderators?

Bleeding Green, for one, has gotten funnier as he became a moderator, imo. I haven't seen much change, else-wise, in his postings. Quality all the way around.

Other moderators, well, they get a bit too full of themselves and feel their back-waste doesn't stink because of the cute little icon under their name. They know who they are and the rest of the board does, as well.

So, WTB, are you a facilitator of inappropriate behavior coming from mods or do you promote a higher standard, regardless of post count? Because if it is the latter, you have gone against that on more than a handful of occasions. How can someone be held accountable for being late to class if the hall monitor is taking a smoke break in the boy's bathroom?

To be completely frank, all signs point to the former, imo. On multiple occasions you have attempted to you use your position as a moderator to influence the board against posters and to play favorites. Do you really think that is moderator worthy?

Being a moderator isn't an easy thing. I know. That being said, as often happens, posters that become moderators stop posting quality and start allowing other things to influence their decision making. In the case of Darth Celtic, he openly mocked visitors to OUR board and hid behind his 'power' as a moderator. He was the classic example of a troll, imo. Sure, he may have been a valued poster once upon a time but that was long ago.

So, WTB, if Dorf addressed me in a thread as saying "Al Jefferson Hater", I have a hard time believing it would have elicited the same response from you as this thread did. And don't get me wrong, I think you are a good poster. I just think a couple of the mods on the Celtics forum need to chill and get off their high horse. Things are more user friendly nowadays with no Darth, as far as I am concerned.

It is not a RealGM issue, either. Five minutes at Das Celticsbloggen will show you what crappy moderators do to a forum. Don't be a Roy Hobbs.

Of course it wouldn't. There's a difference between saying someone hates a certain player when they clearly aren't a big fan of that player and starting a thread to say Spin Move shouldn't be allowed to be a mod of the Celtics board because he's not a Celtics fan.

You've really overreacting to the whole thing. Dorf said something he shouldn't have said, I told him to stop. We discussed it in PMs, he told me he didn't mean it the way it was written, he cleaned it, it's over.
