With Kidd Trade Could or Should We Get Stackhouse
It looks like a key part of the Kidd to Dallas deal is to buyout Jerry Stackhouse.
Since he can't resign with his team for 30 days (the Gary Payton rule). Should the Celtics go after him? Would Stackhouse even be interested?
I am interested in what people think.

Given that, I take him if he has limited ego and expectations. He's too good a player to pass up at the vet min, and we get better partially by preventing our competition from signing him
He can re-sign if he is waived.
But, then that's not a buyout.
That's paying him his remaining salary due,
hoping no other team claims him off waivers, and
then Dallas can re-sign him.
Very unlikely.
If I'm a Western conference rival I claim him off waivers,
even if he doesn't want to report,
just to Keep Stackhouse from re-signing with Dallas.
And, another little tidbit the trade promoters don't mention.
The deadline for setting playoff rosters is March 1.
That's means Stackhouse wouldn't be eligible for Dallas' playoff roster.

He already said he's going back to Dallas if he's a part fo the deal:
"Stackhouse added that he may be able to rejoin Dallas within 30 days, an indication the Nets would buy out his contract.
"I feel great. I get 30 days to rest, then I'll be right back," he said. "I ain't going nowhere."

Any player waived BEFORE March 1st is eligible to be on a playoff roster, even if signed AFTER March 1st.

Stackhouse was on the team before so I wonder if that negates this playoff rule.
Also, I doubt anyone is going to pick up a crappy player like Stackhouse just so he won't sign with the Mavericks. Stackhouse is terrible.
Can you stop writing in poetry form? You don't need to doublespace everything and write each sentence on its own independent line. Please? Gracias.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if Stack just signed a three year deal in the off-season will they really just waive him? Maybe the last two years are team options.

There once was a poster named Jammer
Bleeding Green thought he was quite a clammer
he'd enter each sentence
with its own private penance
making him look like a spammer
Apologies in advance.....

(scratch this)
This is the rule:
The question when does a player have to be on a roster to be eligible for the post season?
Great point floyd. Unless Stack is agreeing to just void the last two years of the deal why the hell is NJ going to give him 15-16 mil to go away?
This is the rule:
Players who are traded and then waived by their new team cannot be re-signed by their original team for 30 days (during the season) or 20 days (in the offseason) following the trade.
