After watching the game tonight I would have to say the 2006 draft pick #21 rajon rondoand pick #49 leon powe was ainges best draft. 04 was also good with big al, west , TA and reed however veryone except TA isn't on the celts

2004: Al, Allen, West

Clearly its 04 based off of where we picked and what they have turned out to be.

got to be 2004 no brainer.

Big Al is a flat out stud, 04, West and Allen will all be 2nd contract players, Reed hung around the league for a while too, very good draft/

Taking a 20/10 legit PF in the mid 1st is pretty talented.

David West over Marcus Banks. Perk at #20.

I am fine with Big Al, TA and Delonte

David Lee instead of Gerald Green

Traded Foye for Ratliff that landed us Kevin Garnett

Gave up #5 for Ray Allen

Second rounders:

1.) Leon Powe
2.) Ryan Gomes
3.) Glen Davis
4.) Gabe Pruitt
5.) Justin Reed
6.) Orien Greene

I like the 2007 draft the best. Ray Allen and Big Baby. Nice.

One problem with calling 2004 the best draft Ainge had for the Celtics, it's true he got two great role players in West and Allen with the 24th and 25th pick which is pretty decent, but he could have had Kevin martin who was picked by the Kings with the 26th pick.

I agree that DA could have picked Martin, especially instead of West. If anyone remembers West was projected as a 2nd round pick and DA thought he was getting a diamond in the rough in West (he was wrong). West turned out to be what the scouts projected him to be.... second round talent.

I still say that 2004 was the best with picking Al and TA because we still have TA and Al turned out to be great and DA was able to turn Al into KG.

I think 2006 has been Ainge's best draft class.

Rondo is already playing at an 'all-star' level. It is just obfuscated by the lack of touches and the offense running predominantly through three other players (Pierce, Garnett and Allen) much of his time on the floor. 21st picks, overall, are normally projects or players with limited upside. Rondo has the potential to be a top-5 PG in the league.

Powe has been playing at just below 'starter' level for the better part of the last year. That he was chosen 49th in the draft is an absolute steal.

Rondo is not playing at an all-star level. not even close.

Agreed, I am very happy how hes developing but Im not sure if he will ever be an all star player. He is what this team needs though.

Like 30 guys make the all-star game every year. I think Rondo is one of the 30 best players in the NBA.

At the very least he's not 'not even close.'

Not to hijack the thread but 'all-star' level is much different than being 'voted to all-star game'.

Powe > Al
Rondo > West or Allen

Clearly I agree with thread.

Al is the best low post scorer and is a great rebounder. He is way below average at everything else. Powe does more for this team than Al did.
