OT - Possibly some serious retooling in NJ

If there is substance to the accounts surrounding NJ, it is plausible that the Nets could field the following roster soon:

D. Harris
M. Williams
R. Jefferson
M. Miller
D. George
D. Diop
J. O'Neal
S. Swift
J. Boone
M. Ager
A. Wright

plus some extra #1s...

I'd be impressed; there's a team that can compete now and has tremendous upside.

I think that team stinks. Where is the upside?

No kidd and no Carter and they are adding an aging and sour J Oneal to the mix? That's a bad team.

Devin Harris and Marcus Williams at the point is mediocre. Jefferson needs Kidd to thrive.

They are stuck between 30 and 43 wins with that team. That is not upside.

Thorn's an idiot. Either keep Kidd and trade for JO and Miller or rebuild. After years of not being able to compete with Kidd because they didn't have a legit big, he's gonna trade Kidd and then finally get a legit big?!? That's just dumb. The only sense this makes is JO's deal is shorter than VC's.

On another note, why would Indiana want to trade JO for VC? What the h3!! does that do for them? Bird is a lousy GM.

Oh, and if the Kidd deal goes down, Wright will be in Dallas and apparently so will George.

I think Devin Harris and Marcus Williams are both above average point guards.
Mike Miller and Richard Jefferson are a pretty good 2/3 combo.
I think Jermaine O'Neal would do well with a change of scenery. And the Pacers would finally be rid of him.
Diop is decent (a lot of people on this board would be happy with him).
Antoine Wright and Maurice Ager are decent young players.
Josh Boone is alright. Devean George is cap relief and nothing else.
Stromile Swift might actually put all that natural talent into use (unlikely).

In the east that is a decent squad, though I agree not a huge amount of upside. Is Sean Williams included in any of these potential trades? Because in a few years Devin Harris and Sean Williams could potentially a pretty nice little duo.

(Not to nitpick, but Wright was traded to Dallas in a separate deal)

The roster isn't bad though. They may only get an 8th seed in the playoffs, but who knows about the future.

I think Devin Harris and Maurice Williams could be a good young point guard rotation. Kidd is great but he's old anyways.

Plus they'd have O'Neal, S.Williams, Diop and Boone at the bigs with Jefferson, Miller and Ager at small forward and shooting guard.

You pretty much said it all. Getting JO would be incredibly backwards at this point. Its not like him and Vince are suddenly gonna go back in time when they were both 27 and in their prime. Both of them are forever injured now and they would just be adding on salary to sit on their bench for half the year.

If/when they trade Kidd they need to just keep on going with the bulldozer and blow that thing up. They had a nice lil run for two or 3 years there but they need to start over asap. No sense in delaying it anymore.

J. O'neal would be traded for Carter in this scenario. At least that's what the rumor's say.

Richard Jefferson will lead the league in scoring with this team.

Thorn is one of the best GM's around.

People are saying he is a bad GM - FOR TRADES HE HAS NOT EVEN MADE.

Sounds like the same people who said DA was the worst GM in the L last year - and who are now all over his jock.

That team (as listed) sucks - ya - as long as JO is hurt - BUT JO IS ON INDY!!!

We know he hasn't made them, but talking about them in itself is stupid.

Thorn is overrated anyways, he was way to conservative, never made a move to push his team over the top. Should have gotten a legit big. A lot like Paxson in that regard.

Richard Jefferson will suddenly become only slightly above average once Kidd leaves...

Doubt it. Jefferson has always played well without Kidd. A few years ago, I remember he was putting up serious numbers while Kidd was out at the beginning of the season.

Devin Harris is a tremendous point guard. I think you can easily make the argument that he's better than Kidd right now (and he's ten years younger with still unrealized potential). Kidd has regressed a lot this year. Is it because he's on a crap team? Maybe. Maybe he's just old and a shell of his former self. He's certainly elite at setting up his teammates but even Rondo is a more efficient scorer. And Harris is one of the most efficient PG scorers in the game.

Harris
Jefferson
Carter
Williams
Krstic

Diop
two extra firsts
Swift

Pretty good stuff when Krstic comes back and is hopefully as good as he was in the past. Krstic/Williams/Diop/Swift is a slick enough bigman rotation. A Williams/Carter/Jefferson/Swift/Williams lineup would be a lot of fun to see run up and down the court.

The Nets may not be done. One source said they were talking to the Grizzlies again about Mike Miller for pieces including Bostjan Nachbar and Magloire.

The Nets haven't ruled out a Vince Carter-for-Jermaine O'Neal swap with Indiana, although O'Neal's nagging left knee injury is a major obstacle.

Harris is not better than kidd and never will be. Kidd is still an elite PG. Harris is a nice player, though a bit overrated by they way people think abut him.

I would say that Harris is in the 2nd tier of PG's in the NBA and moving up. I would also say that Kidd is in the 1st tier of PG's in the NBA and moving down. Just go ask San Antonio or Houston fans how good Devin Harris is. It's tough to judge a player you only see play a handful of times a year.

Talk about being an idiot...

Thorn is one of the best GMs in the league. Just because you don't know crap doesn't mean you are any kind of judge on GMs. FYI, the deal that was in place was for Harris, Diop, etc.

Since you obviously have no idea, let me teach you some stuff. Harris is one of the better PGs in the league. He doesn't have the name value of Kidd, so you may not think he's all that, but he's very fast, can score, is already one of the best defenders, still very young and is getting better. Kidd is better right now, but is on his decline and has been for a few years now. And RJ is young enough that having Harris to play with will help.

Now you say the Nets don't have a big time defensive presence inside? Diop, someone you probably never even heard of, is an excellent defender. He can rebound, block shots and is fast enough to stay with PF/C types while being big enough to bang with the real Cs. His offense is still pretty bad and most likely never be that good, but with Kristic, who's a pretty good offensive player and a poor defender, it works.

So now the Nets have essentially the same team with a real defensive center and maybe get a little worse at PG, but much younger with a lot potential. And you say Thorn is an idiot...

The fact you say this shows how underrated Harris is. You probably think Rondo's better than Harris, right?
