Francisco Elson available?

The Spurs don't make many major moves, but they are looking to deal Francisco Elson.

Well, this article comes from Sam Smith, but I believe him, anyway.

Elson is in the last year of his contract (which pays him $3M this season). Would the Spurs agree with an offer of Scal ($3M) and a 2nd rounder?

Successful Trade Scenario

Boston Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +1.6 ppg, +1.9 rpg, and -0.4 apg.

Incoming Players

Francisco Elson
7-0 PF / C from California
3.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.4 apg in 13.2 minutes

Outgoing Players

Brian Scalabrine
6-9 PF from USC
1.9 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.8 apg in 10.5 minutes

But let's face it, SA didn't get four titles by being idiots (I know, having Duncan didn't hurt either).

Scal and a 2nd rounder? It doesn't appear to be enough. Then again, if SA isn't using Elson maybe we can deal. He's a legit 7', strong, and scrappy. We could use a little enforcement, even if only to help keep Sheed's mouth shut in the playoffs.

what about pollard and cash? they are not going to take scabs when they can let elson expire and save $$. But pollard is getting what 1 mill and change? Why couldnt we just pay the rest in cash? do we have any trade exceptions?

No, we gotta keep Pollard. Doc says he's going to play. Besides, he's much better comic relief than Elson would be.

No one is going to trade an expiring contract for an additional 2 years of Scalabrine. I don't now why people keep coming up with trades like this because it will never happen. The NBA is all about finances.

elson would be a HUGE move for us. he's an underrated role player. it would be good to get this deal done b/c it'd give us a cheap effective big man.

although KG & elson do have some history.

Elson called KG a fagg-t when he accidentally hit him in the balls.

Ha! I'd forgotten about that one, but as with Perk KG may respect a guy who fights back--even though in this case the comment wasn't quite PC. If KG said he didn't care about it then, he probably really doesn't care about it now.

The Spurs already have a red-headed three-point shooting PF. (Theirs doesn't have man-boobs, though.)

A trade exception is only useful for acquiring a player whose ENTIRE salary fits into the exception.

The Spurs are right on the cusp of the luxury cap I think, so they aren't swapping expirings for more salary unless it is a major talent upgrade.

Anyone want to try and argue that tha Scal trade would be (with a straight face)?

You seem to know a few things. Why is he available at all?

in Popps dog house. once you're in popps dog house it's tough to get out.

I don't see the spurs dealing him. they have no reason to change a thing until somebody beats them in the playoffs.

Elson has been playing better as of late. i think elson and horry will start to play more and more down the stretch. they were both key in last years run.

but as of a month ago elson was available for a wing player. that's why i brought up the t allen for elson move. but since then the emergence of powe for us and Ime for the spurs sorta cancels out this deal. both teams are sitting pretty right now and dont really need to deal.

elson talk will be speculation only.

We just don't match up well trade wise with SA.

As for Scal it isn't that he is untradeable as much as you have to stop looking to deal him for less money. Look at guys who address this teams needs in the first 8 spots in the rotation and whether the money spent on them would be better than the money on Scal and whatever it will take to keep Tony for example.

An example of what I am talking about is Collison and Wilcox in SEA. they are kind of the same guy making good chunk of money. Is there really any reason that they couldn't give a bigger chunk of the mins to one of those guys and get rid of the money? How much is it going to impact them in the win/loss column?
