Cassell to Memphis?

The Los Angeles Clippers are trying to pry Mike Miller out of Memphis with an offer of expiring contracts that includes a package of Sam Cassell and Aaron Williams. The Grizzlies want the Clippers first-round pick in 2008, and so far, the Clippers are balking.
This might be good news, because Cassell wants to play for a contender, and the Clippers are trying to accomodate him with his wish. But if he is traded to Memphis, I would bet big bucks that he will be bought out immediately.

You can't be too sure about that.
I would certainly hope so.

I am pretty confident his agent would make sure he doesn't end up in a similar situation as with the Clippers. Cassell and his agent would force a buyout, or at least inform the Grizz before the trade that Cassell has no intent to play for them.

Anything that doesn't involve Donald Sterling giving up his cash sounds more likely to happen to me.

This would be GREAT new for the C's! Heisley (the Grizzlies owner) is maybe the only guy cheaper than Sterling in the entire NBA. If Cassell goes there as an expiring contract, you can be sure that a buy out will be negotiated in short order w/Memphis saving about $1 million and Cassell earning most of that back when he signs with a new team for the vet. minimum.

Yes, that's exactly the point.

Is the Clippers management (Please Use More Appropriate Word)? Why do they think that they can still win? Obtaining Miller is useless, and Brand is probably going to leave them asap

It could be just utilizing the value of expiring contracts and setting up for next year. Miller + Brand + Kaman + Thornton + lottery pick + maybe getting Livingston back could form a pretty good team.

I've always been afraid it could trigger an epileptic fit in somebody.

Memphis will have as many pg's as Atlanta has (had) SF's.
Cassell would be gone pretty quickly.

Would they keep Aaron Williams? Does he still play well enough for us to care?

if he goes, i don't understand why'd they keep him. they have like 4 serviceable young point guards or something...they need the minutes. they bought at damon.
he's going to get a buyout if that happens, do doubt.
the grizzlies are turning into the clippers lately. year after year, they can't win...even in the playoffs they can't win a single game!

memphis has 3 point guards in conley, lowry and crit plus they're rebuilding. they let damon go so i don't see any reason for them to keep sam.

And Navarro. I'd love to get Lowry or Navarro for Big Baby and get'em to throw in Pau's lil Brotha Marc Gasol.
