We need to make some trades for Big Man and Point Guard.

We're really thin on the frontcourt. I hate to say this but I think come playoffs time... we're gonna struggle.

The players I'd like to trade:

Kendrick Perkins
Eddie House
Gabe Pruitt
Brian Scalabrine
Scott Pollard

For Veterans Big....

We dont need to make a trade. We just need Doc to actually play a traditional frontcourt more often. I though if we had left Bib Baby in the game. We prob win the game. We are at our best when we get points in the paint.

We win both of the last two games if the Celtics could a stinking free throw.

Or play D.

Even if it was needed (and I don't think it is, personally. it's not a coincidence these type of threads pop up during MASSIVE 2 game losing streaks and not when we go 7-2 w/o KG--nor is it a coincidence a "trade Perkins" pops up when we play 2 teams that play at a pace that makes him ineffective...talk about reactionary), there's really no deals for the Celtics to make. They have no expirings and they can't trade their 1st round pick. Who is going to trade anything of value for Eddie House, Pollard, Scal and Pruitt?

Their best bet is to hope Cassell isn't traded and eventually gets bought out or hope that Cassell to Memphis deal occurs and Heisley is looking to save pretty penny by buying out Cassell.

what exactly are we going to trade?

if you haven't noticed, our only tradeable players are players that we couldn't get better players for.

we need to make a move to get better like the other top teams are doing out west. it may be a trade or a quality FA pick-up.

I agree with GregB, ultimately.

[long bad paragraph of trade ideas to follow]

But if we were to dangle our remaining tradeable picks ('11 1st + however many 2nds we can trade) Scalabrine, Pollard, and Pruitt...we could conceivably take back as much as 6.17 million in salary. Which...probably still couldn't get us squat. It's a sellers' market out there, with so many teams loaded with enough talent to make a run in the playoffs. But wait, we could also sign-and-trade McLeod and Kandi and add them to the mix. If we were to dangle (breath) Scalabrine + Pollard + Pruitt + however many picks we can trade + Kandi + McLeod, we could take back about 10.1 million. Getting interesting (albeit less realistic now) but still not much doable, unless you want mediocrity, which I don't, I'd rather get a somewhat star-quality player on a bad team looking to free up money. We'd barely miss out on Brad Miller (if he's even available, lol). I think Philly's hanging onto Daly, lol. We could maybe get Andre Miller? Probably not. (But I trust Rondo anyway). Oh god, it's the Knicks' Hoopshype page, look away, look away...whew, moving on...Holy ****, I got it: Antoine Walker. (No, but really, we probably wouldn't even to include any picks, or Pruitt, just the small $$$ savings created by a 125% combo would delight McHale, I think.) Errrm, what else...Gadzuric + Charlie Bell??? Man, there's slim pickings. Banks + Blount? ... (Doesn't even work $$$-wise, thank god) Hmmm...Troy Murphy??? I wonder. Joe Smith + Chris Duhon? Wait, wait, wait, Pollard's cap figure is half of what I thought...actually, I don't think that changes anything. The max salary we could take back with the above "mega" package is actually about 9.54 million. Oh, but hey, we could absorb an absolutely horrendous contract worth, say, 9.54 million and THEN we could use Delonte's exception to trade for a real talent who's within that exception's cap range. Continuing, though...(BTW, now I know why the caged GM sings, i.e., why the Spurs would have found Kurt Thomas enticing...oh, but speaking of...)...what about, oh god, Artest? We could actually bring back Artest. God I hope Presti both talked the Spurs into taking his scrub KT and mentioned to Sacto they should look at Boston. First remotely available player per reports that could work cap wise in this unrealistic package-of-scrubs-and-some-picks-and-oh-yeah-Pruitt! scenario who'd be a true impact player (if he doesn't unravel psychologically and sink the team's morale...well, that would be an impact, too). (If only we had a whole offseason for Doo to mold Fatass Curry into shape and send him to a motivational speaker like Matt Foley). Is NJ going to do anything with Diop? White Chocolate for backup PG, anyone? Kwame Brown? (shudders) Ummm....yeah, that's it. Okay, recapping:

Pruitt + 2011 1st rounder + any/all 2nd rounders + (maybe BBD?) +
Scalabrine + Pollard + Olowokandi + McLeod (both "S&T")

for

Ron Artest (doesn't fill a need but wtf why not...beyond the obvious)
Troy Murphy (could work at PF or C...not really a physical presence?)
Andre Miller (do we really need a full-time PG??? No.)
Antoine Walker (give him #88 back! and then #8 a week later!)
Sam Dalembert (not available I'm assuming, not for our half-crap)
Gadzuric + Bell (yeah, I mean, fine, but yawnnnnn...zzzzzzz)
Banks + Blount (ahhhhhahahahahahahahaha.....hahahaha!)
Joe Smith + Chris Duhon (meh, not actually half bad)
Kwame Br...nevermind
Eddy Curry + 6 straight weeks of the Scarsdale Medical Diet (lol)
Jason Williams (same question as Andre Miller)
Diop + whatever???

That's basically it, people.
That's the max of what's possible.
The best case scenarios, LOL.

Maybe I'm overestimating the confidence of some playoff-caliber teams, maybe there are other players available. Maybe we could get a kid like Warrick for taking on a dump like Cardinal. Maybe I'm overestimating the amount of salary a "sign and trade" for Kandi/McLeod would count for against the cap. I don't know. Finally too tired, going to sleep.

Phoolish, you have to change your avatar. The constant flashing is distracting. It was so distracting that I thought you said we should trade our junk for a quality bigman. When you can only do that when we have expirings. I don't see any expirings there. Also relax the Celts lost 2 close games against 2 very good teams.

House isn't going anywhere.

He's a hired gun off the bench, scoring great for someone with limited minutes. The Celtics will be lucky to re-sign House, 8% on $1.5 million may not be enough, even if they offer several years with raises. They are in danger of being outbid this summer. With Kurt Thomas to San Antonio, they will now have more of the MLE, if they need it.

Perk is a steal at $4 million per, signed for the NEXT 4 seasons. He's not going anywhere. Great value. Plays 24.3 mpg, knows his role.

There probably isn't a better Big that the Celtics can afford, although now that Dallas has traded Elison to New Jersey, he will be a free agent, but he also could simply go back to Dallas or stay with the Nets.

Tony Allen is crucial to the future, and will be with the team long term, most likely.

The only realistic trade pieces are:

Scalabrine
Pruitt
Davis
2011 First Round Pick
2nd Round Picks
Up to $3 Million Cash

Depth is crucial for the regular season, more so than the playoffs. The Celtics are not young. The top 9 or 10 players are where it's at. They only make a trade if they can replace someone with someone better in the top 10 (without giving up more than they get), or adding insurance men, like a Center or Point Guard.

Sheesh people we lost on a last second shot, big deal. In the real world most games are only decide by a few points.

I think we just need to sign 2 players, Gary Payton and PJ Brown. Like it or not they would add playmaking and height. But also playoff experience which our Center and Point Guard spots lack on our team.

Sorry mate.... I just can't. It goes with my nick.
This has been my avatar since I joined here and that was about 5 years ago.
I don't know why people only started complaining now?

Once again, that ship has sailed. Payton & PJ Brown would make Pruitt & Pollard look like all-stars. They both are done.

I think you are assuming too much man. They could still add something in backup roles. Its not like we want them starting on the team.

Perk/Brown/Pollard
KG/Powe/Baby
Pierce/Posey/Scala
R.Allen/T.Allen/House
Rondo/Payton/Pruitt

Of course, lose a couple of close games against 2 solid teams on the road and someone starts a reactionary thread right on cue. They could add some depth, but nothing is coming in that is going to make this team better.

Why don't the Celtics just resign Jo Jo White & Robert Parish. I'm sure they would sign for the vet minimum.

We lost on a last second shot. If the team had held the ball for the final shot, like we should have we wouldn't have even be talking about any trades. Everyone knows Perk isn't the best center in the world, he's probably solidly in the bottom 10 starting centers in the league, but we have nothing to trade unless we sign someone like Dana Barros out of retirement.

Who knows, maybe Pollard will start playing again. He seemed like he was an okay backup when he played earlier in the year.

I tend to agree with cfan79 here. We definitely don't need to make any big move or part with any of our players, except maybe Veal. Adding someone like PJ Brown gives us another big body without losing anyone. And if it doesn't work out? Oh well. I don't think PJ Brown is someone that will disrupt the team if he's not playing.

Despite the 2 straight losses, we really don't need to panic or make any irrational moves. Still have the best record in the league and lost to 2 very good teams in the closing minutes. Everyone goes through something like that. Look at Detroit, they got blown out 2 nights in a row to Orlando and Bucks. Even last night, they came back to make it close at the end, but the Bucks were killing them most of the night.
