C's interested in Barry, Magloire & Murray

Post#1 » by P2 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 1:21 pm

Boston Globe:

ESPN analyst and ex-NBA player Jon Barry, Brent's brother, believes his sibling will give the Celtics serious consideration.

"It would certainly be a team that piques his interest," Jon Barry said in a telephone interview. "They are certainly one of the teams to beat in the East and the NBA. He wants to win and he is going to feel out who gives him the best chance to win."

The Celtics are also expected to inquire about guard Flip Murray, waived by Detroit yesterday, and center Jamal Magloire, waived by New Jersey. Both will be free agents tomorrow if they clear waivers.

"We'll just evaluate who comes off waivers and see where they fit in with us," Ainge said. "But I don't feel we have to do anything. I like our team. At the same time, we've saved two roster spots for players that could help us this time of the year. We'll continue to evaluate those players."

Boston Herald:

NBA sources said last night that the Celtics are poised to make a move on Brent Barry if and when he clears waivers.

Barry, if healthy, would be a great addition.

Barry would be the only guy to actually "help" this team and make an impact. Magloire is just big insurance and Flip is well, Flip.

I don`t like Magloire at all. I loved him when he came out of college but I don`t know hat happened to him in the last few years. No heart, no skill...

the way i look at it is that the spurs think Kurt Thomas will be more helpfull in the playoffs then Brent Barry.

Magloire could serve as a viable body in the paint for the C's. I think Garnett et al could keep him in check if his ego starts to impact his play or mood on the court.

If he can put up his career averages on the team, should he sign, the C's will be that much more dangerous.

I find it interesting that Jamal Magloire and Brent Barry have the same agent, Arn Tellem.

Arn Tellem also represents Kendrick Perkins and Brian Scalabrine,
so I'm sure the channels of communication are well open between
player, agent, team, and some of the Celtics.

Magloire is more useful than Pollard at this point. Barry might be more valuable than Cassell at this point being able to play three possitions.

I wonder if Arn Tellem representing Kendrick Perkins might prevent him from bringing Jamal Magloire to the Celtics.

Just like I wonder if Bill Duffy representing Rajon Rondo might result in fellow client Chris Duhon being encouraged to sign elsewhere this summer.

I really like that lineup and also think that we need to sign Cassell and Magloire.

Seriously, Perk plays 24 minutes a night. Magloire could easily get 15 minutes a night if he wanted.

As much as I'd like Cassell to be bought out and signed by the C's, it's not done yet and might never get done. That said, Barry's easily almost as good of an option. He'd be solid as the backup point, and if you sub him in with Eddie House, House won't hurt you offensively or defensively anymore (House would guard the 1, Barry would by the offensive 1). Kind of the same situation with Tony Allen too.

Celtics should definitely pick up Magloire. He's great for limited minutes. Not to mention our backups are undersized. Now the hard decision is if the Celtics want to go after Barry or wait on the Cassell situation. Cassell would help us more than Barry but Barry is more guaranteed as in that Sam might not get bought out.

You will find out about the Cassell situation sooner than about Barry. Cassell has to be waived before or on March 1, which is exactly one week from now. And Barry said his injury would take another 10 days to heal, and I don't think he will have made his decision before he is recovered.

Chris Andersen might also be on the Celtics radar:

Chris Andersen of the Hornets is expected to be reinstated by the NBA after recently completing a two-year ban for substance abuse. A source close to the team said if he is waived, the Celtics might be interested in his services. Andersen, at 6 feet 10 inches, can play center and forward.

Magloire doesn't help us any, we're better off getting a d-league 7 footer. If he was any good at all, NJ would have kept him around. He's not a good defensive player anyways. Justin Williams is the guy that was waived we should be looking at. The Mavericks are going to pick him up if we don't.

this guy would be perfect for our team. we need a long athletic big. He would be very rusty though and it would take him some time to get up to speed.
