Sam Cassell Officially Bought Out (Updated Link pg 20)

Post#1 » by SuperDeluxe » Sat Feb 23, 2008 5:06 pm

Over the past few days, Cassell has not come out and flat-out said that's what he wants. But earlier this season, he said he'd be a good fit with the Boston Celtics, and despite his diplomacy, it is obvious that he'd like to be bought out.

Cassell is making $6.1 million this season and is in the final year of a two-year deal. The word in the Clippers' organization is that it's possible the organization will go ahead and buy him out. If it doesn't, it will have to deal with a veteran whose heart isn't in remaining with the team. Also, there hardly is any motivation to keep him during a season in which the team is just about mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Although the Clippers have been tight-lipped about its plans, there is a feeling that they will eventually buy him out.

Yes, and Heathmalc, the poster who reported that both sides have agreed on a buyout and that he heard it on radio, was nothing but a liar. Those statements were purely made up.

Well they need to do it before the 26th so he can spend his 48 hrs on the waiver wire and sign before the March 1st. I think it probably goes down on Monday

Actually, he just needs to be waived before the deadline of March 1st. I'm not sure what the actual signing deadline is for playoff eligibility, but it is usually around the end of March.

The signing date for Playoff eligibility is the day after the last day of the regular season (in short, the day before the Playoffs start).

And he doesn't need to be waived before March 1. He cannot be waived after March 1. This means that the last waiving date for Playoff eligibility is March 1, which is exactly one week from now.

Heathmalc needs to be warned or banned... he also said denver agreed to getting ron artest by including kleiza... he made it seem like he was an insider who said he got inside information that some deal between chicago and cleveland happened when there were rumors of a deal between them during trade deadline and the players involved were nothing close to the actual deal. He keeps getting shot down by everyone telling him to stop acting like he has inside information, but he's an attention whore.

If House doesn't play another minute, except in desperation end-of-game sharpshooter situations and the like, I'll be happy. I want better players than House on the roster, and I want them to stay healthy enough that he isn't needed.

He has been phenomenal for us pretty much the whole year. He has been struggling in the last few games but overall we have to be happy with him. Obviously he is not a PG but you need shooters like him on the team.

When/If we sign another PG he will lose some minutes and that is OK. You put House in the game give him a jumper or two and if he makes them you play him if he doesn`t you don`t...

Exactly. According to ESPN, he had a DNP-CD, whereas Kaman, who was injured, was out with a sore lower back. So it isn't the mysterious wrist injury he had against Utah that forced him to sit out the game. Next up for the Clips, Beantown!

Fair enough. House is streaky, and when he's on (great shooting, kind of adequate otherwise), he's a very nice player.

If he makes me eat my words, great. But I think we can do better.

He left the game with a sprained wrist against the Grizzlies.

Cassell may very well be bought out real soon, but the fact that's he's not playing while he's injured really means nothing.

Sounds like Sam has a case of "Jason Kidd migraine headache, except it's spread to his wrist."

And seriously, too many folks forget HOW MANY GAMES EDDIE HOUSE SINGLEHANDEDLY WON for this team. You can never have too many shooters on your bench. If someone else is off, you bring in your next hired gun.

Right now, the only viable 3 point shooters on the bench are Eddie House and James Posey (sorry Tony, you have the best percentage, but you don't shoot as much because you only shoot when your feet are set and squared up. I don't think that you would be leading if Ray, Paul, Eddie & James did the same. But give some lessons to Scal on squaring up with the feet set, it's Scal's biggest fault when shooting (that, and jumping off balance).
