If I was a Knicks fan I wouldn't even be able to watch the games anymore (or for the past three years for that matter). James Dolan is a weak person and a weak person should not be running the New York Knicks. Isiah Thomas is a self centered idiot with no common sense, much closer to a bad substitute teacher with no control, then an NBA coach. Obviously he's not on the level of OJ Simpson but at this point I think he's closer to being on that level, a bad person with lots of skill at a sport that has earned him underserving respect and admirability, then a respectable half decent coach. He deserves to lose all of the respect he gained as a great nba player. He's pathetic.
James Dolan is such a weak person that he's still afraid to fire Isiah Thomas who has been belittled by every fan of the New York Knicks. He might as well sell the team to Whoopi Goldberg and let "Eddie" run the team, because at this point you don't need any balls to fire Isiah Thomas you just need the tiniest bit of self respect or self esteem for that matter.
Well James Dolan you have managed to make yourself out to be the biggest super nerd in the world. You have spent millions and millions of dollars to keep your cool athletic buddy that you look up to around. You probably don't even mind it some days because "you know" someday you and your bud Isiah will be able to look back at it and laugh about the silly times when you two crazy kids were running the Knicks. That funny time when Isiah was out horsing around and hitting on the hot bitch from the front office. Yeah, it may have hurt the Knicks image a little but you had his back, there aint no way you'd fire your boy for that. Or that time Isiah and you spent a little money to bring in some great players who turned out to not play any defense.
2009 comes around and Isiah has "resigned". "haha that was funny. Geez you lost me a bit of money on a couple of those deals there Isiah haha but whatever right", Dolan says to Isiah in a reminiscent gaze at his idol while sipping on a beer. But what he doesn't realize is that the next day Isiah will have an interview with sportscenter in which in true Isiah fashion he's going to lay all of the blame for the bad deals he had made on Dolan.
lol I started writing about my hatred for the two of these guys imagining myself in the shoes of a knicks fan and this little story just came about. Anyway I love the Celts so hopefully Dolan and Isiah will be around for a long time, but that is what I assume Dolans thought process is and obviously in sensless Isiah Thomas fashion he is going to lay all of the blame on Dolan, whether its right after he "resigns" or 2 years later. I can just picture him now claiming that Dolan forced him to do all of the bad signings and trades.

I don't get what you guys are laughing at...
This is something I've been saying for a while now, the Knicks are setting themselves up for a big jump up the rankings.
Sure they have awful contracts now, but eventually those awful deals will become gigantic expiring contracts. Did you guys miss the Lakers getting Pau Gasol for an expiring...sure the C's had Al Jefferson, but a a guy with less talent like David Lee could be paired with an expiring and get someone a bit below KG.
The Knicks will have great draft picks and huge expirings...it's not that far fetched to think the Knicks could be big time players a couple of years down the road.

As per Hoopshype, they have only two sizable contracts expiring after next season (Marbury's $21.9M and Malik Rose's $7.6M). In the hands of a competent GM those are extremely valuable assets. Logic suggests that Isiah Thomas won't be the Knicks' GM this time next year, but... who knows?

The Knicks don't have any picks left for the upcoming draft. Assuming everything goes as you say (they turn Marbury's and Rose's contracts into good players), they'll finish the 2008/09 season way better than now, so their draft picks are not going to be that great.

I agree with Jimmy103's premiss that the Knicks have the potential to instill a 3-5 year plan that could make them potential contenders, BUT there are two huge problems with this. The first is that I have absolutely no confidence in the current management team to pull this off. They, led by dolan and isiah, have shown zero competance in running an organization. The second problem, which I don't see as an issue anymore, is the potential disillusionment of the fans. I think most of the fans that would lose interest during a rebuilding process have already lost interest.
My plan would go like this:
1.) Trade Marbury's and Rose's expiring contracts into contracts with one or two more years and as many draft picks as possible.
2.) Let Isiah do the one thing he does well, draft as much talent as possible.
3.) Trade the young talent, picks, and contracts aquired for Marbury and Rose, along with Q's contract and Jerome James's contract (all now expiring) for the best players they can get.
This should put them in contention for the 2010-2011 season or possibly the 2011-2012 season depending on who is available via trade.

Yes, this was Isiah and Dolans plan all along. Sign overrated players to enormous contracts for 5 years and then casually pull it all together in 2008-2009. They have been working hard for the past 5 years to sign as many bad contracts as possible and have the biggest budget in the league but smoothly be one of the worst teams in the league, so, get this, eventually those big contracts are going to you know expire, you following, we will have all of this extra money that we didn't have before and we can spend it on, um, good free agents this time. Good plan right?

Guys, I had the theory approx 2-3 years ago (using expiring contracts)... but I've came to the conclusion, that there never was something like a "plan" from Thomas or Dolan. They're really totally clueless (Dolan) or some kind of clueless and handcuffed by MSG (Thomas). Don't worry, the Knicks won't matter for another three years.

Everyone forgets why Isiah still has his job.
Dolan stupidly gave Zeke a 4 year extension before the end of last season.
The Knicks were proud that they achieved the 9th pick, thereby not giving Chicago too good a pick with the pick swap from the Eddy Curry trade.
Isiah pressured Dolan that he didn't want to be a lame duck coach with only one year to go, that the players wouldn't respect him.
Stupidly, right after the Knicks won a few games during an easy stretch, before the brutal finish to their season schedule, Dolan extended Zeke unnecessarily early.
Had Dolan simply let the team finish the season, it would have been apparent that Isiah deserved to go.
But stupid Dolan had given Isiah a few more years beyond the one remaining.

SuperDeluxe, this is basically how my post was intended to be interpretted:
I don't think the Knicks will be better NEXT year, I don't think they'll be better the year after that. So those will be 2 good 1st rounders, and Isiah does draft well. 2 stud plays, at least 2 big expirings in that time span...you do the math.
It took Danny Ainge 3 years to complete his rebuilding. He was chasing a championship for 2 years before he realized you need to clean house and start new. The thing he was in the position to do (and Isiah will as well) was to delve into the luxury tax to field a competitive team. Others teams are face with cutting payroll. So Isiah could turn expirings and unproven young potential into good veterans who can win NOW. ie Why it may take 4-5 seasons for the Raptors to gel into something special but the Celtics are instantly Title Contenders.
