Paul Pierce's All-Star Performances

I haven't seen anything on this so I figured what the keck start a topic.

Why does Pierce suck in All-Star games? He has made six appearances and is averaging less than 16 minutes, 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per All Star appearance. And it's not like his early appearance is bringing done his average. His first appearance was his best 23 minutes 19 pts 7 rebounds.

I know minutes are spread out and no one plays forty but I would expect a little more from Paul. Is it because he is playing behind Labron? Is it because his game is preticated on getting to the line and fouls are not called in the all-star games?

Just thought I'd throw it out there.

It was brought up in the all star game topic before the game, about how Ray Allen's much more likely to get an ASG MVP due to his style of play and it's the equal but opposite case for Paul. The ASG's just more relaxed. More free jumpers are taken, more dunks, etc. Ray can find his niche in the game just shooting threes, but I doubt Paul would want to spend the effort or risk getting hurt slashing and driving to the hoop, which is a large portion of his offensive play, for 10-25 minutes in a meaningless game against the rest of the league's elite athletes.

How in the world is averaging 10/3/2.4 in 16 minutes bad?

Apparently. Over 36 minutes that is 22.5/6.8/5.6.

Is this like a real concern? It's an All-Star game where no one tries to do anything but dunk and ****. Pierce isn't a highflying dunker.

his game imo, doesnt fit the all-star format

he isn't an open court player and doesnt play above the rim per say

and thats where alot of players get thier points in the all-star game

I don't understand what more do certain fans want from these All-Star selected players. You aren't going to see every one of them put up statistics that you would normally see in a regular season game. You've too many fellow stars who could dominate the ball as teammates and the head coach dictates your minutes. A lot of these players are apt to perform lackadaisical because they simply want to entertain the fans and enjoy being around their peers and friends or be in a non serious environment. I mean you'll likely see one to three stars shine from either side in this exhibition. Because someone has to elect to take over the game and others react off of his performance. I felt like Pierce and Ray Allen both played well in their limited minutes.

I just feel that it doesn't matter too much to me whether or not a particular star shines or if it's your own star who does as long as you can see that he'd enjoyed the experience and the time being in the game. A lot of worthy selections could never get that opportunity. I'm certain Pierce has appreciated every invite. I mean Paul didn't perform well in the three-point contest when he'd entered, but he probably still had fun. It's fun for some of these guys.

It's not his fault that he doesn't play a lot of minutes. He plays his game when he's in there and connects on his shots. He's not a guy who is going to alley-oop every possession.
