Humor me

Just testing a theory that those who want Antoine back don't go back far enough with the team to have a more satisfying binky.

Not necessarily about your actual age, but the level of fanaticism you displayed the last time the Celtics were a contender.

This may bring some clarity to my universe and make it so that I don't have to avoid RealGM until Antoine's head joins the rest of his body in retirement.

I am not old enough to remember the entire 86 team. But I know a bum when I see one and Walker is a BUM!

I was old enough to remember the team and did watch the games, I can't name them all by heart.

But I can remember Walker and I do remember losing. Who wants that again.

Here is a riddle for you - how is a guy able to shoot the Three ball almost as well or better than his free throws?

Didn't vote. Old enough to remember entire 86 roster, the opinion on signing Antoine boils down to what roll would he be promised, would agree to, and be restricted to, before I render a judgment. The second unit could use a veteran who rebounds and is "considered" a scoring threat moreso than Scalabrine. I've, in the past, argued that Scalabrine was a better option than Walker. But that was based on salary commitment and sense of entitlement. If he's been humbled enough and the organization is willing to strong-arm him, he'd be priced well enough and help the team in the role it likely would have designed for him.

When I think of Walker, I think of the 3 W's.

well I can name pretty much the entire 86 team but was only 1 year old in 86 but I do want Antoine back

I can name the team, saw it then, and have watched the series over and over again. I would love to have Antoine back. He is who he is and if I could choose between say a healthy Theo and Antoine I would go with Theo. But we certainly could use another guy who can do things Antoine can. Hell he even has championship experience now.

I don't know that this team has much of a role to offer him but the person and player would be a welcome addition.

Let me add I also saw '87 when McHale broke his foot and we ran out of bodies to throw at the Lakers.

I couldn't even remember the roster from 3 or 4 years ago, let alone all the way back to 86. Key players, sure, but not the whole roster. As for Walker, I'm indifferent. I don't think he's done, but I don't think it's realistic to our chances to give him more than 10 minutes per game max.

Fatoine can sweat it out in minnie for the year.

I was barely around in '86, but am a big enough fan to know pretty much the whole roster anyway (just pointing out that knowing the roster isnt necesarily a great indicator of age).

Anyway, bottom line...I am 23 years old, lived through all of Walker, liked him when he was here, but want no part of him now.

The people arguing for him are delusional in my opinion. People trying to say "we cant believe you dont want walker back in a limited role, blah blah blah, he was a fan favorite and played his heart out, blah blah" just doesnt do anything for me.

Nowadays I think of him as Scal with poor decision making. The problem is the people here saying he'd be good for rebounding or whatever, keep forgetting how much he really truly sucks. He could give us what Scal gives us, but people would expect more from him and be more disappointed.


See the similarities between the two;

-Scal sucks and Walker sucks
-Scal and Walker are both 4's that play on the perimeter
-Scal missess 3's all the time, Walker misses 3's all the time
-Neither can rebound well for their position

Now the differences;

-Scal is quiet and doesnt demand the ball. Walker likes to dominate the ball and is very vocal.
-Scal has consistently sucked for years, Walker used to be good, but has sucked for years now.
-We know what we have with Scal. But with Walker people would keep hoping that he'd miraculously get good again. He won't...


Its fine to have one guy on the team that just sucks at basketball (Scal) as long as this guy is a good-locker room presence, knows his limitations, and accepts his role.

Walker sucks, but is a loud mouth who thinks he's good and would demand that the ball be in his hands from time to time.

I can neither remember the whole roster or decide wether I'd want antone back or not....but I'm old enough.... (fifty eight).... thats for sure!

This is as weird a poll question as I have ever answered though!

Hey, a kindred spirit!

-Scal has consistently sucked for years, Walker used to be good, but has sucked for years now.

Walker used to be statistically productive, he was never "good."

He's been a low-percentage gunner for his entire career and the only season in his career in which he WASN'T noticeably under the league average in TS% was the 05-06 season he spent in Miami... and even then, he was a little under average. He's pretty been consistent about being a high-turnover guy and his career average is only so low because of the time he's spent away from Boston.

He's always been a horrendous defender, he's always thought too highly of himself as a playmaker and a scorer... He's been a decent rebounder, nothing spectacular (and he declined noticeably on the offensive glass as his career progressed but most notably after his first two seasons).

Antoine Walker has always been bad, he just couches his horrible play in gaudy averages and flashes of brilliance that show his technical skill set is far advanced over his mental approach to the game. This has been true every game of his career.

I am old enough to remember M.L. Carr cheering and screaming from the bench that kept the Celtics going against the powerful Lakers. I would like to get Walker back as our cheerleader.

I've have been following the Celtics only since 1991, so I cannot list the 1986 roster. I am, however, older than most around here, and will get even older overnight if Antoine Walker gets signed by the team.

Well, get ready for years of disappointment. "Let's get Toine" threads will pop up every other month around here, including the offseason. Walker is now 31 and already a shell of his old self. Ten years down the road he will be long gone, 46 more pounds overweight, the fat bursting at the seams, and people on this board will be still asking for his return
