Delonte looked like he had money on the game.

When I was watching the end of the game last night, it just seemed a little odd how much Delonte was trying to score. Granted, he's always been a guy to play hard throughout, but this just seemed odd because the game was over, and he was doing everything he could to keep putting points on the board. And at the end, when he got that three pointer off the goal tend (btw, did anyone else notice how blatently he stepped over the line??), he was pleading with officials to make sure the basket counted. Why would he do that??

Now I definitely don't think that Delonte would bet on a game. Maybe some friendly side bets with friends or whatever. But the only other explanation is that he just cares that much about stats, which was pretty off-putting to me. Delonte always struck me as the type of guy that didn't care about stats. He just wanted to win. But if you're pleading for a meaningless shot to be counted at the buzzer, you obviously have different priorities.

I don't think he had money on the game. It's called playing for a contract.
He has ALWAYS been a stud at scoring baskets when they don't really count. He is the best stat padder I have ever seen bar none. He had a ton of practice on our lousy teams when he was the #1 point driving them into the ground..

I mean you look at the box score and you think - damn D. West was awesome. But if you watch the game for most of it he was pretty much giving them nothing out there..

It's good you picked up on this but most of his fans won't. They will just gloat about his great peformance. But when Lebron needed help most of the time he was nowhere to be found.. He hit ONE three at a semi-useful time.

I feel bad for Lebron. He is going to get very frustrated pretty soon.

Not that you care one bit, Pete, but you have just been inducted to my ignore list (I hope you don't mind the company there). Even if every single word you typed about Delonte West was a fair assessment, your fixation with him is insufferable. I'll miss your insight on all other matters. Good bye.

That's pretty lame. Pete's one of the better posters here. Yeah he craps on Delonte but so what? Just skip that particular post.

LOL. I agree with Pete that he is just playing for a contract. I thought the same thing last night..... that West was scoring a bunch of garbage points, playing for a contract. I can't blame him though. Who wouldn't try to score garbage points in a contract year to pad their stats? The guy is trying to get paid and I can't blame him for that.

Maybe he should go to "People with an Obnoxious Need to Prove They Were Right Anonymous." Him and GWB can drink bad coffee and eat stale doughnuts while hearing about the downfall of William Jennings Bryan.

I love delonte but you knew he was going to shoot that 3 at the end even though it was a meaningless game... and Rondo was stupid enough to goal tend it. I thought both of those plays were immature. One thing about D west is tjat he keeps coming no matter what. Iwould love to get him back next year. he's not a great player and he gets hurt a lot but I love his attitude and he fits in well with the team we have. as for wally he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is.

West did look pretty weak last night. Hughes + Gooden >>>>>Wally, West and Wallace vs the Celtics. West doesn't look like starter material on a good team to me.

A good man off the bench, perhaps.

Big frickin deal if he padded the stats, I'd do it, in fact I do it.

What was so stupid about the play from Rondo?? It was a meaningless shot. Rondo obviously didn't care if they won by 8 or by 5. He knew they won. And that was what mattered. If he had done it in a 3 point game, yes, that would've been stupid. But I think that was just his way of having a little fun, or possibly letting Delonte know that his shot meant nothing.

That's why I said before that I hated the trade for the Cavs and loved the trade for the Celtics. People said I only said that because I am a West hater, but do people actually believe West is an upgrade over Hughes? Huge downgrade imo. Hughes hasn't played that great, but he was coming off an injury and I bet he would have been much better come playoff time, which is when the Cavs will miss him, especially his perimeter defense. And they god rid of the Celtics killer Gooden too! Great trade from the Celtics perspective, imo.

I found it very funny that he was so intense about getting that basket to count as well, and thought (half joking, half serious) "did he have money on the game or something"?

Anyone know what the spread was?

I think it was 7. If so, there are some people that aren't too happy with Rondo. 8)

You need professional help man. Your hatred for Delonte is out of control.

Delonte definitely wanted to raise his scoring average a bit in the end...

As far as Pete goes...You know he won`t miss a chance to put down Delonte. But I am more amazed how he manages to do that in all the other threads that have nothing to do with West...this thread just called for it to happen!

+1. Pete is the pure definition of a thread highjacker when it comes to anything Delonte. You would think Delonte inpregnated his sister or something.

That's an ugly thought (and D West was my binky for a couple of years)

Pretty hard to let go of ol' Marcus for Pete, that's all.

I still like D's game better, but that doesn't mean all that much now, does it.

I wouldn't be surprised. Last year, when the C's were in full tank mode, I wagered against them playing the Jazz. Somehow the C's were actually lined up to cover on this game with time running out. Total garbage time, but Utah needed one basket to cover. Harpring steals the ball and with literally the last few seconds ticking away gets an easy breakaway and goes in for the layup which would have made my bet. Out of nowhere, friggin Delonte comes in and swats the shot from behind. I was steamed to say the least (probably shouldn't have been betting against the C's anyways). There were only three explanations for it:

1. Delonte had money on the game.
2. Delonte was trying to pad his block stats.
3. Delonte just tries too hard.

I figure it was probably #3, but after watching his late-game 'heroics' last night, I gotta wonder.

I thought the spread was 9 so it didn't matter that West made the last second three.

spread was 8, seems to have some merit.

Also it could be a rondo vs. delonte thing? they did compete for the pg spot last year. Could it be that the two were trying to send messages at one another? especially rondo's goal tend
