what's up with garnett's rebounding numbers? he's been averaging less than 10 REBOUNDS. he was the best rebounder last year.

06-07 Wolves - .461 FG%
KG 12.8 RPG
Blount 6.2
C. Smith 5.1
R. Davis 3.9
Foye 2.7

07-08 Celts - .475 FG%
KG 9.7
Perk 5.6
Pierce 5.4
Rondo 4.4
Posey 4.4
R. Allen 4.0

He simply had more guys that can rebound their positions well and shoot a better FG % arounf him - thus, fewer rpg.

I think it has a lot to do with the swarming defense the Celtics are playing. KG is nimble enough to disrupt the opponent's offense closer to the perimeter and the Celts are using him that way so he is away from the hoop on defense a lot.

This seems to effect Boston's rebounding in other ways as well.

For example the Celtics are 23rd in the league in rebounding but 7th in differential between them and their opponents so there are less overall rebounds in the numerical calculations to begin with.

His numbers also reflect that he is playing on a pretty deep well-balanced team and thus his scoring and minutes per game are also down.

I think it is also a product of the "share-the-wealth" outlook that successful Celtic teams have always had.

There are reasons why a 16 championship franchise is under-represented in numerous individual statistical categories and IMO KG is probably just a recent example.

I agree with Bighands. It has more to do with the celts D than anything. The one complaint I do have is that he could be getting more offensive rebounds. he should be getting about 3 to4 offensive rebounds a game. But once again the way the defense is DOC doesn't want his players hanging around for the offensive rebounds. he wants them to get right back on D.

So long and short of it is Doc is to blame.

I think it's all by design...perhaps KG hasn't fully recovered from his abdominal strain and they are trying to keep him from reinjuring himself?... This is not a knock on him but I think he's been playing soft since his return.

Heinson was upset in the 4th quarter last night... He sees the same thing I do.... This team plays better with two bigs in the game!....when KG was out their alone, he was unable to hold the fort underneath.... as soon as Perk reentered the game with about three minutes to go, that all changed....

Bottom line here is that Doc needs to see that and react sooner than he has been... He made that Bobcats game alot closer in the 4th quarter by not substitutuing sooner....Smallball dosen't always get it done in crunchtime!....

kg has also been playing less minutes for us than for the Twolves, because we have a reason to save whatever energy of his we can (i.e. playoffs)

or take 10 seconds and look at the espn nba stats.

kg is averaging 34mpg, not 39.

add to that the little things like how this is the first time his teamates r good rebounders too, and bam.

KG still can rebound the ball and lead the league in rebounding. He had high rebounding games to begin the season. However he stopped after that. The reason being that KG realized his team is fully capable of rebounding. So he wouldn't go after rebound like he used to in Minny. KG has basically been half assing all his rebounding. Not that it's a bad thing but when the playoffs come I expect KG to get back up to 12-13 RPG.

When you have better teammates around you your stats are going to go down. The only numbers that matter are 45-12. :D

KG still gets the big rebounds. Darth nailed it, if you adjust for mins then he is at 11 rpg compared to 12.8 last year. then account for the fact that he's not playing with Blount, where he probably got 2 extra rpg just from the balls that bounced off of Blonut's superball-rubber hands. Basically, everyone on the C's starting unit are plus rebounders for their position, so it makes sense that KG isn't going to get as many.
