We often read about the superiority of the Western Conference vs. the Eastern Conference because of the difference in winning % from 2000 thru 2007. Even this year, it still favors the West.

However, and this is significant, if you look at the 4 Eastern Teams with winning records against the West, they are

18-3 Boston
15-8 Detroit
16-12 Cleveland
13-12 Orlando

Just behind the top 4:

9-11 Toronto
10-13 Washington
11-14 Philadelphia
11-14 Atlanta
10-14 Indiana

So, although the Eastern conference has 6 doormat teams, there are 4 Eastern teams that seem to be better than the much touted West.

So, where are all the Media analysts on this subject?

Asleep at the keyboard??

On the other hand, the West's best against the East are:

22-4 Phoenix (but only 17-16 against Western Conference Teams)
18-4 San Antonio
18-7 Houston
16-7 Utah
18-9 Lakers
11-5 New Orleans
16-9 Golden State
16-9 Denver
15-12 Sacramento
13-11 Dallas

followed by

12-13 Portland

and the four doormats of the West (Clippers, Seattle, Memphis and Minnesota).

How does that compare to a similar lineup of West teams?

Or how are the winning teams in each conference against the other conference?

Or how are the winning teams in each conference against each other?

And by the way, I haven't noticed many members of the media automatically assuming the best teams in the East weren't on a par with those of the West. Not when the Celts have the best record in the league and that gaudy record against the West.

There's 4 or 5 elite teams, title contenders, imo:

Boston
Detroit
Phoenix
LA
San Antonio

Then there's the next group:

Houston
NO
Dallas
Cleveland
Denver
Orlando
Utah
GS

So the East only has 4 in the top 13, but 2 in the top 5.

Also, the West has more parity at the top, but they are REALLY bad at the bottom

The rest of the East (after the above) is all pretty much the same, parity of the mediocre. And as such, an easier rode to the finals (and then homecourt) which is why imo the East has the advantage in regards to the chip -- despite being the conference with less overall talent.

I don't understand what you are comparing? You only give the Suns record against the West?

That is what will tell you something. Add to that take away the turds and only use over .500 teams and I think that will show you a more accurate indicator. I mean DET and BOS obviously compare well to the West, especially because of their defense, the real question is how does CLE look?
