Semi-OT - Awards

Post#1 » by DynastyInTheMaking » Mon Mar 3, 2008 7:09 pm

Do you like the way that MLB gives out awards (separate to the NL and AL) or the way that the NFL and NBA gives out awards (one to the entire league)?

Looking into it you see that since MJ retired only one Eastern player has won the MVP award (AI in 2001). Other than Jordan's 4 in the 90s you have to go back to Bird in the mid 80s to find another EC player winning the award. So 5 EC players have won it in the last 21 years. While the West has been deeper the past decade or so, it hasn't always been that way. Many great players who played in the East never won an award. Many great seasons in the East have gone unrecognized.

We obviously wouldn't be where we are had we not traded for KG, so the season changing player on the team with the best record will certainly get MVP votes, despite his not-too-overly impressive stats compared to other candidates. It will likely come down to Bryant, James or Paul. Last night on ESPN everyone agreed it's Kobe as of now, and someone, I forget who, went as far as to say Ginobli is more of a candidate than KG.

Wile I'm sure LBJ will get his awards by the end of his career, he is likely not winning it this year. He, KG, Howard, Bosh and even someone like Jamison (Double Double on a playoff team even after their best player went down) will be left out in the dark again when it comes to MVP recognition.
I despise fans that cheer on a team from up north or one that resembles a dinosaur. oh wait...

That's a good question since they have the monthly awards and players of the week for either conference.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.
