If the Celtics play just .500 ball for the rest of the season (12-11), the Pistons would need to go 17-4 to overtake the Celts.

So what is the magic number for home court advantage?

I believe Home court is given to the team that won the most games against each other in the regular season, if there happens to be a tie then it goes to the team with the best record.

Whoever has the best record in the NBA gets home court throughout the entire playoffs.

It will be awesome to have home court, Im starting to get pumped over the playoffs, cause unlike in the early part of this decade, the Celts have a legit shot at winning it all and are expected to do well, if they make it to the championship, the finals will be amazing, the crowds in both courts will be out of this world, esspecially if it's the Lakers.

I like Doc's comments on the matter too, that this isn't what they want. They want more. This would have been a parade last year.

I also like that if the Pistons and Celtics are tied by the end of season in wins, the Celtics would still have home-court advantage. This win meant something, regardless of what anyone tries to sell you.

Good. Getting X number of regular season wins shouldn't be the focus. The focus was clinching a berth, now they need to rest up and cruise into the playoffs and play 100000% basketball and win a championship.

Lemme see.... some quick math.

Detroit's best possible record this season is 65-17.

We only need to tie them to get home-court, since we won our head-to-head series. 18 wins would do that.

18 may not be strictly our "magic number" for homecourt throughout. Detroit could lose 18 games and we could still miss out if we suck and a different team gets a better record. But 18 IS our magic number for guaranteeing a better record than Detroit.

Trust me, we'll need to play better than 12-11 to beat out the Pistons. Look at their remaining schedule. They could run the table. The only challenging games I see are San Antonio, New Orleans, and Cleveland (all in Detroit) and one tough away game in Cleveland. All very winnable.

You think the Pistons will end the season on a 21 game winning streak against the likes of the Spurs, Hornets, and Cavs? They also play Toronto, Denver, Phoenix, and the Cavs a third time

Whatever, no sense in fighting over semantics. The point is that Celtics have to play worse than they've played all year by a huge margin and the Pistons have to play better than they've played all season.

Pistons and Celtics both have about 5-7 more tough-ish opponents.

^ Nah, I don't think they will end on a 21-game winning streak. But I do think they could finish with only 2 or 3 more losses.

Fact is, their most difficult remaining games are home whereas ours are away. And they're a darn good team at home.

I do think we'll win the 1 seed. But we have a much tougher schedule remaining, including 4 away games in a row against Western conference powers.

Um.. do you live in Mars? What the hell are you talking about? Then a team with a below .500 record who won the season series against the top team gets the home court?
