PP all defensive team?

Does anyone think that Paul pierce may end up on the alldefensive team this year? Be it the 1rst, 2nd or 3rd all defensive team? I think he deserves consideration because watching him play defense this year has been a joy imo. CAse in point, last night on Rudy Gay.. He was attacking him hard, same with Tayshhun Prince the other day, and even Loul Deng who usually gives PP fits...Any thoughts?

Also does anyone have the videeo of PP and Stepen A Smith a few yrs back when PP was on his show? It was during the summer when there were all those Allen Iverson rumors stated flying.. I remember Stephen AA asking him who he wishes he could play with and I remember PP saying "Kg would be nice." Does anyone know where I can find it?

i think pierce's D has been great, and im one of the few who seem to remember that he played great d his first few years before he became the first three scoring options combined, so im not surprised.

that being said, those teams are usually a mix of the same guys, and i would sort of be surprised if he got that recognition

I really think that Pierce has no chance.

First off, there are only two all-defense teams. All-nba is the only one that has a third.

I wouldn't rule out Paul being on there. There aren't as many random guys as you would think. Kobe has been on there several times. You also have to remember that most of the time, it goes to players on the best defensive teams. I think we could potentially have three guys. I think KG will definitely be on there, Paul a maybe, and an outside shot for Rondo.

I tend to agree but it would definitely seem to make a lot of sense for the team with the best defensive numbers to have at least two players on the all-defensive team. Pierce is arguably the Celtics second best defender after Garnett.... plus I don't see any better candidates at SF because the word is that Bowen is having a down year on that end, Artest has been injured and plays on a real subpar team (and he's crazy), Deng is the same as Artest (excepting the crazy part). I just don't see a better candidate at his position for all defensive team.

I think Pierce will get the nod this year. The C's are the best defensive team in the league and KG is not defending every position. Plus, other coaches are acknowledging Pierce's commitment to defense this year, so it is not going unnoticed.

maybe since some of the usual guys are down, thats a good point. however my "pierce is underrated" feeling is dominating my thought here and i feel like the NBA would give it to tayshaun or name geral wallace or something and PP gets left out...but gets his shot at a ring and maybe last laugh

like right now im looking at the all nba teams, how pierce only made it twice even just the 3rd team, and how i dont see what arenas, redd or artest did better the next few years while PP played on inferior teams at a comparable or better level

He has no chance. Yes, he has been playing good defense this season but nowhere near the level for all-defense teams considerations. He is not even a top 3 defender on the celtics. KG, Perk, Posey...

I think the picks are made by people who favor actual defense. Rondo gambles too much and gets half of his steals after the man has gone by him and that would kill his chances. If he got his steals by actually staying in front of his man and taken the ball it be better chance.

Does anyone know who picks these defensive teams because I've always felt they've done a good job of picking actual defenders and not just gamblers?

i've thought all season that he should get at LEAST second team honors. usually the first team is all the same gus, and you almost have to earn your place on the second team for a few seasons before going first team. i have no doubt first team will be the usual suspects, we're never gonna get around that, but he's earned at least a second team honors this year. he's just been absolutely incredible.

The sad thing is only KG will be on any of the all defensive teams but you could argue that 4 of our five starters deserve all defense recognition

i think it's all reputation unfortunatley and not actually how good they played that year

but yes, Paul Pierce has been an incredible defender this season, and deserves some recognition, whether he receives it or not

Paul has always been a decent defender - and talked about how great he would be if he had someone like J'Oneal or KG to get his back. He was right but he won't get the honor.

Since this award is given by coaches and not fans I think he has a decent chance. I remember a handful of coaches talking about PP's great defense this year.

As was mentioned, the Celts are the league's best defensive team. In 05 when the Pistons were the league's best defense they had 3 players chosen - Ben Wallace, Billups and Prince. I'd say that gives Paul a decent chance -- KG, first team, PP 2nd team. Why not? I wouldn't be shocked either way.
