Could we have the perfect team next year?

Think about it....we will have the knowledge of who and who cant play in this current system (Tony Allen, Scals, Pollard, Pruitt, PJ?, Cassell?) We have a desirable place for veterans seeking a championship. We play in the weakest division in the weakest conferance. We have a "players coach". We have a great city. We will have both exceptions I believe, and 1 first round draft pick (likely to be traded along with 2nd round pick). Danny Ainge can mold a perfect team. He can get a quality backup center, and a quality back up point unless Sam plays another year. Pollard will be gone, Tony Allen is probably gone as is Eddie House. James Posey could opt out and deserves to do so. Our starting 5 are locked up, we get 1 more year of Powe and Baby. So he can hand pick his free agents and/or draft picks. Some of this years free agents.. Ricky Davis (Heat), Monta Ellis* (Warriors), Nenad Krstic* (Nets), Jose Calderon* (Raptors), Josh Childress* (Hawks), Robert Swift* (Sonics), Matt Barnes (Warriors), Jason Williams (Heat), Tony Allen* (Celtics), Mickael Pietrus (Warriors), Sam Cassell (Celtics), Bonzi Wells (New Orleans), DeSagana Diop (Mavs). The other big names free agents wont come here for the MLE but there are some names on that list.

Diop as backup C if Brown doesn't re-sign. But I really hope we can get Bonzi.

Fools rush in.
Danny Ainge will not sign Bonzi.
Personalities are either acceptable or unacceptable in Danny & Doc's system.
Bonzi would be better suited for Larry Bird's cast of misfits in Indiana. Heck, they might even have Ron Artest conduct a class on inciting fan riots.
If you've paid any attention to Bonzi's history with teams, and we are talking issues not on a stats page, you would know why he doesn't fit in with the current team's design.

A big question regarding our roster for 08/09 is: do we really need more rookies?
I think Ainge will draft int. prospects or trade the picks.
Free Agents:
I think Posey will sign another deal, as I think we should have early bird rights on him. He could get a 3 year deal for 12,5 million dollar (starting at 3.85 mil) and we wouldn't have to touch the MLE for him.
We have full bird rights on Tony Allen and will match anything close to "Perk's money"
Cassell could ge the bi-annual, as I think he deserves more than the minimum.
MLE to Diop if possible.
Eddie House will get a better deal than we can/should offer from another team and won't resign with us.

I'd like to keep the team as it is and bring in Diop to replace Pollard.

This is a discussion to be taken up after the season ends, not merely because we have other fish to fry right now, but because what happens in the next three months will determine the fate of several players and the strategic course.
That being said, I think Danny would be wise to use both draft picks and keep the players, barring trade possibilities that might arise. Try to use the draft to get one good legit young prospect in the off-season, thinking down the road. We do not need the rookies to come in to contrbute in their first season. Use the free agent slots for veterans to help win now, for the most part, to the extent we need to do so. Diop would be a candidate.
At the same time, I would not mind taking a flyer on Patrick O'Bryant. He has intriguing tools and might respond well to playing every day in practice against KG, Perk, Big Baby and Powe.

No big changes needed, just a change of bigs.
I'd be looking at scenarios to get Monte Ellis even though it's extremely unlikely. Still sour that GS kept that second round pick owed to the Celtics. I'm sure Danny would have grabbed him. Of course, with hindsight we'd be picking him in the first instead of Gerald.

No Bird rights on Posey, you have to be two years under contract. He takes a big risk opting out, expecially when an early Bird is available the next season. He got twice as much money as Grant Hill got from Boston, if he wants to go play in CHA or SAC then maybe he can get a better deal than 3.6 mil but that is a lot of money for a back up SF.
With Tony I think money is the thing if they could get him for a deal in the Posey range he just fits so many different needs for them I think he will be back.
If Cassell works out he would make sense for one more year.
The one big thing they need to address is a back up center. I think they can spot Big Baby there but they need another legit guy. It's early but PJ doesn't look like he has all that much left. So with the MLE the draft pick(s) and some of this teams spare parts hopefully that can be addressed.

Thanks for clarification. I thought there'll be bird rights, if a player signed a two-year-contract even though he chooses to opt out.

Ellis might be too good of a player to get. He's going to want to start for a team. Golden State would probably let Pietrus and Barnes go before him.

I'd be happy with this roster below
Perkins/Diop/Baby
KG/P.J.Brown/Powe
Pierce/Posey/Scala
R.Allen/T.Allen/House
Rondo/Cassell/Pruitt

Diop and Ricky Davis would be great additions, IMO.

IMO, bringing Davis back would be subtraction by addition.

pollard is gone. I'd keep Posey and House if we can afford them and also Sam and PJ if they want to come back. I'd trade Scal or use him to move up in the draft. Pruitt is a keeper IMO so I'd look for a way to work him into the lineup. That might mean saying goodbye to tony. tony has value in this league but after 4 years he still makes way too many mistakes. If there were a way to get delonte back I'd jump on that. I'd like to see us take a big man in the draft but if no one is there I'd settle for a shooter or a long defender who can block shots

by Scal for 3
I would also like to replace Pollard with Diop. Diop is a player I always liked, and would be great to see him in a C's uniform. If Posey opts out (and I hope that he doesn't), I would like to see the C's replace him with Pietrus. Monta Ellis would be good too, but as people have said, he's too good to be a reserve. Though maybe he'll want to win and play for the C's. Unlikely, but one can hope.
