Rondo's draft trade value

Not looking to trade the kid, just curious where you think his draft value would be.
Ahead or behind Beasley/Rose
What about Eric Gordon or OJ Mayo?

If you're comparing them as to his value when he was in college, he'd still be at the late 1st early 2nd round area. Rondo was drafted during a relatively weak draft class, and this is not a weak draft class.

He's probably better than Mayo and Gordon, but I don't think too highly about either of them, especially Gordon.

He would not fetch a top 5 pick and probably not a top 10 pick, anywhere in the 8-16 range would be concievable to me, most likly 10-14

Yeah.
The only players who are definitely going to be better than Rondo are Beasley, Gordon, Rose and Bayless. Add in that you can only control Rondo's salary for 3 more years and a first round pick for 5 and you can throw in at least 4-5 more players who you'd rather have. Lopez, Mayo, Hibbert, Love for me. So I'd give up a 9th pick for Rondo I guess.
Eric Gordon is going to be so amazing.

Rondo is situational, he can do a lot of things other guys can't do but at the same time he doesn't do some of the things most teams would want their pg to do.
In a lot of ways he is throwback pg, back to when people could shoot. In todays game it is essentially a lead guard game and in that sense Rondo is an aquired taste, if you have two all star wings and great passing big man then Rondo is great. On the other hand this is star driven league and if your team is lacking at the star talent, likely if you are picking in the lottery then you are probably looking for a guy who score 20 a game and get to the line as well get 6 or 7 assists and that isn't Rondo's game.
I don't want to diminish Rondo's play by any means I think he is perfect for this team. But a lot of that is because of his own self awareness and understanding of his role. For example if Andre Miller would have had that his career would have turned out differently.
You win games with guys who do the little things like Rondo and Perk, but it doesn't necessarily increase their value in a draft setting because you need the 20ppg all stars first before you can worry about complementing them.

He's a phenomenal scorer. The very best at the college level and he's just a freshman. So quick, so strong, great outside stroke.

Yup, I think his game is much like D-Wade's so he'll transition well to the NBA. That and he's a much better shooter than D-Wade and stronger to boot. I say he has super start written all over him.

...I think you're drastically undervaluing Rondo's ability to score the ball...just because he's not ASKED to score doesn't mean he can't..
Rondo could average 18-20ppg right now if he and Al Jefferson were the one's leading this team right now, and he'd do it on very effecient shooting id imagine as he'd penetrate at will and has all sorts of floaters to work with...
...his shooting this year now leads me to believe he'll be able to hit a 15 foot pull-up no problem...the kid is a lead guard, will be a better scorer than Jason Kidd, who was a "lead guard" so i'm not feeling the "acquired taste" label...
..as for Gordon...I think he'll be a fantastic 2-guard despite his size, but he doesn't see the court like D Wade...he's young, but I don't see that passing eye in Gordon...he'll be a beast offensively though...as soon as his jump shot becomes automatic-right now its comes and goes...

Wow. Unless you think 90% of the league could score 20 a game if given the chance (which, after watching Antoine Walker for years is certainly believable), that statement seems pretty ridiculous to me. I like Rondo's game, but what makes you think he could score 18-20 efficiently when he's scoring 10 inefficiently (51 TS%, not terrible, but below average). I just don't see any way to logically argue that?

Eric Gordon looks like an absolute bust to me. A little undersized for the 2, doesn't have the playmaking skills for the 1, not that pure a shooter. Dajuan Wagner without the colitis. I don't see much Dwyane Wade in him at all - Wade's passing ability and all around game made him look like a sure fire All Star, probable Hall of Famer while at Marquette.
But I went to Purdue, I'm biased against IU.

I am not high on Gordon, either. I hope he goes high in the draft just so a good player will be available when the Celtics are picking.
To me, Dajuan Wagner is a pretty good comp in a lot of ways. More scorer than shooter but a thing that sticks out for me is that other than on the ball numbers, Gordon ranks way below in virtually every category, even for a PG prospect.
Gordon will be able to score and that will keep him in the league but defensively there is no activity. He doesn't rebound the ball. I smell bust (relative to an assumed high draft position.) Mayo is in a similar boat, imo, though not to the extreme as Gordon. They will be both be greatly overvalued coming into the draft which is a good thing for the Celtics in the long run.

I disagree that Rondo's draft class is necessarily weak.
I knew that Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay were sure things, why they got drafted 6 and 8 is someone else's folly.
Players in Rondo's draft class clearly better:
1. #6 pick Brandon Roy
2. #8 pick Rudy Gay
3. #2 pick LaMarcus Aldridge
4. #14 Ronnie Brewer
Players from his draft class whose ability is comparable
5. #47 Paul Milsap
6. #26 Jordan Farmer
7. #16 Rodney Carney
Player's almost as good as Rajon Rondo
8. #36 Craig Smith
9. #22 Marcus Williams
So, it would seem to this puppy, that Rajon Rondo is tied with Jordan Farmer for 6th best player in his draft class, definately 7th.
Remember not to just focus on offense, but the other 50% of basketball, Individual and Team defense.
So, even if the class is a bit light, I'd still say that Rajon is worth a #7 pick, and within the next two years, we may move him up to #4.

point guards rarely work out the way you want, and none in this draft class are of deron williams-chris paul caliber to me, or near it. mayo is talented but is a combo and that might be a bad thing at this point. gordon has been well pegged in this thread as far as PG potential, and im wishy washy on rose, hes got skill but im waiting to see the hype fulfilled

I too am surprised by Bill's words. If I recall correctly, you were pretty down on his offensive ability early on.

Sounds about right. On the same level as guys like Augustin, Collison, and Lawson. He's been solid, but nothing special this year. He's been put in a very good situation playing alongside three veteran All-Stars.

couldnt disagree more. augustin (i like) is a shooter first, but hell be able to play nba point. hes not as good as texas predecessor tj ford (and not close to pre injury ford) collison im not as high on him as i was, love might be the best playmaker on ucla, and lawson (read the sig, tar heel blue) has been inconsistent, he has the talent to be better than ray felton but not always the head, and rondo to me is clearly better than felton.
plus, rondo is an NBA player and these guys are not. rondo would be in the paul/williams class if he was in the draft right now, maybe without the same high upside, but were talking ridiculous defensive skills on rajon
